Advantages: They straighten with ease!

Disadvantages: The price!

I used to be such a tomboy, proper ugly too.. basin haircut didn't really help matters but one day something clicked in my head, that I was actually a girl lol! That day came and I wanted everything girly, including straighteners to my hairs dismay!

I had so many pairs of crappy straighteners, they would yank, snap and completely ruin my locks - after I grew out the basin cut by the way. Sometimes it is good to save money and pay less but in other cases I really do believe the saying that 'You get what you pay for'. My hairdressing buddies introduced me to GHD's, sleek looking black straighteners. They didn't look anything special but all my friends hair was dead straight as if ironed, with an actual iron - I was overly impressed and saved up like a mad woman to buy my very own.

GHD's tend to be sold in hairdressing salons, they are often out of stock due to populairty and need to be ordered in, or you can buy them on the official GHD website, I would refrain from buying them elsewhere. The genuine GHD's come with a guarantee etc and others are unfortunately geuninely fake! They are a very expensive straightener costing in excess of £100, unless of course they are on offer for £97 like I paid the other week and that is just for the basic black pair. You can however purchase them in other styles and colours as well as size.

The basic black pair do exactly what you'd expect of straighteners. Ironing out your locks to straighten them or now to even curl them. Have you ever heard anything like it in your life? 'I'm just going to curl my hair with my STRAIGHTENERS!'.. Well anywhoo the basic black GHD's have changed their shape slightly now more rounded at the edges to ensure stylish curling affects as well sleek straightening.

When you buy GHD's they come packaged in a box on their own unless you buy packs which include accessories which are mostly sold online rather than in salons.

Baby Pink GHD's were once sold, in aid of breast cancer, they cost £130 and a fraction of that price went towards charities supporting breast cancer.

You can now purchase GHD's in white, deep purple and hot pink too.

To take a closer look at the styles and colours of GHD's just pay their official site a visit www.ghdhair.com.

You can even purchase GHD's now for short hair - even for mens hair. These are pencil thin, and are just as expensive costing £100 again. They are meant for men or women with short hair who enjoy styling their hair as these aid with spiking the hair up, jazzing it up or of course just straightening it to give yourself the sleek look.

The newer GHD's come with a sleepmode so if left on and unattended they will switch off after 30minutes, preventing alot of accidents I should imagine. When you switch them on they beep to let you know they are on and they then beep once more to inform you they have reached their required heat.

All plates differ on straighteners but GHD's come with Advanced ceramic heaters and aluminium plates - I don't know exactly what that means but what I do know is that they allow for smooth straightening, no yanking or tugging of your hair and gentle movement when styling, volumising or straightening your hair. They glide along your locks with ease and require no force or pressure to straighten your hair as the heat from the plates do all the work for you, all you need to do is manouvre the GHD's in your preferred direction.

If you do decide to purchase a pair of these GHD's they do come with a 2 year warranty which from experience and friends experiences have been brilliant when it comes to returns and repairs.

No matter what straighteners you buy they are not going to be good for your hair nor benefit it in anyway. All straighteners damage your hair due to the heat and messing about but GHD have thought of all this and if you do visit their official website you can browse their GHD hair care products too.

These straighteners don't look anything special being just boring old black with a wire and plug hanging off the end but they really can work wonders with your hair. The heat and style of GHD's allow for ease of straightening and they can even tackle unruly frizz and tight curls. If you have straight (yet wavy hair) already it is just a simple task of gently gliding the plates across your hair and it evens out your strangs making your hair look, sleek shiny and soft. When it comes to tight curls and frizziness however alot more has to be done, but again GHD's can change the way you look. Along with sectioning your hair, clipping it back and straightening each section seperately, really focusing on your hair rather than rushing it can transform stunningly tight curls to long luscious straight locks.

Summary: Fantastic straighteners but they are very pricey!

The sleep mode sounds like a brilliant idea, many is the time I have sat at work wondering if I had turned my straighteners off! x

I don't know how I managed before my GHD's , must of been walking around with a total birds nest! I've had mine nearly 4 years and they are still going strong...considering I use them once a day (sometimes more) they have definitely been worth the price x
