Advantages: Effective and smells beautiful

Disadvantages: Can be too heavy for fine or oily roots

I love the Herbal Essences range, and use their shampoos and conditioners most of the time. Some friends have remarked that the shampoos find them a little bit too strong and 'stripping', but my hair is quite fine and gets greasy, so I like the 'sqeaky clean' feeling that most of their shampoos leave you with. However, when it comes to conditioner, I like my hair to feel soft and silky - in other words to be able to tell that I've used them. I want something that makes it easy to get my comb through my hair afterwards, and if it smells nice, that's a bonus. Oh, and it needs to be cheap too! (I don't ask much!)

Herbal Essences Deep Nourishment and Shine conditioner ticks all the boxes. It comes in a large 400ml bottle (much bigger than most shampoos/conditioners) which lasts for ages, and is made from quite flexible plastic which means you can squeeze it to get the last drops out when it's nearly empty. It also has a handy flip cap which is easy to open and close with wet hands, and has a flat top so you can store it upside down to get to the last bits.

The large Herbal Essences products are usually around £2.99 or £3.25, but are often on 3 for 2 or BOGOF in supermarkets and Boots or Superdrug, so it's worth waiting for an offer and then stocking up!

This particular variety comes in a bright blue bottle with pictures of coconuts on, which is one of the ingredients advertised on the bottle, the other one being Hawaiian Hibiscus. I'm not sure how much of these are actually in the product, but the fragrance that hits you first is definitely the coconut! I can only describe it as smelling like a Pina Colada - tropical and yummy! This is one of my favourite things about the product, and unlike many hair products, the smell actually lasts, and is often commented on by my boyfriend and the girls in my office!

It's nice and thick in consistency, which means it sticks to your hair when you massage it in, rather than just running off your head. I usually leave it on my hair for a couple of minutes in the shower, but I think it works just as well if you rinse it straight away. The only thing I would be careful of is not to get too much near the roots of your hair, particularly if you have fine hair like mine, as it can make it a bit lank and greasy. However it moisturises my dry ends perfectly, so I concentrate on that area when I use it.

Once it's rinsed out, my hair feels instantly softer and silky, and is a dream to comb through. I can blow-dry it without using any smoothing serums or other products as it leaves my hair so smooth and manageable. I would recommend this product wholeheartedly as it is cheap, effective and smells gorgeous!

The ingredients are:
Aqua, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Glutamic Acid, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, EDTA, Hexyl Cinnamal, Sodium Chloride, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Propylene Glycol, Linalool, Limonene, Geraniol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citronellol, Magnesium Nitrate, Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis Extract, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit, Cocos Nucifera Extract, CI 42090, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.

Summary: I'll buy it till they stop making it!

Here's a brand of shampoo I really haven't got into, no matter how many times I watch desperate housewives.
