Gum Hair Hot Stuff
by Schlubalybub Gum Hot Stuff is a spray product that is for use with ceramic straighteners. The product claims "Improved, Easier Straightening". The instructions say to coat your hair then blow dry completely before straightening. It comes in a black bottle with white writing. A LOT of white writing. A lot of the wording on the back of the ... bottle just repeats what has been said on the front of the bottle, and only a small amount of this is directions of use, and some of it seems like common sense more than anything- one of the suggestions is to never straighten your hair from tip to root, which seems obvious to me, straightening in that direction seems pretty counter-productive. I'd never heard of this stuff before my mum gave me a bottle of it, so I don't know how much it cost or anything. I used it once at her house, and because she doesn't use things like that, she gave it to me. I have since used this product every time I wash my hair. It says on the bottle that the product is for use with ceramic straighteners, but I have found that it leaves my hair less frizzy after blowdrying than just drying straight after washing. My hair is quite dry and difficult to straighten usually, but once I used this, it became slightly easier. My hair still takes forever to straighten, but this product helped make a better job of it, and my hair stayed straight for longer. The product smells really nice, and the scent stays in the hair once you've dried and straightened, which I feel is a bonus. I didn't have any residue on my hair after using Gum Hot Stuff, and I felt that it would be worth investing in, although I would like to try other similar items, as this was the first product of this kind I have used. Overall, I think that it is a good product, I think that it would do better not to have the essay on the back, which is mainly raving about how Gum Hot Stuff is used in salons, and keep it simple with directions of use, with less of the bolding of "key words" Read the complete review |

Gum Hair Hot Stuff
by dawnmarywhite ~~~~~~ Gum Hot Stuff ~~~~~~ I actually bought this thermal protector spray quite a few years ago now. I bought it at the same time I got a protective spray by Schwarzkopf which I adore, so never used this one much. I have used it now a grand total of twice and can only rate it as very poor. The last time I used it was quite ... recently, as I had run out of my normal one and I thought maybe it was my fault somehow it didn't perform the first time, so I gave it another go. ~~~~~~ First impressions ~~~~~~ This spray comes in a rather attractive 300ml black bottle, which is chock full of information, including some salon tips. It is designed to be used with heat styling tools to protect hair by preventing moisture loss and it also promises "smoother, shinier, longer lasting results" and claims to be "salon developed, salon tested, salon approved and salon preferred". I'll eat my hat if that's true! It is supposed to improve the performance of your straightening irons by taming your hair, making for effortless straightening so you can have a beautiful head of sleek shiny hair. ~~~~~~ Using it ~~~~~~ To use, it's simply a matter of spraying onto towel dried hair then combing through before blow drying and straightening. It is very easy to apply using the spray nozzle, and it does have the added bonus that it smells quite nice - a bit fruity, sweet and not really very 'harsh' chemical. When sprayed, the product is dispensed in quite a fine spray which does allow for nice even coverage without over using. I found this one did leave a scent on my hair for quite a long time, although it only became noticeable if I pulled my hair under my nose! In any case, the smell isn't offensive at all in my opinion. ~~~~~~ Results ~~~~~~ Firstly, I found that this left my hair feeling a bit sticky. After use and throughout the day, if I combed through my hair with my fingers my hands felt they needed a wash! So it was off to a really bad start. Since my hair is really long, when I wear it down it does get touched a lot. I often have to flick it back over my shoulders and of course, if it's windy I will quickly smooth it down and finger comb it when I get in anywhere from outside. The coated feeling doesn't disappear over time either, it's pretty much there until I next wash my hair. During use, I didn't find it at all easier to straighten my hair, I actualy found it harder! It didn't make my hair sleek and it was more like a battle trying to tame my hair, when it's usually so easy with my normal product. I do eventually get my hair straight, but it neither looks nor feels as smooth as usual and when I touch it lightly on the surface it just doesn't feel right; it's a bit fluffy feeling and looks puffier than the usual sleek barnet I get. Shortly after using it (like, within an hour!) my hair has sprang into thick, frizzy looking waves and it really does not feel good at all to the touch. When it gets like that I can't fix it, my straighteners seem to be powerless against this assailant. The ends of my hair look almost matted instead of lying straight alongside each other if you know what I mean. Put simply, there's nothing I can do but plait my hair or wash it to be rid of this foul beast! ~~~~~~ Recommend? ~~~~~~ I think I paid around £2 for this from Semi Chem, as I remember it was slightly cheaper than the other one I bought (which was £2.50 ish). Which is about £3 more than it's worth to me! It doesn't fulfill a single one of it's promises on my hair; my hair looks a dull, frizzy mess when I use this and I refuse to believe that it protects my hair effectively as my hair does not feel remotely conditioned - it feels dry and rough and looks it too, not the shiny, sleek and smooth head I was anticipating, so I cannot recommend this in any way, shape or form. My hair is naturally quite dry and prone to a touch of the frizzies, but it is always soft and when styled (straight or curly) to wear hanging loose it is smooth and shiny. So perhaps this product is simply not compatible with my hair, but there are many, many products that do give me everything this one promises, so I know it's not just that my hair that can't be smooth, sleek and shiny. When I originally posted this review on Ciao I offered my practically full 300ml bottle to anyone who was happy to let me have their address. I do still have it so if anyone wants to try it for free just let me know. It may work for someone else! Read the complete review |

