Advantages: perfect results, versatile, they heat up super fast (perfect for the gal-on-the-go)
Disadvantages: bit pricey (but worth every penny!), they get very hot so watch your fingers and ears (ouch!)
As I am new to dooyoo, and this is my first review, I really wanted to make it a good'un. That's why I'm reviewing GHD Straighteners. They are, in every sense, perfect. I wouldn't say I've got a particularly bad head of hair. Whenever I go to the hairdresser's they can't seem to get enough of it: "Ooh it's so shiny...so thick...really healthy" etc, but to me, my hair has always been, sort of, mediocre. You know when you see those girls with perfectly sleek, poker-straight hair, and you kind of watch them walk past you in what seems like slow-motion, their locks swishing, and you're just...transfixed? That's how I wished my hair was. When I was about 13, I thought I was really cool because I was the first one out of all my mates to have hair straighteners. They were the BaByliss Straight & Shine ones. I used to think they were quite good actually; at the time they were pretty revolutionary. There was a little compartment which you had to fill up with water and then whilst straightenng your hair you'd press a button and the water would squirt out, supposedly shining your hair as the metal plates straightened it. They managed to tame my locks to a fair extent, but at the first sight of wind or rain, my hair turned back into horrible frizz! After a while I got tired of using them. For a start, they took ages to heat up, and I could actually notice that they were ruining my hair. It became dry and full of split-ends. Plus, they never gave me the sleek results I had hoped for. This was when I decided that I needed to invest in a new pair of hair straighteners. I was first introduced to GHD's through my friend. About a year ago, we went on a school trip to Italy, and I'd forgotten to pack my trusty BaByliss's. It just so happened that my friend owned a pair of GHD's, so of course, I was constantly begging her to let me use them whilst we were on holiday
(as were most of the other girls who were on the trip). Honestly, people were waiting in line in our room to use them. I had heard about them being amazing, but didn't really expect them to live up to all the hype. I was so wrong. I plugged them in, and flicked the switch to use them for the first time. A little red light came on, and after about ten seconds, it started to flash. They had heated up already! (To 210 degrees! In ten seconds! Wow!) I picked them up to straighten a section and instantly noticed how lightweight they were, especially compared to my big clumpy BaByliss's. This made them really easy to use. I was amazed that I only needed to run the plates over each section once (yes, just once!) before it was transformed from frizzy to straight. The ceramic plates slid really smoothly, and the irons were slim enough for me to straighten right from the roots (the root of my frizziness!). All in all it took me only around 10 minutes to straighten my hair (compared to around half an hour using my BaByliss's), and acheive fabulous, salon quality results. I was in love. As soon as I got home from the school trip I started pestering my mum to buy me a pair. At almost £100, they are, admittedly very expensive, but after seeing the results, I knew that they would be worth every penny. After two months of constant pestering, mum finally gave in and bought me a pair. I was over the moon! After reading through the leaflet that accompanies them, I discovered that not only do GHD's straighten hair, but they can also curl it, flip it, twirl it, spiral it, and condition and shine it! Wow! Within minutes I was experimenting with spirals, flicky pieces, twirls, curls, all with movie-star results! Now I knew how people like Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and Beyonce Knowles (all of whom swear by GHD's) always have beautiful, shiny straight hair. I have had my GHD's for about eight
mont hs now, and they still work as well as they did the first time I used them. I honestly cannot fault them. If you're reluctant to spend £100 on a pair of straightening irons, just consider how much you would spend on straighteners and products that are perhaps not as good as GHD's. It would soon add up, and would you really acheive as good a result? If you really want perfectly straight hair without any hassle it is probably a good idea, no, a brilliant idea to invest in GHD's sooner or later. I promise you, you won't regret it! (It sounds cheesy, but it's true!)
