Being a fan of the Herbal Essences range for quite some time, it is my mission to work through all of their products one by one. My next victim is the dazzling shine conditioner which comes in a luscious lime green coloured bottle and goes with the other vivacious colours in the Herbal Essences range.
The idea behind this conditioner is to give your hair that extra sparkle and shine so is ideally for people whose hair is perhaps a bit dull and needs a bit of a pick me up. I've found so far that the Herbal Essences range is a really good product to use and usually delivers on its promises.
So far I have only used this product a few times and to be honest, I am not sure if my hair is quite so spangling shiny as of yet. My hair does look rich and well looked after so that's a bonus and it is quite easy to handle. For maximum effect I also use the dazzling shine shampoo. There is also a hair mask in a tub you can buy which leaves your hair feeling lush too.
In my opinion I think this product is not as effective as it makes out to be but I will perhaps not buy this one again but I still love the Herbal Essences range.
While I have always regarded Herbal Essences as a trusted brand providing good quality products I had never used them until recently. I needed new shampoo and came across them in a sale. This isn't the first Herbal Essence product that I have used but it is the second. It is designed for normal hair and while my hair doesn't quite fit into this category I was hoping it would have some effect on my hair.
** Herbal Essences **
Herbal Essences is a hair care brand offering a wide range of shampoos and conditioners for every hair type. Their products help your hair look, feel and smell great. Their bottles have had a bit of an image uplift recently using more vibrant colours and different bottle designs. Though their new advert suggests that they are bringing back their classic range as well.
** The Conditioner **
The bottle suggests that it leaves your hair with a dazzling shine though I wasn't expecting much with my curly hair; it never looks shiny.
The shampoo has a citrus fragrance which you can smell when you first squeeze it into your hands. The smell does linger in your hair but it is a nice smell and not too overpowering; just enough of a scent to make your hair smell clean and fresh. After using conditioners of a lesser quality it was quite nice being able to smell the difference in my hair.
The conditioner spreads easily across your hair. I tend to need a good bit on my hand to cover all my hair but this is true with any conditioner and I wouldn't say that this one is any different. But my hair does feel softer for using it.
It hasn't left my hair shiny as suspected and it hasn't been as good at keeping my hair soft as other shampoos and conditioners in the Herbal Essences range have. It is definitely not the worst thing I have used on my hair though.
** Price and Availability **
Herbal Essences can be found in a range of stores. The smaller bottles are sometimes found in some bargain stores but are more easily found in high street stores such as Superdrug and Boots. They can also be found in larger supermarkets (e.g. Tescos). The range can also be found with various offers if you are lucky. The RRP for the 400ml is £3.89 but you can often pick this up for half price if you shop around.
** Overall **
While this shampoo wasn't for me I can't really fault it too much. If you have curly hair and/ or it requires more conditioning then I wouldn't suggest this range. However, if this doesn't apply to you and you do have normal hair then I would recommend giving it a go. I have been very pleased with Herbal Essences so far and will be happy to continue using their products.
I have used loads of the Herbal Essence range of hair care products and just before Christmas I decided my hair was looking a little bit lack luster and needed a bit of a brightening up. My hair looks dull at the best of times and as it's light in colour, I always find that it's quite difficult to get that same shine that brunettes seem to master much more easily.
I bought myself some Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Conditioner and I also bough t the matching shampoo at the same time and used them both together for a few weeks to see if it made any difference to my hair. I must say that I was impressed by the nice bright lime green / yellow colour of these bottles, they certainly stand out on the shelf and you're not going to miss them. Both the conditioner and the shampoo cost only £1 from Poundland and so I was quite pleased as they contained 400ml of product.
The first time I used this I actually used a different shampoo and not the matching one. The conditioner is quite hard to get out of the bottle the first time you use this, at least it was for me. I had to press the top of the hard plastic opening in order to get the contents out and with wet hands and standing in a running shower, I did find this a little bit hard to manage. However, after I ad use this a few times it became easier and top seemed to 'loosen off' slightly.
The conditioner itself smells gorgeous and if you love the smell of limes and lemons then you are sure to love this smell. It's not too rich a conditioner, in fact it's slightly on the runny side and not as thick as I had imagined it might be. On the other hand, it does detangle really well and my hair is left feeling silky and smooth afterwards with the lovely smell of lemons and limes.
