Advantages: excellent hair condition and natural colour
Disadvantages: I have not noticed any
Long, long ago, someone would have been able to see that my natural colour is a light-to-mid brown. Over the decades, I have experimented with lighter, darker and redder variants on this mousiness. I always found that lighter colours gave me a ginger tinge, or a fairly nasty yellow and left my hair looking lifeless and dull. Not long ago, I decided to go for total blonde. I started off with a product from a well known brand, which needed a pre-lightener and a blonde shade. This means, I actually paid for two products in my attempt to get the colour I wanted. However, once more, I ended up with an uninspiring and artificial yellow and my hair looked very out of condition. Finally, I tried Herbal Essences Extra Light Brilliant Blonde (shade XL2). This already contains a double dose of lightener and so does not require any extra purchases. I was a bit cynical about what the results would be, but quite frankly they were above all my expectations. I was delighted to see a very natural looking blonde staring back at me in the mirror. This hair colour is a dream to use. It is applied to dry hair, and does not drip at all. This means that I can carry on doing what I want to do while the colour develops, instead of hugging a towel around my shoulders. I keep the colour on for 45 minutes. This gives a lighter effect than suggested by the picture on the package for the results I can expect with my natural colour. When I repeat the colouring, every four weeks or so, I cover all my hair for 45 minutes rather than just the roots for the first however long. I find this maintains a of good blonde colour with a minimum of effort. I feel confident about doing this, because Herbal Essences leaves my hair in excellent condition. In fact, still full of New Year resolutions, I go to a gym and swimming pool several times a week. I do find that the showers and swimming pool have a bad effect on my hair. However, Herbal Essences restores its smo
othness and glossiness. The product carries a promise of "a vibrant blonde colour" that "radiates with shine". I think that Herbal Essences definitely lives up to its promise. I have no found a hair colourant with which I intend to stick for the foreseeable future.

- 19/04/01 Hi Pink Panther, it certainly doesn't make my hair go yellow, while many other products do. Used it again last night, and continue to be very pleased with it. However, I'm light-mid brown not dark brown naturally. I don't know how effective it would be on hair that is darker than mine. |

- 19/04/01 Wow what a good product. Good to hear that lightening products now can give you a natural blonde look rather than that brassy yellow you are talking about. I am very dark at the moment and want to get my hair gradually lightened soon which I will probably get professionally dont, and will keep this product in mind in case I need to do regrowth myself. Is is really that good that you dont get that yellow tinge ??? |
