Advantages: Looks, feels and just as good
Disadvantages: Does not have safety feature
I previously wrote a review on how much i worship my GHD's - i love them and bought them after having several experiences of pinching my friends and sisters and that was it i was hooked and knew i had to buy a pair of my very own.
However i have since found that i was robbed...there fake!!
I just cannot believe it and am very very gutted!! Worst of all i've lost my money and now will need to buy another real pair.
So for all those GHD worshipers out there i just wanted to give you a little heads up on how to identify those bad boys...
1.) The Hologram
All real GHD's have 2 holographic stickers - one of the cord label and one on the straightner itself.
The fake ones have the same - however the serial numbers on the label and the straighner do not match.
2.) The Booklets
The books that come with the fake GHD's have typographic errors on nearly every page.
3.) Chipping Device
Real GHD's have 1 chip underneath the straightnering plates - fakes have 2.
4.) The Safety Feature
On real GHD's after around half an hour, the red lights turns orange and beeps - this is to alert you that the straightners are too hot and need to be turned off.
Fake ones do not have this feature. However some of the conterfiet ones do so this is not always easy to identify from that.
5.) and lasty...If you try to register them on the GHD website after you have filled in all the information such as serial number and personal details, upon completion it tells you that there is a problem with registering.
So i called the customer services who then advised that the GHD's that i have are sadly conterfeit.
They were very nice and gave me several options one of which was to return to there warehouse - the 2nd was if purchased in a salon, to return these to them and get a refund and the same thing if purchased from another seller.
However i didnt purchase either way and was very naive to trust someone who got hold of mine for me just because i saved around £40 of the original retail selling price.
I must admit though, i was fooled as whoever made these did a really really good job.
So ladies it pays to purchase the real deal and urge you to buy from a trusted GHD retailer such as a salon, amazon, HQHairoutlet and not forgetting GHD!!
Summary: You really do get what you pay for!