In terms if it adding any extra shine to my hair, well I don't honestly think I can say it looks any shinier than it did before is started to use this conditioner. In fact it looks exactly the same to me and in this respect I suppose it has turned out to be little bit disappointing.
I would recommend it just as a 'nice' fresh conditioner which seems to suit my particular hair type really well but it you are looking for something to give you a nice shine then I don't think this one is quite up tot the job. Good price though and it does leave a lovely smell.
Review of Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Conditioner
I have no particular loyalty to any one brand of hair care products and tend to buy whatever is on special offer or attracts me for some reason. A branch of Home Bargains has recently opened in my home town and on my first visit to the store, I spotted the Herbal Essences were being sold for £1.25 each or any two items for £2, that is my sort of bargain! I chose the Dazzling Shine shampoo and matching conditioner. My review discusses the conditioner.
**Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Conditioner**
Made by the well-known Clairol Company, this conditioner is presented in a shapely recyclable plastic bottle. The bottle fits nicely in your hand and it is easy to grip especially with wet hands.
The main colour of the packaging is an eye catching bright lime green and the bottle features an image of a slice of lime, bears the Clairol logo and the promise of a 'shine reflecting conditioner'. All instructions for use and ingredients can be found on the reverse of the bottle.
The bottle contains 400ml of creamy lemon coloured conditioner. The dispensing device is a little tricky. The lid includes a push down section which depresses to reveal a slot through which the conditioner is dispensed. The conditioner has a lovely scent, it is fresh and citrusy. The texture of the conditioner is thinner than I had anticipated but it is not watery. After working the conditioner through my long hair, I found that it rinsed very well from my hair and left no residue or stickiness. My hair was gently fragranced too which was an added bonus. I had used the matching shampoo prior to this conditioner, so I daresay I had double the scent!
As for the actual conditioning effect, it was no more than average to be fair. My hair felt soft and quite smooth, or as smooth as my weird wayward hair can ever feel! As for shine, well, I cannot in all honesty say my hair shone particularly.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
This is a very good conditioner, it did a reasonable job on my hair but the promised shine did not materialise for me. I liked this conditioner very much and would definitely buy it again, especially if I were to find it at a sensible price. I would not describe this as a luxurious conditioner but it is fine for day to day use and as such I would recommend it to others.
Thank you for reading.

A little while back I bought this shampoo, and it's matching conditioner, as my boyfriend had a friend coming to stay for the weekend and I didn't want him using my Aussie stuff!
The bottle was half price in Tesco and so was £1.80 for a 400ml bottle. Although our friend came to stay for the weekend and used the shampoo, he didn't touch this conditioner so I am now using it from time to time to use it up!
I will admit that the half price price tag was the thing that first attracted me to this conditioner although I did also like the packaging which is a lime green plastic upright bottle with a flip cap. You should note that the flip cap is quite stiff at first, especially with wet hands so you may want to open it before you get in the shower!
The conditioner is very thin. It is bright green and it does smell lovely. It is really zingy and fresh smelling of citrus. Because the conditioner is so thin I use more of this than I normally would, rub into wet hair, leave a couple of minutes and rinse. It feels like it is all rinsed out relatively easily until I start to style my hair when I realise that it has left a reside on my hair and when my hair is dry it looks a little greasy which is a shame. It does smell nice though and is perfectly untangled.
The smell stays on my hair for a while but as it is so lovely I would have wanted it to last longer.
I hate wasting things so I am going to use this up rather than bin it, but I use it on work days when I don't really care about my hair looking a little off rather than using it when I am going out for the night.
I would not buy this for myself again.
After seeing the 'Dazzling Shine' shampoo on an advert, I thought I'd try it out, what girl doesn't want beautifully shiny hair?
I went to my local supermarket to find that the shampoo was actually on offer for £1, even more reason to try it out! After struggling to find a decent shampoo to make my hair look lovely I was willing to try anything.
The shampoo smells amazing, the fragrance includes berry, tea and orange flower extracts, however I find it smells more like a nice fresh bundle of Apples. Which again, smells amazing and actually left your hair smelling like that, which isn't always possible with some shampoos.
