Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo
Advantages: Cleans well, smells good, good lather.
Disadvantages: A bit pricey.
I was shopping for shampoo a few months ago when I saw this Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo which was labelled as being 'new'. I'd never seen this variety before although I had used other varieties from the Herbal Essence brand since they had their radical make-over. I was attracted to this particular shampoo because I liked the sound of the added ingredients and the promised benefits of the shampoo. It is also a large sized bottle which suited me.
The product is sold as a 400ml sized bottle. The bottle itself is a translucent yellow colour. In my area this means it's not currently accepted for recycling although the type of plastic means it is suitable for recycling. There is a large lime green lid on the bottle. This has a big flat top with a little indent. If you push the indent the whole top lifts up to reveal a square shaped dispensing hole on the opposite side. The lid is easy to operate and also snaps back into place easily and is secure enough not to allow any leakage.
I really like the packaging design and colours used as it makes the product so eye catching. On the front label there is a picture of a honeycomb which helps to promote the fact that this shampoo contains honey extracts. On the front label it is also made clear that this shampoo is for damaged hair and that it is a "strengthening shampoo". The label on the back of the bottle is printed with full ingredients. Other special ingredients include apricot extract. There is a little bit of information about how this shampoo can protect against damage from brushing hair and other styling and there is a rather light hearted directions for use section too which basically gives the message of: 'work it, girl!'.
The shampoo has a very unique colour and consistency. It is the colour of set honey which is a pale golden amber. It seems to be thicker and more luxurious than most shampoos I've ever used before. It feels really soft and slimy as you apply it. It is easy to apply and the lather factor is amazing. I don't need to use much shampoo to create a really thick and creamy bubble rich foam. It can be worked into the scalp and hair really easily and rinsed clean quickly despite there being a rather dense foam.
The shampoo has a lovely fragrance which I'd call mild but effective. It is a fragrance that stays on the hair after washing and which pleases my senses as I'm using it. There are hints of apricot and nectarine. There is also a hint of honey sweetness which is nice. I'd describe the fragrance as being overwhelmingly feminine.
I have long highlighted hair which I wash about 3 times a week. The shampoo works well to clean and condition my scalp and hair. It also allows me to go longer without needing to re-wash my hair which is perfect if I'm feeling a bit lazy! My hair looks great after using and I like that it has a bit of shine. The shampoo is supposed to be a strengthening shampoo and I do feel more confident that my hair feels in better condition after use although it still doesn't create a huge transformation on strands of my hair that are already ultra dry or damaged (through bleaching and over styling). Overall though my hair feels less flyaway and seems to be at a stage where I've already styled it with product after I dry it.
Overall I'm pleased with this shampoo. I like how it works and how it smells. I like the fact that it is effective in cleaning my hair and scalp. I like that it leaves my scalp feeling fresh for many days afterwards. I also like that it makes my hair feel and look healthier although it is not quite powerful enough to heal some of my frazzled bleached strands. I would buy this again although I do think it's a bit pricey. I bought mine for £1.77 and this was on offer for half price. I think this was reasonable but I'd have to think twice about buying it at it's full price.
Summary: A good shampoo that is worth trying.
