“ Brand: GHD / Type: Styling Spray / What it does: Protects, „
I use straighteners quite a lot when I am doing my hair but I have to make sure my hair is protected as otherwise it can get badly damaged and I can get split ends. So many companies do heat protection sprays but with me already having GHD straighteners, I felt it was best to stick to the same brand to get best results. I know the thermal protector spray comes in either dry or coarse hair or normal to fine hair, I went for the normal to fine hair as this one suits me the best. It looks good and it fits in with the look of all of the other GHD products. Now, it isn't the cheapest product to buy but I guarantee that once you have bought it, it will last you for a very long time so it is worth it as it is good value for money.
This thermal protector comes in a 150ml spray bottle and it is gold in colour with the GHD logo on the front and the design they have on all products. On the front it also states the product name and hair type that it is for and it has product information down one side. It is very light weight to hold and when you push the head down to spray, it comes out very easily as you don't need too much. The overall look of this is very stylish, it does stand out as it looks premium to me and it lists all ingredients used in the spray as well as warnings and directions of use and it explains about the thermodynamics formula that it also uses. It is very thorough so that you know exactly what it is that you are putting onto your hair.
GHD THERMAL PROTECTOR
Firstly, the thermodynamics side of the product is a range designed by GHD to protect hair during heat styling before and after for maximum protection to keep hair at its best. It helps hair against heat damage by locking in moisture and nutrients and it has an invisible hold factor for when styling hair and it has UVA protection. There is only one warning included on the bottle and this is that you should avoid contact with eyes and store it below 25 degrees Celsius and keep it out of direct sunlight. After reading all of this information about the spray, it does promise to be top of the range technology and I was excited to use it to see if in the long term if it really did change my hair and improve the health of it.
So, on opening the lid and spraying it onto my hair, it has a sweet almost fruity smell and it smells quite fresh but pleasant. This spray should be sprayed onto clean damp hair before styling or before using GHD straighteners. It should be sprayed lightly, you don't need too much of this at all, I always use it on dry hair when straightening and tend to spray gently onto each section before pushing the straighteners onto hair. Do not worry if you see steam rising from the straighteners as this is normal as it is evaporating the liquid, it then locks it into hair to protect. It smells nice when styling too and my hair had more of a shine on it I'd say after using this on each section, a little better than how it normally looks.
Once you have done most of your hair, it will be noticeably better in appearance, you hardly use any when doing a full head of hair if you are spraying lightly. It shouldn't make hair feel damp or you have used too much on your hair. I always find my hair smells great after using this but it doesn't make hair feel sticky or greasy which is great as it has a good texture to it. I have been using this spray for a year or more now and my hair hasn't got split ends anymore, I still get the odd couple but with using this my hair looks in better condition, it looks healthier and a lot shinier and I do think it is a worthwhile investment as you can relax more when you know your hair has some form of protection on it.
I recommend this to anyone who is using heat styling products as it does work and even if you are blow drying, using this on damp hair will help. It is for anyone, not just GHD users as if you are using products that are going to really high temperatures frequently, your hair will start to suffer but with a spray like this, it should just ease off that damage and make hair look glossy. I use this all of the time now and as soon as mine runs out, I will instantly replace it with a new spray, it has lasted me for ages this spray, even up to a year I'd say which is a very long time as 150ml is a lot when you are hardly using any per styling session. I couldn't recommend it more and feel most people should use this as split ends are not a nice look.
This can be purchased in salons or online or even places like eBay will have deals on this. The official RRP for it is £9.99 and can be purchased most places even in department stores like Selfridges.
The official GHD website is http://www.ghdhair.com/.
I have used this GHD Thermal Protector Spray for a couple of years now. It costs £7.75 and I buy it through Amazon which seems to be the cheapest place to buy it. It currently sells for £9.25 in the Salon Regis in Manchester! It can be hard to find GHD products in shops these days as a lot of places don't stock them. Boots don't sell GHD products and neither do places like Tescos or Asda.
