Advantages: Best hair straighteners around, Heat up fast, Fantastic for uncontrollable hair

Disadvantages: The flex and wire are of poor quality and dangerous , You cant live without them, Expensive

i bought my ghds at christmas and have had them for three to four months and i love them. i use them every day.
I have very uncontrollable hair and ghds make my hair gorgeous and silky and wouldn't swap those straighteners for the world. but a couple of nights ago i decided to straighten my hair before i went to bed as i normally do but within a few seconds of using them i heard a crackling of what sounded like static, thinking it was my hair or maybe i hadnt dried it properly i turned the ghds off and blew dry my hair again.
Thinking i solved the problem i began to use the starighteners again but i could still here the crackling coming from the base as i moved the wire slightly, to my horror blue sparks shot out at me and i could see the live electricity jumping inside the open wire! later on i investigated the hole to discover that the hole had not been made by a mouse or creature of any kind but after three months the wire on most sought after £90 straighteners had just worn through and the wire had snapped.
To say i was gutted would be an understatement , the damage is irrepearable and someone could have been seriously hurt .Luckily i have been able to obtain a new pair while i wait for a refund from the place i bought them but i will always be on alert from now on......and forking out £90 every 3 months when it is time for my staighteners to blow up is not an option......nor should it be.
I have also recently found out that i am not the first person that this has happened to nor by far,i doubt the last either. A girl i met while shopping told me hers caught fire! so my pair of ghds are in a long list of faulty straighteners coming from the ghd manufacturers
WARNING: to anyone considering buying these do not wrap them up after use this weakens the wire and you will end up having the same experience.
They are fantastic for straighteneing hair and i cant live without them but they have got faults, so to anyone who thinks they are per
fect this could happen to you, so just be aware.

The exact same thing happened to me. I was doing my hair and suddenly sparks were flying all over the place. I can not believe GHD did not re call the straighteners as this could have caused injury. Although this happened I stand by the fact that they are the most amazing straighteners I have ever used but I am suffering now as I have to put up with curly hair untill the company I got them from send me some more.

Yes this also happened to me. The shop I had bought them from admitted a whole batch of them had been faulty and they stopped selling them because of the problems. It is because the fuse rating and the plug didnt apply to the standard of GB sockets, well in this batch anyway. I got a new pair and i noticed the plug and fuse are different.

I personally am not that keen on straighteners, they can ruin your hair in the long run and make you static on cold days!! After that experience I'd rather spend my £90 at the hairdressers!
