Advantages: Keeps hair smooth, reduces frizz dramatically, adds shine.

Disadvantages: Not as cheap as some products in Boots.

When I visited my hairdresser for last Christmas I was looking a right state, mainly due to my stinking hangover but also due to the fact that my hair resembled a back combed bush in all honesty. Most of the time I straighten my hair using my trusted GHDs but around Christmas time I was having dreadful problems during nights out as my hair kept going frizzy… that dreaded word that all girls hate! I desperately asked the advice of my hairdresser who suggested a product made my Goldwell called from their Trendline range which is quite simply called “Straightener.”

The product comes in a dark blue plastic bottle with a grey dispenser head that can be pushed down on for easily dispensing the product (but annoyingly you often forget to turn the head to lock it when you pack it in your case!). The bottle is quite simply decorated with the product name and brand symbol on the front while the back shows the instructions, ingredients and the fact the bottle contains 250ml. The product itself is a clear gel in colour which is moderately thin in consistency, similar to that of shower gel or bubble bath. It smells quite similar to the inside of my hairdressers if I’m honest, quite an expensive smell almost, with a slight hint of nail varnish and hair spray also!

The product promises to relax waves and curls so as to create straight and sleek hair until the next shampoo, if that wasn’t good enough it also offers superb shine and it will protect hair during the drying process – ideal if you use straighteners regularly. The instructions specify that you “dispense an adequate amount in the palm of your hand and work through the towel dried hair in sections.” I find that two squirts of the pump is sufficient for my hair but of course it will depend on the length and thickness of your hair. Merely distribute it with your hands through your hair and then comb through to ensure an even spread of the gel. After that merely blow dry and straighten as you normally would.

So what were the results like? Well my hair is naturally quite curly and extremely frizzy if I don’t apply any serum to it, which I never do when using this product. After blow drying my hair my heart did begin to sink as the frizz was still evident, as big as ever and just as ugly. However as I started straightening my hair it did feel a lot softer than normal and upon finishing it also appeared to be a lot flatter and sleeker looking that it usually did. To put it to the true test I went out the following night after applying a pea sized drop of the product to my hair (as suggested by the hairdresser, to prevent moisture from getting to it) and came home practically in the same condition (well my hair was, I wasn’t)! I was amazed to find that upon waking up the next morning and brushing it my hair looked just as it had done before going out the previous night – shiny, sleek, smooth and without a hint of frizz about it.

I’d recommend this product to anyone who suffers from curly, frizzy or wavy hair – even if it’s just to be used in preparation for a night out to prevent frizz rather than as an actual straightening product. I’ve had my bottle for about 6 months now and about a quarter full but that is with about 2 applications every week so it does last a while. It’s currently only available at professional hair salons and on the internet but if you are interested in buying it then here’s the best places and prices…

So if you want to avoid the frizz this summer, you know what to do! Thanks for reading!

Summary: A straightening gel from Goldwell to help straighten hair.

Good review, I don't need this unfortunately, my hair is the complete opposite, dead straight!

What ingredients are in this product? I have Psoriasis and I need to know if a product includes certain things such as Alcohol before i let it near me. Sounds like a great product though and otherwise a great review.

Ooo must give this a try, it's not as expensive as some professional hair straightener balms and lotions! xxx
