I first got a pair of ghd straighteners about 3 years ago and was very pleased with them, they were very fast to heat up and straightened hair well. Although after having them for almost a year they broke. When you turned the straighteners on they would only work if you kept them closed (so they were pointless). I got a new pair as they were still under warranty and the new ones worked perfectly.

However after just over a year (after warranty had run out) this pair also broke. This time the wire at the end of the straightners began to buzz and you could hear the electricity through them, making them unsafe to use.

I didn't want to pay another £90 or so for another pair, which may also break, so I decided to get some cheaper straighteners for £25 and they work just as well as ghd's and get just as hot as them.

I would recommend ghd's as they were are very good and give a professional look but from my experience cheaper straighteners work just as well and have lasted much longer.

Summary: Good straighteners but cheaper ones just as good