It was easy to wash out and didn't leave my hair all tangled and feeling like it was going to take an eternity to get the knots out. Though I was pretty disappointed that it didn't leave my hair with the 'Dazzling Shine' that is promised on the bottle, it was no shinier than normal really.
I also noticed that after a day or so my hair started to become increasingly more greasy and lost whatever shine it did have rather quickly, thus needing to wash my hair again! I thought I may not have washed the bubbles out properly and decided to give the shampoo another chance. However the same thing happened again.
"Play up your natural gleam with this shine enhancing formula and you'll beam from ear to ear." Oh dear if only this was the case. Grease enhancing? Definitely.
I bought this conditioner from Asda with its shampooing counterpart as part of a 2 for £4 offer. I must admit i am a sucker for nice packaging, and as i browsed the vast selection of products on offer this one caught my eye, its bold lime green colour screaming out at me (and incidently goes with the decor in my bathroom). The plastic bottle is an irregular shape, tall and wide at the top and thins out at the bottom. I like that i can store this either way, upside or downside, and it won't fall off and batter my foot like other bottles!
Sadly, this is about all i like about this product. My hair has been looking very dull as of late, a combination of a new baby and a long overdue visit to the hairdressers probaby hasn't helped. I thought this would be the pick me up my hair needs. I was sucked in by the words "with shimmering pearl and rose extracts" `How lovely does that sound?
After shampooing my hair i proceeded to apply this conditioner, one of the initial things that bothered me is that the conditioner feels very thin, and i felt that i had to slather it on my hair to feel like it was coating each strand and that it was going to do anything. Secondly, i left the product in for a good 10 minutes because i felt that just putting this on and rinsing it straight off was a pointless exercise. The bottle says to just apply it and rinse straight out, but i just ignore this. (such a rebel i know.) I did like the smell of it though, very uplifting and i can detect the rose scent.
After applying a face mask and shaving my legs i decided to rinse the conditioner off. My hair did feel softer than usual whilst doing this but it felt like there was a coating on it so i rinsed it out for longer than i would usually spend.
Personally, i cannot and will not judge a hair product until i have done my usual blow drying and straightening routine. First impressions were good, detangling my hair ready for drying was definitely easier. However, while drying my hair felt almost sticky, like i had left some conditioner on it. As my hair got dry it looked limp and as if it needed a good wash already! Not the effect anyone wants after just washing their hair. After straightening my hair looked as flat as a pancake! Dazzling shine? I was more dazzled by my reflection which looked like i hadn't washed my hair in about a week...
I'm not sure why this conditioner didn't work for me. The bottle says it is for normal hair, which i suppose i have, but what is normal? My hair is of medium thickness and not overly greasy ( i wash it every other day) so i would have thought i would fit that criteria, i guess not.
I gave this conditioner a few goes which i think you have to do to be able to rate it honestly. Each time was the same, Grease galore yet somehow it had the ability to make my hair dry at the same time. I decided enough was enough.
I really would not rate this product as a good conditioner. I am not discrediting the whole line of herbal essences products as their split end protection line (the red bottles) is fantastic. As it was on offer i can let it go but if i bought this at its normal price i would hsve been dissappointed and very miffed. It does have one use though, it makes a FANTASTIC shaving cream for my legs and leaves them really nice and soft. So not a complete waste of money!
Thanks for reading:)
I bought this Herbal Essences Dazzling Shine Conditioner because it was on offer and I wanted to try it. My hair is long and has some damage and dryness on the ends so I am always looking for new conditioners to try and add to my collection. This is available in most chemists like Boots, savers and Superdrug, supermarkets, sometimes shops like Home Bargains and Poundland.
The packaging is very eye-catching and fun, Herbal Essences use bright and vibrant colours for their products. This is a green colour which definitely stands out on the shelf. The bottle is a curved shape and the lid is on the bottom which is useful for keeping the conditioner near the bottom when you start running out. This conditioner has a lovely scent, very fresh and fruity, the bottle says it contains berry, tea and orange flower extracts. The scent does stay on your hair for the rest of the day, it is subtle though.