The bottle is more unusual than a regular bottle of a hair spray product as it is a triangular shaped plastic bottle rather than circular. It is a light brown colour with orange and purple writing on it. I don't think the colour is particularly exciting but nevertheless I do like the product inside.
The top lifts off very easily and there is a pump spray underneath. The purpose of the spray is to protect your hair from heat damage so I use this spray on my hair before using my hairdryer and before using hair straighteners. It means the strong heat from electrical hair styling equipment hits a barrier of the spray before directly hitting your hair. You need to press down on the pump and spray whichever section of your hair you are drying/styling. The spray gives a nice even distribution on your hair and doesn't just go in one area. You then style your hair as normal. There is a light, pleasant fragrance to the spray. It kind of smells like a hairdressers does when you walk in the door, but nicer!
My hair is much better when I've blow dried it using this hair spray as it doesn't get as damaged or as frizzy. It makes my hair much more manageable. I also find my straighteners are more effective when I spray this on first. It is hard to see through the bottle to see how much is left in it so I hold it up against a lightbulb to see how far down the liquid is.
A good heat protector spray worthy of the GHD name. Well recommended.
I think its common knowledge that you should use a protection spray/serum when applying heat to your hair, especially when straightening.
The Thermal protector comes in a 150ml gold bottle, it has a spray pump which allows you to distribute the product evenly. The RRP is £9.95, although you can probably get it cheaper.
You can apply it to wet or dry hair, I prefer it on wet hair personally.
The main features of the Thermal protection spray are
Sunflower seed oil extract, this helps protect hair from UVA rays.
A thermal protector to deflect heat from the hair
Ingredients to protect and repair the hair.
Ingredients to help prevent colour fade
It is important to protect you hair from heat as heat styling can make hair weaker therefore making the chance of breakage higher.
The GHD technology in this heat spray helps protect the hair from any heat appliance up to 200°C
Thermal protection spray comes in 3 different strengths, normal - fine , dry + course, weak + damaged.
The Out of the 3 different GHD protector sprays this one (normal - fine ) is my favourite one, this is because I find that the others are too heavy for my hair and make it greasy whereas this one doesn't.
Overall i like this product by i wouldnt say it was my favourite product for heat protection.
This is a great little hair protector! I received one with my order of GHDs a few years ago and i'm still using the same bottle! It lasts absolutely ages. You can either spray on whilst hair is damp to reduce damage done whilst blow drying, or you can spray on just before straightening to protect from the straighteners. I have done it both ways and i, personally, prefer to use it before straightening as it gives my hair a lovely shine to it as well as preventing it from getting dry due to the extreme heat. We all know that GHDs are very hot, but most other straighteners are the same heat now so anyone with any other brand of straighteners should use this product too. If i didn't use this product i would have to cut more than an inch off each time i had my hair cut, with this product i can just have a trim as my ends don't get as dry as they used to!
I received this product free with my first pair of Mark 4 GHD straighteners, and have only so far used it a couple of times due to the effect it has on my hair!!!
The bottle is 150ml gold plastic one, with a spray pump action dispensing an adequate amount of the product out at one push. It has the instructions on the back to view, and it can be used on wet hair prior to blow drying or on dry hair prior to straightening. I liked the traingle shaped style top and bottle.
It is available of course to buy seperately at salons, and even better can be purchased online, a good place to buy it is eBay and do not forget to go through your cashback site in order to gain a little extra back, too.
Because I very rarely blow dry my long hair I have been using this on dry hair before straightening. I have each time used about 6 sprays because I need that amount to cover my hair, I am very careful to spread it evenly as my hair is dry at the minute and iI do not want to risk any further damage to it.
