Advantages: Clears and manages your dandruff, The conditioner puts back some life into the hair

Disadvantages: If you stop using it for a short period the dandruff is most likely to return, , Not a permanent cure

I have been using Head & Shoulders Shampoo for many years now.

I still remember days when the bottles had there unique shape. The one with a long neck and with a screwcap.

Infact I wrote an opinion on Head & Shoulders some time ago and have now re-visited this same category to write about the other version that I am using.

This is the Head & Shoulders 2in1. (I will refer to it as H&S sometimes in this opinion)

Head & Shoulders is the No. 1 selling shampoo brand in the U.K. and over time they have introduced many different formulas and variations to their standard shampoo.

It is made by the giant Proctor & Gamble Company the home to many household brands.

One thing that remains unchanged though is the colour of the shampoo itself. The sky blue colour is unmistakable and almost unique to this brand.

I have been suffering from dandruff since my teenage years and with the help of Head & Shoulders have been able to control it satisfactorily. However if I stop using it then the dandruff appears within a few days. This is probably the reason why Head & Shoulders maintains a solid base of trusted users and more likely than not, once you start using H&S you are most likely to stick with it for a long time to come. Certainly it does help the majority of users by eliminating the dandruff, but as mentioned earlier, if you discontinue using it the dandruff reappears quite promptly.

Surely there must be some medication out there that could remove dandruff permanently, but then again if there was brands like H&S would go out of business.

Back to the product. One of the major disadvantages of H&S is that even though it handles the dandruff issue well, the chemicals used to do this have just the opposite reaction on the hair itself. The scalp and hair are almost battered into submission and although the hair gets cleaned it is stripped of all its natural elements like oils, protein etc. This l
eaves the hair very dry and lifeless and for those that have lots of hair (especially women) this can be a major problem.

It is principally with this in mind that H&S have developed other variations of the basic shampoo and one of these is the 2in1 version.

This is also the version that I have now recently started using, which was more out of fate than choice. I usually purchase my toiletries personally but on the one occasion I got the wifey to pick up my replacement shampoo she ended up bringing this one home. For one of the rarer times I can honestly say that I have not been too dissapointed in getting the wrong product.

The H&S 2in1 version contains a conditioner to balance out the unilateral abuse that the dandruff killing elements, it possesses, dish out to your hair. It's sort of like punching someone unconscious and then reviving him with smelling salts and when he's awake do the same thing again.

This seems to work for my hair and this is probably helped by the fact that as I get older my hair has begun to thin considerably. Gone are the days of the jet black, every growing forest of hair that used to sit proudly on my head.

The more hair you have the less the benefits of the conditioner since the give and take affect is apparent here. (or should I say the Take, Take & Give a Little Back effect).

What I can say positively though is that it is significantly better than the standard "Classic Clean" version and provides you with the same dandruff protection. It is also suitable for everyday use. I personally wash my hair every two days. If I go 4 days without washing then the dandruff starts reappearing.

H&S 2in1 is available in plastic rectanguler shaped bottles with a blue pop - up plastic cap. They are a lot easier to use than the older version bottles.

I (or should I say the wife) purchased the 200ml bottle and they go for £2.65 a bottle. From what I understan
d they also have a bigger size and also a travel pack size.

Overall I am pleased with this version and will probably stick to it in the future.

After all my scalp is addicted so what choice do I have.

It wouldn't be commercially viable to produce a permanent cure, 'cos then we wouldn't keep coming back for more!
