A few months ago I was using TIGI's Your Highness shampoo and I started noticing big flakes in my hair even immediately after it had been washed. I suffer from eczema and I get it quite badly behind my ear and on the back of my neck, which often spreads to my scalp causing flakes. This however, was even at the front of my hair, so I could only assume it was dandruff and decided I needed to get something to sort the problem out.
The first brand that springs to mind (well my mind anyway!) when thinking of dandruff is Head and Shoulders. I remember my dad used to use it, and I would sometimes borrow it in the absence of anything else when I still lived at home - over 10 years ago now - that makes me feel old! I headed to Boots in search of a bottle, and had two shocks when I found it...
The first was the price. I was expecting it to be fairly cheap - perhaps around the £2-£3 mark, but a 500ml bottle actually costs £4.59 which is over £9 when buying together with the conditioner. I personally feel that is a little bit expensive, although in fairness nothing compared to what I paid for TIGI one that caused the problem! I'll be honest though, if it wasn't for the fact that there was an offer of 2 bottles for £6 I would have chosen another brand.
My second surprise was simply the range of different products. I knew there was more than one variety of Head and Shoulders, but I was presented with a choice much larger than expected. Amongst them, Citrus Fresh, Soothing, Itchy Scalp, 2 in 1, Smooth and Silky, Sensitive, Endurance (for hair loss), and of course Classic, which I assume is the one my dad used to use all those years ago. I decided on Damage Rescue, as my hair is long and at the time it hadn't been cut for a while, so was very damaged on the ends.
This shampoo promises to provide intensive care for dry, damaged hair and is suitable for frequent use. It has the British Skin Foundation stamp on the front, which is always re-assuring. Head and Shoulders say that it will tackle the cause of dandruff and sweep away visible flakes from the first wash.
When I squeezed the shampoo out of the bottle I was surprised to see how thick it is and also that rather than a translucent gel as I would expect, it was an opaque yellow colour. It looked a bit like custard actually! I always remember my dads being a bright blue colour and the blue lid had led me to expect that this would be the same.
I also remember Head and Shoulders having a very strong smell, so was pleased to find that this one had a very light and fresh smell. It's slightly citrussy and very gentle, so I could only really smell it close up. The shampoo lathers well and rinses out easily too. I use quite a lot of products in my hair and with some shampoos I feel the need to wash my hair twice to get rid of all the build up. This one will get my hair clean in just one wash though.
The first thing I noticed after using this was that it really had got rid of the flakes in just one wash. This was quite impressive as despite the claims I had expected it to take a good few uses before it really started to work.
The second thing which I hadn't really expected, was that it left my hair feeling absolutely amazing! My hair often feels dry and coarse, but after using this it felt much lighter and bouncier. It did seem more moisturised too, but not greasy at all. It felt silky and smooth to the touch and had a sort of shine about it that many premium products have failed to achieve.
As for limiting damage, well that one is very hard to judge really. I can't really say 'yes, my hair is less damaged than it would have been using another brand', but it definitely looked healthier on the whole.
Overall I have been really impressed with this shampoo. I have alternated with other brands over the last few months, but this is one I have frequently come back to. It cleared up the flakes I was getting in my hair incredibly quickly and left my hair feeling lighter and bouncier too, which I really wasn't expecting. I will definitely recommend this shampoo and I will be interested to try some of the others in the range to see if they're just as good.
My hair is as soft as silk which is good when touching but extremely difficult to handle. I guess my hairdresser's loves it... Anyway last time I was there for my usual highlight I had to wait quite a long time for the red dye and the bleach made my hair damaged a little bit. After a few weeks the red is hardly noticeable but the blonde part is dry. I was looking for a shampoo which helps to bring some life back to my hair.
I like Head & Shoulders shampoo as it is thick and foams well on my hair. I use the conditioner as well. The shampoo comes in a white plastic bottle which has a new design. There are loads of varieties on the market. I bought the one which is for damaged hair. The Sainsbury's offers it at half price now so you can have the 500 ml shampoo for only 2.24 pounds which is a fantastic price for it.
The shampoo is creamy to orangey colour but very pale and has lovely scent. After washing my hair with it my hair feels very clean and somewhat thicker. I know all the ads are about weightless floating hair but I am just bored with it as mine is like that without any special treatment. I found that Head & Shoulders gives my hair some weight and it is easier to handle it after using this shampoo and conditioner.
I can't say anything about its anti-dandruff effect as I don't have any. I use this shampoo just because of its hair repairing qualities. I've been using it for a couple of weeks, 3-4 times a week due to my active fitness obsession and I see some change regarding my blonde hair. I really like about this shampoo that its scent lasts quite long. I mean I can feel it even next day which is quite rare. Its scent is not overwhelming and it is unisex so men can use this shampoo too.
Overall I am very satisfied with this shampoo. Gives my hair some weight and life is returning into my highlighted hair. I have to mention that I use the conditioner too so the effect is not only from the shampoo. I think I will buy at least one more until it is available at half price. I recommend trying it on your damaged or dry hair.
Thanks Procter & Gamble!
I have always been a sufferer of dandruff and now and then I suffer more than usual so I tend to have some sort of antri dandrugg shampoo in my shampoo drawer ready for them needy moments to help resolve my flaky scalp problem.
Having dark hair, white flakes can really be a nightmare and pretty embarassing so I do try my best to get rid of it quickly as possible.
Head and Shoulders is a popular brand when it comes to anti dandruff shampoos. Have you seen the adverts, them clean, flake free partings? lol I couldn't resist trying it and I have been impressed ever since!
There is a variety of head and shoulders shampoos, and matching conditioners, to choose from but to choose my most recent purchase I got my nose on sniffing mode and decided I liked the Damage Rescue Version.
All Head and Shoulders anti dandruff shampoos come in a white bottle with a blue flip up lid on top. Head and Shoulders is written with a blue section on the front of the bottle as well as telling us it's Anti Dandruff shampoo. Each different type of shampoo can be easily recognised by the other writing and pictures on the front of the bottles as each has their different info and colour theme etc. The Damage Rescue shampoo has an orange/yellow colour theme to it, a picture of a strong and healthy, glowing lock of hair and clearly telling us in orange writing that it is Intensive care for Dry, Damaged hair for frequent use.
The shampoo itself is a creamy colour, and a creamy consitency, the colour has a hint of orange to it but very pale. Although it has a creamy consistency it's not overly thick or gloopy and it lathers up really well within my hair. It smells lovely, very refreshing and sweet, almost fruity but that's not a main scent. I can really feel this shampoo cleaning my hair and scalp whilst I use it, whilst lathering it up within my hair I can feel the light, airyness the refreshing shampoo provides for my scalp. My hair feels softer whilst using it which is promising too. Despite it's creamyness it rines out lovely and my hair feels really light and soft on my head even when wet. I am really impressed and pleased with how this shampoo treats both my hair and scalp. It always looks clean, bouncy and healthy and my scalp feels almost brand new. The dandruff flakes do lessen a lot which is more than I would've expected just from a shampoo and this happens in just my first wash. The fact it cleans my hair and makes it smell good too is a bonus.
My only gripe with head and shoulders shampoos is they rinse off the colour of your hair if you have it dyed and this one is no different, for this reason it loses a star from me but for everything else it's brilliant!