The consistancy of the conditioner is a medium thickness, it isn't as thick as some other conditioners but it isn't watery or runny. I like the texture because it spreads over the hair easily but also gives you control over applying it and it doesn't drip at all. This glides easily through the hair and smooths and detangles as you're applying it. I apply my conditioner towards the start of my shower and leave it on until the end when I rinse it. When you're rinsing this out you can already start to feel the effects, those little tangles are removed and the hair is smooth and sleek. The scent really fills the room when you're using it so luckily it isn't a sickly smell, just very fresh and fruity.
Upon drying the hair, the shine is definitely noticable but I'm not sure about 'dazzling shine' as the name suggests. I am perfectly happy with the level of shine and I think maybe someone with straight hair could get dazzling shine with this as it tends to reflect the light better. The smoothness and shine make this conditioner very worthwhile. My hair is left easy to manage and it helps stop my hair twisting together and tangling. This doesn't leave my hair too heavy and doesn't give a greasy look at all even with the shine. It doesn't weigh my hair down but does add sleekness, I love how my hair feels after using it. My hair stays easy to manage all day after using this conditioner and I can still smell it on my hair at the end of the day.
The conditioner leaves my hair feeling smooth and soft and looking shiny, I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for those effects! It isn't the best conditioner I've ever tried but it's a great all-rounder and I give it a 4 out of 5 because maybe it could give a bit more shine.
~Fresh feeling shiny hair when using Herbal Essence~
I have bought and used this easy to use conditioner from the Herbal Essence range on many occasions as I find it works rather well on my hair. I like the soft and fresh fruity fragrance that the product has which leaves my hair nicely fragranced after having use the conditioner. The texture of the conditioner is good in my opinion, being neither too thick or thin. In my opinion this conditioner it is just thick enough to be handled without it slipping out of wet hands whilst in the process of washing and conditioning my hair.
I find that I need a 50 pence sized blob of this product in order to to be able to cover all areas of my hair reasonably well. Using more than this is wasteful in my experience as the results I get from the product are perfectly good when using this small amount of product, so I don't need to use more than that. I find that the texture of the conditioner makes it easy for me to massage it into my hair, with it giving a nice light coverage that smoothes and softens as it glides over the hair. The light green coloured conditioner doesn't permanently stain towels or clothing if accidently spilled in my experience and can be easily washed and removed from such items.
I tend to leave the conditioner in for a minute or so for general usage and for deeper conditioning I allow it to sit on my hair for an extra minute or so, which gives a boosted conditioned effect to dry or lack lustre hair in my experience. Once the conditioner has worked its magic I find it quick and easy to rinse away with some fresh clean water, which leaves my wet hair feeling soft and nicely scented. The makers of the conditioner say that the product has a serum infused formulation that is meant to moisturise and soften the hair and in my experience I feel that this combination of ingredients works for me.
As this conditioner is sold as being a Dazzling Shine product I would expect it to provide a certain degree of shine to my hair for it to be worthy of its product name and I am pleased to say that it does seem to leave my hair feeling soft and shiny most if not all the time. The degree of shine achieved when using this conditioner is quite light and subtle in my opinion, although I rather like that as I never feel that my hair is overly oily or has been thickly coated in the product in any way after having used it.
I would say that when my hair has been dried and styled it generally feels smooth and soft with a nice natural looking shine to it that I like. The soft scent that the conditioner has is never too strong or overpowering in my experience as it feels lightly floral and fruity, without being over bearing. Shimmer pearl and rose extract have been added to the product which may account for its nice fragrance and add to the conditioning properties. The product is made for normal hair and I would agree that it suits that hair type well enough.
~Product rating/ price~
I tend to buy the larger 400ml sized bottles of this conditioner as I feel they last well and provide the best value for money. A 400ml bottle of Dazzling Shine conditioner can often be bought for just under £2 when it is reduced to half its usual sales price, which I feel is reasonable for a reliable hair care product such as this one. I find that the results I get from this conditioner are generally very good as my hair feels clean, smooth, fresh and easy to style. The product bottles are a little tall in my opinion and can be easily knocked over when in use, however I have found them to durable. My rating for this conditioner is 4 stars.
