Advantages: Cleans well and smells nice

Disadvantages: None as yet

Herbal Essence from Clairol are probably better known for their frankly annoying adverts where users of their shampoo are so excited they feel the need to shout out "yes yes yes", in a mock orgasmic shower scene. They have recently launched a new range called "Fruit Fusions", which is a range of 8 shampoos and conditioners which are claimed to be "bursting" with exotic fruit extracts. In the makers own words, the fragrance from each bottle is "exhilarating" and captures the essence of a tropical paradise. I have to say I prefer the tagline of this advertising campaign..."just add H2O, oh, oh". Pretty bold claims for this new product I feel, so how do they stand up when you actually use the product......will my experience be fruity or will it just fall flat? I only ended up trying this out as there was a special offer when I was shopping. I bought a 200ml bottle and as it was on offer in Asda, I got this and the conditioner for £4.00. The range I chose was Brilliant Shine, as on there shelf it was that or Deep Nourishment. However looking at the range they do, I wished Citrus Lift for Fine Hair had been available. Brilliant shine is touted as being suitable for anyone with normal hair, but mine is fine and slightly greasy the day after it has been washed which does not help with the flatness of my hair!

Reading the bottle on my return home, I discovered the shampoo's main ingredient is pink grapefruit, which is complimented with verbena plant and bergamot. On opening the bottle, I was not immediately whisked away from my cold north east surroundings to an exotic paradise, and I certainly did not feel exhilarated. I thought the fragrance was nice but not so much so I had a strong emotional reaction. I washed my hair, and a small amount of the shampoo seemed to go a long way and made a good lather. I know that lather does not necessarily equal cleaning power, but it is something I find quite satisfying when washing my hair. Although my initial opinion was the fragrance was not totally positive, once I had washed my hair I decided that the fragrance was gorgeous, and especially because it lingers for a while after you have finished washing your hair. I didn't feel there was any residue left on my hair and it didn't feel heavy as some shampoos can do, which when you have fine flat hair this can be a curse.

I dried my hair as normal, and my hair did feel as if it had a little more spring in the roots, and I did not have to work so hard to prevent it being completely flat. However for me, the big success is that the next day my hair still felt relatively clean and I did not have to adopt my 2nd day ponytail which is a routine I have followed for a long time. Wash hair on day 1, style it and wear it down, but on Day 2, it is too greasy to consider doing anything other than scraping it back into a ponytail if I do not have the time or the inclination to wash it again. This is a great result for me, and this and this alone would be enough to make me choose this as my regular shampoo. If this product interests you, then you could get yourself a free haircut out of it. The bottles I bought had an offer for a free haircut, however the salons they use were not familiar to me so I have not pursued this, but I am sure some of you reading this could benefit from the offer.
