Clairol Herbal Essences Ignite My Colour Shampoo
Advantages: Nice scent, hair felt soft and smooth, cheap price
Disadvantages: Didn't create much shine or difference to colour, lack of volume to hair became fly away
On my Christmas list this year I had specifically asked for shampoo and conditioner. Because my sister in law is a hairdresser I knew that I would be getting (very) large salon size bottles of conditioner and shampoo from more expensive brands, so when my supplies of shampoo and conditioner ran out at the start of December I refused to buy myself large quantities of either product (especially as money was tight). So when browsing my local Asda I tried to look for hair products on special offer and not in large quantities as I only had to use for 3 weeks. Most of the deals were multi-buy deals however the Herbal Essence range was down to £1 per bottle of product so I decided to purchase from the Herbal Essence Ignite range. This included the Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo.
***Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo***
The description on the packaging of the Ignite my Colour Shampoo is "I'll ignite your colour with my vibrant formula with acai berry and silk extracts".
My hair is naturally mid brown; however it has been highlighted with mid and light blonde highlights giving it an overall light brown/ dark blonde colour. My hair also has some honey toned dark blonde highlights in to give it a slightly different colour therefore any product that can brighten and ignite and preserve my colour is welcomed. Because my hair is highlighted I do find it tends to be quite dry especially during the winter months. When buying hair products I like to buy shampoos that do not dry my hair out or strip the colour from it, but help to give shine and boost the appearance of my highlights.
You can purchase the Herbal Essence Ignite range including shampoo from Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's in addition to online from Amazon and Lloyds Chemist. Prices vary depending on special offers (most retailers seem to have special offers on the Herbal Essence range). Boots sell a 200ml sized bottle for £2.13 and a larger 400ml bottle for £3.47. I purchased my 200ml sized bottle from Asda whilst on special offer which cost me £1. At this price it is definitely a value for money shampoo and aimed at those on a budget.
***Application and Results***
The Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo comes in a bright pink plastic bottle. This is transparent bottle so you can see the shampoo inside of it. The bottle is curved in the middle and is long and thin with a flip top lid. I purchased the 200ml size however the larger 400ml bottle has the same packaging only is larger.
The directions for use on the packaging are "lather me to lushness, rinse and repeat". I have quite thick hair which is long (mid-way down my back) and I found myself using an amount just larger than a 50p piece size of the clear pink liquid. This was more than I would usually use for shampoo but because the shampoo is quite runny in consistency I found myself using more. The shampoo does lather very well and you end up with a lot of soapy lather. As you lather the shampoo there is quite a strong sweet berry scent which I like but has a very sweet feminine girly scent which I feel maybe a little too sweet for some and could be described as sickly. The shampoo is very easy to rinse out of hair and once completely rinsed I personally do no repeat and shampoo my hair again. I did feel that my wet hair after shampooing had a very squeaky clean type feel to it.
When I came to dry my hair (after using the matching conditioner from the Ignite range) I felt the berry scent was emphasized but I did not find the scent too sickly. The scent was still apparent on my hair once dry and I could smell the scent in my hair for 3-4 hours after drying.
Once my hair was dry, I was satisfied my hair felt clean however I do not feel that the Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo made any real noticeable difference to the condition or appearance of my hair. My hair did feel clean and had a soft and smooth feel to it but it did not have a real shine to it, nor did I feel that the colour of my highlights were given a boost in anyway; I just simply had clean looking hair that smelt nice.
I did feel although my hair felt clean because of the softness of my hair I didn't seem to have much volume to my hair. My hair was not lank or greasy but more flat and slightly flyaway and I found if I had been outdoors and came indoors my hair suffered A LOT of static which did not happen prior to using this range.
My hair did stay clean and I found I could wash my hair every other day rather than have to wash it daily. My hair dresser currently recommends doing so to ensure my highlighted hair does not get overly dry from heat styling, therefore I do feel this was a benefit of this shampoo despite it not really improving the appearance or condition of my hair.
From my experience I found the Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo to be simply satisfactory and average. Although at £1 for a 200ml sized bottle I don't feel I could have very high expectations for such a value for money product. My hair was left clean and did not get greasy quickly after using this shampoo and I found the sweet scent of berries very appealing. However I do not feel that the product lives up to the claims that it "Ignites colour".
After using this shampoo (and matching conditioner) for 3 weeks I noticed no difference to the condition or appearance of my colour treated highlighted hair. I do not feel the Herbal Essence Ignite My Colour Shampoo left my hair very shiny nor do I feel it boosted my colour. My hair was given a smooth soft touch however a little too soft which made it difficult to create much volume to my hair.
Cleans hair but causes no form of ignition or boost!
Summary: A satisfactory shampoo that didn't give much shine or colour boost
