Advantages: adds moisture, protects from heat damage, lasts a long time, good brand

Disadvantages: can get cheaper ones

As a straightener-addict, I felt it was only fair to re-pay my dry, parched (yet straight) hair with a protecting spray. I'd tried many over the years, from the likes of Lee Stafford and V05, but when I upgraded to the infamous GHD straighteners, I found myself with a free (well, it was part of a giftbox) GHD Thermal Protector.

First Impressions
I was initially drawn to GHDs because they are such a cult brand, favoured by celebrities such as Victoria Beckham. The Thermal Protector Bottle is gold, and looks quite simple and classy. The back of the bottle states the following; 'Thermodynamics - when it comes to heat styling, the heat is always on. ghd's thermodynamics 4 step range has been expertly formulated for use before, during and after heat-styling, for maximum hair happiness'. It claims to 'guard the hair against heat damage, while locking in moisture and nutrients'. Sounds good, so I gave it a go...

Directions for use
'Spray onto clean damp hair prior to drying or before using your ghd styling iron on dry hair, spray lightly onto each section as you style'.

Performance
The spray bottle means it is very simple to use and allows the product to be dispersed evenly throughout the hair. Although the directions suggest you spray the product onto each section of hair, I have personally found in the past that this can leave the hair limp and flat, making the hair look worse than before. So I sprayed the hair to the left of me once, and the hair to the right of me once. I found this to be sufficient, and as I pulled the straighteners through the hair I didn't get the fizzing sound you can sometimes get when your hair is burning! Afterwards, my hair looked really shiny and straight, and I felt it was moisturised too.

Price
Retailing at around £9.75, the product isn't particularly cheap, but in the long run I think it's better to spend a little more on protecting your hair from the elements, and heated appliances such as hair dryers. I would definitely buy this product again, as it left my hair feeling silky and protected, and lasts a long time so is worth the money.

Summary: A really good product that delivers impressive results