It coats fairly evenly and feels rather sticky to the touch for me personally on my hair. Nevertheless I began straightening...and once I had finished I really was not happy with the result, my hair looked dry, coarse, and had a very 'beachy' effect like the type of hair you can get when you are on holiday due to sun and chlorine etc. It felt slightly stiff and when I brushed through the hair was very static unfortunately, which only served to drive me absolutely mad. The only good thing was that it accentuated my layers, I have heavily layered hair, but it made them stick out a bit. Bizarre, I have been straightening for years and not really got this effect off anything else!!
Whilst I was straightening, the dreaded sizzling noise happened, and I felt like I was frazzling my hair rather than protecting it!! Spray type hair protectors tend to sound like this anyway and it just really puts me off using it ever again!!
Perhaps this particular one is not suitable for my hair type, but it really has put me off buying any GHD sprays again. I will use it again just to see if it does the same thing, but in all fairness I might just stick to my Farouk Chi StraightGuard cream I normally use.
I have tried many thermal protectors as I regularly use straighteners to tame my curly tresses! Yes I'm addicted to do my GHDs! And in my opinion the GHD thermal protector for normal to fine hair is superb.
What I like about it most is it does really seem to do the job. I have noticed less wear and tear on my hair since I switched to this brand which is a definite advantage. In addition it has a pleasant scent not too chemically like other brands. It lasts for ages as you only need to lightly spritz over the hair before you use appliances that use heat to style your hair. They can cause a lot of damage if you don't use protective sprays.
It may be slightly more expensive when compared with other brands offering the same size bottles. However, you get what you pay for and this is worth every penny.
I have straightened my hair for years and years now! Sometimes even twice a day. I have noticed that from using cheap heat protection alternatives, the condition of my hair has gradually worsened. Since using the GHD Thermal Protector (I use GHD straightening irons) my hair is defiantely more healthy and less dry and damaged. I have less split ends and less frizz due to my hair locking in the moisture from this product. GHD straighteners are hotter than most of the straightners on the market and therefore this product definately does its job of preventing potential damage. I have definately noticed an improvement in the quality of my hairs' silkiness and smoothness and in turn, manageability. This product smells gorgeous and remains in your hair for that post-salon feel. Although this product is more pricey than the cheaper alternatives, the results are evident that you pay for the quality. Also, good for holidays when climate is humid. The moisture from the product will prevent your hair going frizzy!
I regularly style and straighten my hair and like to try and use products that are going to keep my hair in good condition and when I had my hair styled I was offered the chance to purchase a 150ml bottle of this for £8.00 (it's available online for around £8 + postage from a few different websites) I decided to give it a try as it had been used on my hair and I was very pleased with the results.
The bottle is a gold triangular shaped bottle made of plastic with a lighter gold plastic lid and it has a press down pump action spray dispenser. When pressed a light spray is released and this should be used on damp hair prior to drying or dry hair just before styling. I usually pin up my hair in sections and then spray each section as I straighten it. The spray released has a very nice scent to it and is not overpowering at all. It dries in to my hair fairly quickly and does not leave any stickiness.
This product works very well and I do find that I have less split ends than I used to when I didn't use any product. Also, my hair is not as weak and it always has a lovely scent and shine to it after straightening whereas in the past I have not always found this to be the case. I also find that my styling lasts a little longer than it used to but I'm not sure if this is just from using this product or a combination of things that I have been doing recently.
This spray is designed to keep 'hair happy' when used before styling and I do find my hair reacts much better to the styling and just overall feels better looked after.
I think that £8.00 is a little expensive for what this is but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again because it's doing wonders for my hair, it styles very easily, looks & smells fantastic and GHD is a name that many people will know and trust now. I am going to rate this product 5/5 as even though it's overpriced (as I've said above) I do think that it's a great addition to any haircare styling regime and would not hesitate to recommend it.
I have now used this on and off for two years and I have found that a little really does go a long way with this. I usually spray this on my hair when I am styling in the bathroom before I straighten and I have only found myself finishing my second bottle recently. So while this is expensive it's quite good value considering the length of time that it has lasted me for.
