These are worth the money!! Ive had loads of straightners in the past- including imitation GHDs and other brands but I can honestly say none compare- others have caught and ripped my hair, take ages to heat up with little results.
GHDs heat up in less than a minute, straighten effectively and even switch themselves off if you accidently leave them plugged in and switched on. I can honestlly say I wint be going back to any other brand, You can even get fab results by using them as curlers ( you pull the hair as if you were curling ribbons!) the results are amazing.
Ive also taken mine abroad and used them as I think there is a dual voltage feature!
The only obvious draw back of these is the cost- but this is one instance where you get what you pay for! Save up and you wont look back!

Summary: get them - you wont look back!
