Advantages: Soothes itchy scalp
Disadvantages: Made my hair dull and greasy
After my recent part-success with Head & Shoulders Citrus Fresh, i decided to route out the free trial sized bottle of Head & Shoulders Soothing for Dry Scalp, which i had recieved a few months earlier. I had not used any of this when i got it, because i don't actually have dandruff, and at the time, did not have dry scalp either, so i didn't think it would be worth using on my hair. But now i'd had a half-success with another Head & Shoulders shampoo, and had developed a dry, itchy scalp, i felt it was time to give it a go. It was a dinky little 75ml bottle, which is really just a shrunken version of the larger bottles, as it looks just the same. The packaging is nothing special, a white bottle with a blue lid. The sticker on the front of the bottle has the Head & Shoulders logo in plain view, as the main feature, then the name of the shampoo, 'anti-dandruff shampoo - soothing for dry scalp', in the bottom right hand corner. The back of the bottle has all the information you need to know about the product, including what it is, what it does, and how it works, directions, and a list of ingredients. The lid has a flip up section which opens to reveal the hole through which the shampoo is dispensed, which ensures ease of use, and secures the lid tightly to avoid spillage. According to the back of the bottle, the shampoo is designed with a soothing formula, which helps to protect the scalp's natural moisture balance, which in turn prevents dry and itchy scalp. The formula also helps to fight dandruff and leave you with great looking hair. The shampoo also has a gentle pH-balanced formula, which makes it suitable for every day use. The directions on the bottle are really easy to follow, just apply to the scalp and hair, ensuring full coverage from root to tip, gently massage in, rinse, and repeat if desired. It also suggests that for best results, the shampoo should be used every time you shampoo your hair.
When i first came to use this shampoo, i was quite surprised to be greeted by a more than pleasant, fresh, creamy smell, which was not at all chemically or medicated as i had expected from this type of shampoo. The texture of the shampoo is really creamy and smooth, and is neither too runny nor too thick. It is almost pure white in colour, and creates a really nice lather of pure white bubbles. I found it extremely easy to massage into my hair, and just a small amount was enough to easily cover all of my shoulder lenght hair. It feels great on the hair, and had a nice cooling effect on the scalp. The shampoo was quite difficult to wash out, and it still felt as though there was some left on my hair. However, this feeling went as soon as i began to towel dry my hair, and it suddenly felt really clean and fresh. My scalp still felt quite cool and refreshed, adn not itchy or dry. Once my hair was completely dry, my scalp still felt clean, fresh, and revitalised, and my hair looked clean and shiny, but no longer felt particularly clean. After about another 2 hours, my hait had begun to look quite greasy, dull, and not at all clean, which was extremely disappointing. The fresh, clean, soothed feeling the shampoo had given my hair lasted all day, and it did not once feel dry or itchy, but the efffects on my hair deteriorated rapidly throughout the day. So overall, another half-success story with Head & Shoulders. The shampoo is available in 200ml bottles, for £2.29, and 400ml bottles, for £4.29. I think, for anyone who values the condition of their scalp over the condition of their hair, this would be a reasonable price to pay, but if you want your hair to look and feel good aswell, then i wouldn't recommend this product.

- 10/03/03 I agree this shampoo only works if you have a problem with your scalp like dandruff etc, but is not good for everyday use because it leaves your hair looking manky. good review, vicky x |
