Advantages: Smells Lovely, Cheap

Disadvantages: Doesn't have any affect

Okay so I'm always talking about my hair, I class my hair as an asset - I must admit I do love my hair! It's naturally curly, shoulder length and a bit ?early Scary Spice? (her only decent feature I must add).

Haircare has been a bit of a luxury to me since I was in my late teens - I always used the best of the best. Today I'm not so well off, me and my partner are making cut backs and I just can't justify £8 - £10 for a bottle of hair conditioner. I searched for high street priced hair conditioner for my hair type and decided to give this 'Clairol - Herbal Essences Conditioner' a go. The conditioner in particular that this review refers to is to 'Protect coloured/permed/dry/damaged hair'...

I purchased this conditioner from Tesco for £1.49 but I do know if you shop around you may get a better deal - I've seen it in Boots for 99p and I've seen it in my local Kwik Save too. It comes in a 250ml bottle with a secure cap so when travelling the bottle will not leak I've put it to the test!

On opening the conditioner you'll be greeted by a delicious smell which is rather sweet and fruity - not what you'd expect from a bottle describing a conditioner with 'Thyme, Wheat Germ Oil and Vitamin E in Mountain Spring Water' but it's so gorgeous you wont mind!

The conditioner itself is rather luxurious, thick and creamy as a good quality conditioner should be. My hair is thick so I do need quite a bit of product but did find I used double the amount of this conditioner than my normal one. The conditioner applies easily and spreads through my hair nicely. I always leave conditioner for at least 5 to 10 minutes just so it gets a chance to work it's magic!

Sadly this is where the praise ends. On rinsing my hair feels okay but not nearly as good as conditioned hair should. As an ex hairdresser I'm thinking that the conditioner although feeling good on application is
n?t actually penetrating the hair or even smoothing as a good conditioner for my type of hair should. The bottle claims that this stuff will 'Protect Coloured/Permed/Dry/Damaged Hair' but after a month's continued use I really don't think it's up to much.

So there we have it Mizzame's verdict on a high street conditioner. Most people rave about this stuff, sadly I don't, although my hair does smell nice! I think it'll be back to my salon prescribed Redken on Paul Mitchell conditioning products because although you pay more they do more and sadly in this case I guess you get what you pay for.

Clairol's Herbal Essences Range is made by Proctor and Gamble. Ingredients for this product claim to be mainly natural, deriving from plant sources although I did think the product smelt like sugary sweets! There are no animal by-products, which is encouraging.

Not for me, then. I need industrial strength conditioner for my hair!

I use it if I'm not near a Body Shop when I run out! It does smell lovely! :o)