I am always concerned about the heat styling damage to my hair as a result of using hairdryers, tongs and my most prized possession my GHD hair straighteners. This constant abuse can often leave hair feeling dry and looking dull and lifeless. I have tried several different products to try and combat this problem however in my quest for the perfect product I discovered GHD thermal protection spray which is ideal for repairing weak and damaged hair caused by heat styling.
This product has been specially formulated for use before, during and after heat styling. The manufacturer states that the product will help guard the hair against heat damage while locking in moisture and nutrients. This particular spray has been specifically formulated for weak and damaged hair it deflects heat damage strengthens the hair with its anti-breakage formula . In addition it also contains UVA protection.
This item comes packaged in a very modern and funky triangular shaped plastic bottle. Its predominant colour is a shimmering gold. It has the easily recognisable GHD graffiti logo on the front and it states that this is the thermal protector spray for weak and damaged hair. The lid lifts off revealing a spray mechanism.
To use this product simply wash, condition and towel dry the hair. Then simply spray evenly all over the hair. You then just dry and straighten your hair in the usual way. You can also use this on dry hair, you just spray lightly onto divided sections of the hair spraying lightly over the particular area you are working on and straighten. The great thing about using this product is that it is uncomplicated and easy to use.
The product is light and airy and feels weightless when applied to the hair. It has an extremely interesting and very unique fragrance. I know it seems odd however it is hard to describe, it reminds me of parma violets initially however when it settles down it is very pleasant and refreshing. The price of the spray is £8.99 for a 150ml bottle of the product however I would suggest shopping around as there is a bit of a variation in price depending on where piurchased.
I have been using this product for a few months and am now on my second bottle of the product. I have noticed a real difference to the condition of my hair and would highly recommend trying this item to anyone who suffers from weakened hair as a result of heat styling. My hair appears more shiny and manageable and is in a much healthier state. I seem to have fewer split ends and I put it down to using this spray.
The fragrance of this product is certainly an acquired taste however I find it extremely pleasant although I appreciate that it wont be for everyone. It is rather expensive however there are pricier items on the market which I don't think work as well as this one.

Overall rating and comments
I would give this product a four star rating and would recommend it to all
As a straightener-addict, I felt it was only fair to re-pay my dry, parched (yet straight) hair with a protecting spray. I'd tried many over the years, from the likes of Lee Stafford and V05, but when I upgraded to the infamous GHD straighteners, I found myself with a free (well, it was part of a giftbox) GHD Thermal Protector.
I was initially drawn to GHDs because they are such a cult brand, favoured by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham. The Thermal Protector Bottle is gold, and looks quite simple and classy. The back of the bottle states the following; 'Thermodynamics - when it comes to heat styling, the heat is always on. ghd's thermodynamics 4 step range has been expertly formulated for use before, during and after heat-styling, for maximum hair happiness'. It claims to 'guard the hair against heat damage, while locking in moisture and nutrients'. Sounds good, so I gave it a go...
Directions for use
'Spray onto clean damp hair prior to drying or before using your ghd styling iron on dry hair, spray lightly onto each section as you style'.
The spray bottle means it is very simple to use and allows the product to be dispersed evenly throughout the hair. Although the directions suggest you spray the product onto each section of hair, I have personally found in the past that this can leave the hair limp and flat, making the hair look worse than before. So I sprayed the hair to the left of me once, and the hair to the right of me once. I found this to be sufficient, and as I pulled the straighteners through the hair I didn't get the fizzing sound you can sometimes get when your hair is burning! Afterwards, my hair looked really shiny and straight, and I felt it was moisturised too.
Retailing at around £9.75, the product isn't particularly cheap, but in the long run I think it's better to spend a little more on protecting your hair from the elements, and heated appliances such as hair dryers. I would definitely buy this product again, as it left my hair feeling silky and protected, and lasts a long time so is worth the money.
I allways had trouble making my hair look half descent and my hair is really curly and gets a bit frizzy in the winter. And i had a pair of babyliss straightners that barely straightened my hair just about to give up i went to have my hair coloured at my local hairdressers.
