An okay shampoo, but I wouldn't buy it

I recently treated myself to a YouBeauty box, and this was one and the matching conditioner of the items that I chose to get with my January box. My hair is damaged due to dying it, and I am always looking for the next miracle product to turn the bits of straw into silk. I received a 50ml bottle of this shampoo and this was enough for about a month's worth of usage.

I hadn't heard of this brand before, but I was suckered in by the promise of how this shampoo promises to provide rich intensive care for dry, damaged, or unruly hair and restores manageability and smoothness. To achieve this, this shampoo contains silk proteins and moisturising lipids such as jojoba oil and wheat lipids to rehydrate dry hair and repair damage caused by environmental factors and heat styling. There is added UV in this shampoo to help avoid damage from sun and wind damage.

The brand has been in existence since 1948 and was established by a then 27-year old business man by the name of Hans Erich Dotter. The brand's first product was the Goldwell Ideal, which was a lotion that enabled people to give lasting shape to their hairstyle.

As I received a smaller sample bottle, I can't comment much on the packaging, although it is the same colour that is used in the full sized shampoo in the picture above. Mine also has a gold lid on it. Admittedly, the packaging and the use of so much gold does give this shampoo a slightly high end look.

This shampoo is a pale golden colour, with a slight shimmer. Thre isn't much of a scent to this shampoo, it just smells fresh and clean. It's easy to both lather up and rinse out, and I only need a tiny amount for my long hair. As I said, the 50ml bottle lasted a surprising amount of time, as I only needed to use a small amount of shampoo. The scent disappeared almost immediately, which was disappointing, as it has such a clean fresh scent that would be a nice bonus.

This shampoo confused me, I have used it a few times and was impressed with the results, yet other times, I noticed no difference. I did find that once I had dyed my hair using the Olia colourant (see previous review), this helped to make my hair more managable and looked healthier. I have used this both with the matching conditioner, and with my usual conditoner, and strangely got better results when I used a different conditioner.

I am very undecided whether I would recommend this shampoo. It seems to depend on what day of the week this will make a difference to my hair, and I feel that I have used much cheaper shampoos with similar - if not better - results. At a cost of £8.00 for 250ml this shampoo from lookfantastic.com, I feel this is slightly too expensive for what the shampoo achieves. The 250ml bottle is available for £7.82 on amazon prime, and the 500ml bottle is around £10 on amazon. This may also be available through Trade Secrets and other high end haircare shops.

This shampoo does contain SLS's, which would explain the ease of lathering up. I don't have any issues as such with these, but I know they irritate some of my friend's scalps. If you were interested in trying out this shampoo, I would try to track down a free sample of the shampoo before splashing out for the full size bottle.
