Advantages: Gorgeous fragrance, lathers up easily and cleans your hair.
Disadvantages: Didn't particularly ignite my colour.
A good few years back I was a big fan of Clairol's Herbal Essences range of shampoo and conditioning products and used them regularly. Then Clairol decided to change the range and my favourite shampoo and conditioner was sadly no more. I tried the new Herbal Essences range but hated it. I even gave it a second chance at a later date and tried a different shampoo from the range, but again was left disappointed and so avoided it from then on.
However, a couple of months back I was in need of some shampoo and was shopping in one of the small Asda stores at the time, so I decided to grab some whilst there. Unfortunately, they didn't have much to choose from as not only was it a small store which only carries a small variety, they also didn't appear to have much stock on the shelves in the toiletries section.
With my preferred choices of shampoo not being available I was unsure what to buy, then I noticed this Herbal Essences Ignite My Colour shampoo on offer at just £1.75 for one of the larger bottles. I decided that if I was going to have to buy a shampoo I wasn't too sure about, then I wanted to pay the least amount possible and so the relatively low price was what swayed me to make my purchase. That and also the fact the shampoo smelled really lovely and reminded me of the old Herbal Essences range.
It is also designed for colour treated hair and as I colour my hair regularly, I liked the thought of my colour being 'ignited' by this shampoo. Despite the promises and the wonderful fragrance however, I did not think I would be really happy with this shampoo, but prior to actually using the product, the only thing I actually disliked about it was the bright pink colour of the bottle, as I don't like anything pink.
Herbal Essences state that Ignite My Colour will fire up the colour for coloured hair, re-igniting your vibrancy. Your colour will be sparked by the vibrant formula with Moroccan rose & passion fruit extracts.
The fragrance is indeed gorgeous and because of this, I was really hoping this shampoo would be better than my prior experiences with this newer range.
I have long hair and colour it regularly, as well as exposing it to hairdryers and straighteners and because of this my hair can become dull especially at the ends.
I strive to prevent my hair from becoming dull by having the ends trimmed regularly and using conditioners, intensive treatments and also a shine shock glosser by John Frieda and whilst all these things work well and I am pleased with the results, I am not against trying new products to combat dull-looking hair. I love the vibrancy of my hair when it has just been coloured and so the thought of igniting my colour using this shampoo was very appealing.
Squeezing some shampoo from the flip-top bottle is easy. The shampoo has a gel-like consistency and is pink in colour. As I applied it to my wet hair, it lathered up quickly without much effort at all, which was quite impressive and the fragrance is really lovely.
I liked the feel of this shampoo on my hair as I massaged it in. My hair instantly felt clean and although it didn't feel as smooth and moisturising as some shampoos, I was still pleased enough with it as I rinsed it out easily and my hair felt squeaky clean with no residue left behind.
I also used a conditioner after shampooing as I always do.
After drying my hair as usual, I was left quite happy with the results. It was certainly a big improvement on my previous experiences with the newer Herbal Essences range and I was happy to continue using the shampoo. The fragrance lingers on my hair for the rest of the day after using this shampoo too.
However, I can't say I have noticed any increased vibrancy in my hair and I haven't felt that my colour had been particularly re-ignited in anyway, but am quite happy with the results all the same and I have just continued to use a glosser to add vibrancy and shine to my hair.
With the price of shampoo increasing regularly it seems, then Herbal Essences is one of the better priced shampoos on the market and features regularly in lower price and 3 for 2 promotions etc and this is one I will continue to purchase from time to time. Overall I am happy to at last to find a Herbal Essences product which hasn't left me bitterly disappointed and is more like the old range I loved.
Summary: Didn't ignite my colour, but I was still left fairly impressed with the shampoo.