When she finished my hair and turned the straightners on i couldent believe how thin and swanky they looked and couldent belive the result they left my hair with so straight and silky.
So i thought about buying my self a pair and relising the price i was quite shocked but to my luck i had been bought a pair the following christmas.
They come with a ghd hair protector but i dident bother.
After my first straighten my hair sizzled about as they get so hot and made my hair a little estatic.
After a while i started to use the protecter and couldent belive the difference it really helped and i dident hear my hair crackle once.
Its best to wash your hair then towel dry and apply it then and straighten.
It gives your hair a nice look and doesent smell bad either. Its around 9.99 a bottle but cheaper on ebay or from you local hair shop such as sally's.Its a really good idea if you use your ghd's as much as me around twice a day.And you only have to give about 6 squirts around the hair and it seems two last forever ive had mine for a year and a half and it still fills pretty full so well worth the money.
And you can use it no matter what straighteners you use or even when your using curlers or any other hot hair products.
When I bought my ghd hair straighteners I thought I would splash out and buy some of the hair products to match. One of the products I bought was 'Ghd Thermal Protector for Normal-Fine Hair'.
Since I use my hair straighteners pretty much everyday, I think its important to use some kind of product in order to try to protect my hair from the heat of the straighteners since it can be really damaging to hair over time. I was not disappointed with this product in the slightest and am really glad I bought it.
This specific product claims to protect hair from heat from straighteners and hair appliances for temperatures up to 200'c, and it also protects hair from becoming weak.
The bottle is plastic and comes in a metallic bronze/gold colour . The bottle is triangular in shape. On the front of the bottle there is a mosaic type design which comes down from the top into the middle of the bottle which is nice and simplistic and is the only coloured spot on the bottle. Underneath that is written 'ghd' and then 'thermal protector for normal-fine hair'. The bottle has a removable plastic lid and then there is a spray top for easy application, but this can be removed by screwing it off, if so desired. I really like the funky triangular design.
Boots have just recently started selling ghd products on their website so they're getting more widely available. I found that before they were mostly sold in salons, so I have been stocking up on ghd products online from asos.com since it was too much hassle trying to remember which salons sell it!
The thermal protector is really easy to use as comes with a spray top, so you simply spray it on to either wet or dry hair, and then you can get on with using your hair straighteners. Since the bottle uses a spray top, the liquid comes out as a nice fine mist so that your hair gets a good even amount and means that you don't use too much.
I really like how the thermal protector made my hair feel, not only was it easy to use but it made my hair less frizzy, it also made it shinier and it made it feel slightly thicker. On top of all that it is protecting my hair. I have noticed that after using it my hair does feel nicer and not as dry, which was an effect of using my straighteners without using something to protect my hair.
The smell of the thermal protector is actually quite nice (which surprised me!) I thought it was going to smell slightly chemically but instead smells quite sweet and a little fruity, which I think is an added bonus as it makes your hair smell nice!
This product should last for ages, since it comes with a spray top you use so little every time you use it. I only use a few sprays on my hair at a time. Even though I use mine everyday, I got my bottle about 8 months ago and I still have over a quarter of a bottle left.
The cost of the thermal protector is £10 for a 150ml bottle.
The thermal protector is to be used up within 24 months of being opened.
I would recommend this product. I really felt like my hair was smoother and shinier, and it even felt slightly thicker! It also gives me piece of mind that I am actually doing something to protect my hair since I use my hair straighteners so much.
GHD Thermal Protector Spray for Normal Hair. I got this product when I purchased my new hair straightners and i was not dissappointed, when using hair straightners they cause so much damage so you have to go out of your way to protect and save it from split ends and drying out.
This product replaces the GHD Iron Oil and there are different sprays for all hair types from normal to thin hair. It replaces the mositure taken out of your hair from straightening and that enable the protection and hold.
This is a spray that is a damage protection spray and GHD Thermal Protector is for normal to fine hair and with its great new formula with extra heat protection.