Gum Florida Orange Moisture Surge Conditioner
by xxfoxyredxx When it comes to hair products I love them and own absolutely loads of stuff! One of my main purchasing delights is conditioners and I particularly see them as a luxury and a treat in a sachet. This particular one I purchased cost me 99p (usual price and I purchased mine in Wilkinson's but widely available in other stores such ... as Superdrug and Boots). I bought this for a reason for a change as well. I felt like I needed the 'Moisture Surge' promised on the front of the sachet as I wanted it for when I'd dyed my hair. I dye my hair regularly and I also use a lot of heat straightening methods to control my unruly hair. My hair is prone to greasy roots, a frizzy mid section and dry split ends and is generally very naughty! Yesterday I dyed my hair and my hair was left feeling incredibly dry but I always dye it use the given conditioner (in the box of hair dye)and leave the colour to settle but my hair doesn't 'feel' my own and some dye is left blobbed on my skin and that sort of thing so I don't leave the house the day I dye. Second day (today) is the day I reclaim my hair and make it back to feeling my own. I use a decent shampoo and get out some decent conditioner to rehydrate my hair. That's why I go this one out tonight to use! Excited I was! The Packaging.... White packet that is silver foil on the inside (to keep the product fresh). On the front there is a yellow and purple box and in that in white and black writing I'm told it's 'Gum Hair Juice'. In small black writing I'm told it is Florida Orange Moisture Surge, Conditioner For Parched, Dry Hair and I'm told 'Condition Is Everything'. On the back all written in black writing I'm told there are 3 steps to fab hair: Step One: Find a good hairdresser Step Two: Get a great haircut Step Three: Get gummed up! Then there is a small purple coloured box and in that once again in white writing I'm told it is Gum Hair and once again under that I'm told condition is everything and to 'Drench it, Quench It! I'm then told a bit about the product, directions for use, ingredients are listed, contact details for Gum Hair are given, size is stated (25ml) and there is a bar-code. It's nice, plain packaging and looks ok but it really isn't exciting. A Bit About The Product (According To The Sachet).... A tangy, refreshing, revitalising experience. Works like a dream on the driest, most moisture-starved hair! Smoothes and softens to give shiny, manageable healthy looking hair. Directions For Use.... Shampoo using Gum De-Tox Cranberry clarifying Soak. Rinse thoroughly. Apply sufficient Gum Juice (this product) and massage through the hair. Leave for up to 3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. My Experience.... Well I used mine in the bath tonight during a much needed pamper session! I washed my hair through twice with a decent shampoo (I'm currently using a Toni & Guy shampoo I adore lol) and make sure my hair is rinsed properly (I didn't use the recommended shampoo as I've never even seen it to purchase lol). I then slightly rung out my hair with my hands gently and combed it through gently. I then opened the sachet which was easy to do as there is a nick situated at the top that makes it simple to open and I was greeted with a slightly opaque light orange coloured liquid. It's sort of a mix between cream and gel in it's consistency and although it is quite liquidy and you have to be careful with dealing with it cos it will wobble out your hands it isn't too drippy or sloppy just watch what your doing with it lol. The aroma is really zesty and orangy in a very fresh and juicy way. It's made a bit more subtle because there is a nice sweetness to it (making is suitable for men or women to use) and although one sniff has you in no doubt to what it is smell wise it really isn't overpowering or faked it just smells all rather natural really. Using it is simple you just massage and smear it all over the hair. There isn't a huge amount of product on sight of it but because it does have a hydrating greasiness to it a little goes a very long way (my hair is below shoulder length and I still had some left in my sachet which I splatted on my ends once I'd covered the rest of the hair as I didn't know what else to do with it lol). Once I gave it a good massage in I left it for 3 minutes (as recommended) and I had no feeling of it, no agitation and the smell was wonderful and relaxing. When it comes to rinsing it out it really was incredibly simple indeed and I could actually feel when all of the product was removed from my hair as I ran my fingers through it. Hair felt smooth before towel drying and combing it through and when I dried it off with said towel and combed it, again hair was left feeling none greasy but soft and the comb went through my hair very easily (for a change lol). I dried off my hair with a hairdryer and I was very pleased with the results. Hair felt very soft, looked shiny and vibrant. My hair had a smoothness about it and lack of frizz (but not life) that was visible to all. The smell you are left with is very delicate but still fresh and pleasant. Overall.... A really nice treat for the hair and particularly a good product if you have very dry hair although I have greasy roots and this hasn't appear to upset them at all. My frizz is blasted, my hair is shiny and my hair just looks and feels healthy. I really like this product and will buy it in the future as a treatment for when my hair is crying out for a bit of lurve lol.... Recommended! Read the complete review |
