Advantages: Price, Size, Heat

Disadvantages: None so far

Last year my friend at work brought in her Charles Worthington Straighteners as she was out on the tiles that night. She has a caucasian afro, but these straighteners were really effective on her hair with the big plates straightening a big section of hair. So that evening I went down to Boots and bought a pair of my own.

They were fine for a couple of months, but soon, flaws started to show. The plates had come loose and started to trap and singe my hair. Also the lock began to stick and I couldn't open them. I decided to invest in a new pair of straighteners, so put the oldies in the back of my wardrobe and gave my hair a rest.

I had a look on the internet and there was a whole new generation to chose from. With a big range in prices, I decided to put a pair of GHDs on my birthday list. I had seen these on The Salon and they seemed to be well recommended. A few weeks went by and I longed for straight hair again, so had another browse on the internet and saw recomendations on a pair by Hair Tools. I had never heard of these but saw reviews and the consensus seemed to be that they work as well as GHD. I found a pair on Ebay at £39.95 inc. p+p. A few days later they arrived.

My hair isn't particularly curly, but it is wavy and my layers take on a life of their own, going in all directions. I wanted the straighteners to calm them down more that anything. The straighteners have four heat settings 'A' being the highest. I decided to start on 'C', and they heated up within a matter of seconds. I decided to risk going up to 'A' as I wanted to thin my unruley mane. They really make your hair shiny and healthy looking. If you do section by section on medium length hair it will take about 15 minutes and with the straighteners being so thin you can do small sections of hair easily (I have a swept over fringe - you can imagine how hard this was with big old chunky straighteners!) When I'm in a hurry I just do the t
op layer of my hair. They can also make curls (if you have the time or patience!) by losely twisting a section of hair and running the straighteners over it.

I haven't used the GHDs so can't really compare with those, but to think I was going to spend £95, then I think I have got a bargain!! I know it's really confusing with all the different makes and models, but if you want a good pair of straighteners that do the job and give really fantastic results then i would by these!