It is a product with a great fragrance leaving your hair feeling fresh and clean and conditions your hair whilst also smoothing your hair. The thermal protection spray also protects you hair from the suns UV rays too which are also damaging to your hair.
For the best results wash and condition your hair and after towel drying apply the thermal protection onto your hair, then apply more when straightening. If you are just straightening you hair and have not washed it before hand just spray it on each section of you hair and straighten after.
GHD recommend that you use the GHD styling range for best results after use.
I think it's great product and that GHD have done really well in not only crerating the best GHD's but also products to protect your hair from the dammage that there product can cause. It leaves my hair lovely and soft.
This product retails at around £8-9 but if your search around onlie it is unbelievable the savings that can be had on this product, but in my opinion whatever the price is worth every penny and leaves my hair feeling and looking great.
Using my GHD Straighteners everyday on my hair really does worry me about the damage I am causing to my hair, the last thing I would ever want is to end up with no hair because it had all fallen out. So it was suggested that I whenever I used my GHD's that I used a protector on my hair to protect it from any harmful damage that I may cause.
My stylist managed to convince me to try 'GHD thermal protector for normal-dry hair' and for me its main selling point was that not only should it protect my hair and enhance the shine of your hair as it was straightened but it states "The ghd Thermal Protector, with new Heat Reflection Technology, is a divine weapon against heat damage. It gives you maximum protection against heat appliances, up to 200°C to ensure that your beautiful strong hair always triumphs over heat damage". So I felt this was perfect for me because I have quite thin hair and I never need to have my straighteners on the highest settings to get the poker straightness.
This product comes in a 150ml gold coloured bottle with the words GHD written in red clearly displayed and it looks very similar to a bottle of shampoo in size but this product is a spray. With any product from GHD you have to expect to pay a higher price than your high street serums and frizz balms and this product retails at many different prices depending on where you buy it and you can expect to pay anything from £8.45 to £12.99 which is quite a difference. I purchased my bottle online from the GHD website and paid £9.95 which I didn't think was too expensive.
To use this thermal protector you firstly need to ensure that your hair is clean and slightly damp so an ideal time to use it is after you have just washed your hair and have allowed it to dry naturally for a while. Then once you think your hair is ready to use it you simply spray the product directly onto your hair before you dry it using your hairdryer. Whenever I use a product of this nature, I never spritz the whole of my hair in one go because past experiences have taught me that you never get an all over even coverage, it is much easier to divide your hair into sections, as you would do to straighten it and then spray each section in turn therefore ensuring equal coverage of the spray is given, then once I have done this I comb my hair right through to allow the product to work into my hair.
Once your hair is dry you simply divide your hair into sections and straighten using your hair straighteners. This product also claims that it will "Control unruly hair and add sustained moisture when heat-styling" I have to say that since I begun using it a month ago there has been a notable difference in not only how straight my hair becomes without little wisps of hair sticking up all over the place due to static but it is much sleeker and it stays straighter for a much longer period of time, so I don't feel that I have to come home from work and re-straighten it if I am going out in the evening, instead I can just apply my hold spray (which is another product) and continue with my plans as usual. This product like many others contain extra ingredients to work on your hair to give it a better overall look and this one itself contains meadow seed oil which is used in a lot of hair care products and its primary function is to maintain the moisture content and help increase the elasticity and this is brought about by the heat of your hair straighteners.
As I mentioned previously in this review, this product says that it will enhance your hairs shine and the shine that now coats my hair after using this is absolutely stunning and much better than it has ever been before, it looks totally natural and really healthy and soft to touch, almost as good as the feeling you get after leaving your hair salon.
On the whole I am really impressed with my GHD Thermal Protector because it does protect my hair, enhance the shine and help keep my hair straight after using my GHD's once a day. The overall feel of my hair is that it is a lot stronger, healthier and moisturised and this is one product that I intend to keep buying.
Protects hair from heat damage due to hot iron styling /
