= = = FIRST THINGS FIRST = = =

Firstly I'd just like to say that this op is about the Fruit Fusions version of the Herbal Essences range in particular but, as dooyoo haven't got a category for this at the moment and as this op also contains info about other shampoo's in the Herbal Essences range I opted to put it in the "In General" category.

= = = BACKGROUND INFO = = =

It was many months ago, in the warm and sunny Summer of 2003 (seems like a distant memory now!) when Sarah_Louise set off on a quest for some freebies. I trawled through the freebie websites and came across one offer. It was for a free bottle of Herbal Essences shampoo. Having never tried Herbal Essences and always contemplated trying it but never quite getting around to it (you know how it is....) I decided to take the plunge and risk a tonne of junk mail by signing upto said freebie.

Anyway, I sent off for quite a number of freebies. I then awaited the post. I waited. And waited. And waited some more. Sadly, 99% of the freebies I'd sent off for never turned up. Despite me now being on the receiving end of loads of extra junk mail.....

However, this lil' package arrived one day. I eagerly opened it to find two mini bottles of shampoo. (Or, more precisely, one bottle of shampoo and one bottle of conditioner). The mini-bottles are so cute, containing just 45ml of shampoo/conditioner, they're like the lil' tubes of toothpaste you can get. They're so cute looking you don't want to actually use the contents! Or is that just me? :o)

After testing the products out I came to the conclusion that they not only smelt nice AND they seemed to get on well with my hair. What more could any gal want?

That was many months ago.

I have since now become a Herbal Essences addict.

Seriously.

Herbal Essences is wonderful stuff! (They do say admitting your addictio
n is the first step to recovery 'n' all that....)

I have since NOT used any other brand of shampoo. This may not be such a big deal to some of you, i.e. those of you with the annoying 'normal' hair that doesn't seem to be affected by build-up of residues.

My hair is highly annoying. It gets greasy if its not washed every 24 hours. I can go 48 hours at a push but it really is pushing it when its nearing the 48 hours mark. For this reason I wash my hair everyday. Needless to say, shampoo's tend to build up relatively quickly.

Before discovering the wonders of Herbal Essences (more precisely, the "Residue Removal/Clarifying" brand of the shampoo), I used to have to use about three brands of shampoo, alternating between them regularly to help stop the build-up. Since discovering Herbal Essences though this is no longer the case. Like I said earlier, I have not used any other brand since. HIGHLY unusual for me!

"My hair doesn't seem to be affected by build-up by using this shampoo so I'm going to stick to it"

Or so I thought....

It was a few weeks back and I was running out of the "Residue Removal/Clarifying" shampoo. I ventured to Superdrug to discover they had a BOGOF offer on on all of the Herbal Essences range. Excellent, I thought. I was going to buy two bottles of the Residue Removal/Clarifying stuff. Until I spotted te Fruit Fusions bottles....

Their brightly coloured contents enticed me to take a whiff. The advert of the lady in the pond in some tropical oasis came to mind. As did her lovely shiny, healthy looking hair. It was sold. (I'm a sucker for adverts!)

It was just a case of deciding on which colour to go for. After whiffing them all (all 4 varieties) I decided to read the labels. It turned out they all smelled the same (or VERY similar) to me, despite the ingredients supposedly being different. <
br>
I opted for the green bottle which is "Purifying". I decided on this one because I figured it was closest to what I'd originally intended on buying, i.e. the Residue Removal/Clarifying variety.

I also bought a Residue Removal/Clarifying bottle to go with the BOGOF offer just to be on the safe side!

I nipped off to the counter and the deal was done.

That night it was time to put it to the test.

Did it live up to expectations?

I'm pleased to announce that it did, and still is doing! As with the Residue Removal/Clarifying stuff, the Purifying version of the "Fruit Fusions" range isn't causing build-up either.

= = = SO WHATS THIS PURIFYING STUFF LIKE? = = =

Well, where to start!?

Firstly, the Purifying stuff is in the green bottle. It contains Kiwi, Kumquat and Fig extracts.

I love the smell (but then I do tend to like fruit smells when it comes to things like shampoos, body washes, etc). My mum isn't keen on fruity smells in soaps and things herself so I guess its just down to personal preference, as with everything else in this life!

I'm not sure what Kumquat smells like to be honest so I'll hazard a guess and say it smells more Kiwi/Fig extract smell in origin. To be honest though I can't put my finger on it! And as the other 3 versions (different colours for different types of hair) all contained different fruits, they all smelled the same (or very similar) to me anyway so I suspect its the standard fragrance they use rather than what the ingredients actually are.

Rest assured, it does smell nice! (If you like fruity smells of course....)

= = = USAGE = = =

One great thing about Herbal Essences (or so I've found) is that you can get a really good lather up without having to put too much shampoo on. Which, not only saves on faffing around, it saves on shampoo usa
ge too and therefore you may have a few extra pennies for Christmas!

As with all shampoos, don't bother getting any in your eyes, it'll hurt like crazy so just rinse, rinse and rinse some more.

Don't get any in your mouth either as it WON'T taste like fruit!
(Trust me. I'm talking from experience here! I once tried tasteing some GORGEOUS chocolate smelling bubble bath. YUCK. It was vile! It smelt nice but thats about all I can say on the matter! NB. I was only about 7 at the time so don't laugh!!)

It recommends you use with the Purifying Conditioner too. But then all bottles of shampoo recommend that! Having never tried it myself I can't say whether it improves the results or not.

= = = CONCLUSION = = =

Herbal Essences is the ONLY shampoo I've ever used thats not got built-up on my hair. And, because of this, it is now my all-time favourite shampoo brand.

Although this is predominantly about the Fruit Fusions range, I'll conclude by saying that I recommend ANY of the Herbal Essences range.

If you're partial to fruit smells then give the Fruit Fusions range a go while you're at it.

Most of the 250ml bottles will set you back around about £1.10-£1.30. I spent £1.19 on mine. BOGOF offer. So for two 250ml bottles for £1.19 its not bad value at all!

I'm a bloke, and all I need to know about shamppo is if it works. Oh, and maybe if it makes me smell like a girl afterwards, but the first bit is the most important, and I don't think you supplied it. Sorry. If you update this, please let me know. :)

Dearie me, Sarah!

Before you tell me off for giving you a low rating, look at your opinion, and see how much of it is about you discovering herbal essences, and choosing which one to buy; and how much is actually about what effects the shampoo has on your hair...!

I will, of course, be more than willing to come back and re read it if you change it, but since everyone else has rated you VU, there's probably no point, to be honest!

Fran ;)
