Advantages: smells lovely, it works from what I can see!
Disadvantages: Perhaps the price is a bit steep, but still worth it
I'm very lucky that, although I've lived in London for the last four years, I haven't often had to pay the extortionate hair dresser rates to tame my long thick hair. My auntie is a hair dresser, so wherever possible, I hang on until I can get back to Portsmouth and get her to sort out my barnet!
Unfortunately, due to the hectic last couple of months, we both haven't managed to get a time that would suit us both, consequently, I have been relying on expensive hair cuts (which I have hated!!) and using hair dye to colour my hair black. My hair has started to look bloody awful if I am telling the truth! The top of my hair is glossy and black, but the further down the hair shaft I look, I see how all my hair has split, looks weak, feels like straw and generally looks dreadful. My hair reaches past my shoulder blades, and although I don't often dry my hair with a hair dryer or use straighteners unless I am off out somewhere nice, it had started to get to a point where, unless I straightened it religiously, it just looked like I hadn't bothered at all!
The product
=========
For Christmas, my auntie gave me GHD thermal protector for weak and damaged hair. I had yet to see her so she wasn't to know how desperately my hair needed a product like this! (Since then I have had a severe ticking off for dying my hair too often, had 3-4 inches taken off and been given some treament stuff, which Im bound to review at some point too!)
A triangle 150ml bright pink tube, I believe this product retails at about £9-10. You can get this on ASOS.com for £9.74. As mentioned in the title, this product is specifically for "weak and damaged hair". It is a product which is meant to be used on damp hair before using a hairdryer or on dry hair before using straighteners. This product is "Step 2" of a 4 step process for your hair. Obviously this is the only step I have, but I have a feeling as it's the "protect" stage, it's the most important part anyway!
As you would expect, this product is meant to protect your hair against heat damage, whilst "locking in moisture and nutrients".
Application and Results - Hair drying & straightening.
====================================
This is a pump action bottle and it smells wonderfully fruity! I used this product once my hair was cut and therefore all the bad bits of my hair were mostly gone. I applied it to clean damp hair, mainly focussing on the mid lengths to the ends where my hair was suffering the most. The pump action spray meant that I had a good even coverage.
The results were pretty fantastic. My hair maintained the lovely sheen that had returned to my hair since my hair cut. My hair was soft and the lingering fruity smell was wonderful. I can run my fingers through my hair without any snapping and my hair appears fairly smooth. The bottle says that this spray is strengthening and is "anti breakage" so I would say that it lives up to these claims. It also contains UVA protection.
The following day, (my hair is still shiny, but less smooth since I had literally dried and left it!) before going out, I once again sprayed this liberally on to my dry hair before using my GHD's. The results this time I felt were even better. Any fly away hair was instantly smoothed by the straighteners of course, but I felt like this spray was actually working, protecting my hair from its drying effects whilst still keeping moisture in my locks - it felt lovely and smooth afterwards.
Conclusion
========
I have resisted buying any further GHD products in the 5 years since I bought my GHDs, simply believing that they were overpriced and I could get just as good quality for cheaper elsewhere. However, I'd definitely pay out a bit more and invest in these again.
Summary: Protect hair from heat, this works!

- 10/01/09 This sounds like a useful product. My hair is waist length and it is hard work to keep it always looking healthy and shiney. My hair dries out in the midle - probably with using scrunches - I don't know but I think this is definitely worth a go. Thanks Kelly |

- 08/01/09 I have extremely fine hair - like baby hair, and often find 'product' can make it look greasy. Plus, I wash mine every day.
Having said that, this product does sound good, if it doesn't weigh hair down, though a wee bit pricey... |
