Advantages: good value for money
Disadvantages: alliteration and rhyme :@)
Let's just say... I don't have great hair, it got a slight wave to it, is dry from the constant straightening and show it some drizzle and it does it best poodle impression. It is impressive but needless to say I am always on the hunt for a 'wow factor' shampoo. So far my hunt for the perfect shampoo has been lengthy, expensive and no cure for frizz!
Whilst doing my Tesco online shopping I came across the BOGOF (buy one, get one free) offer on Herbal Essences 'seductively straight so thought I would give it a go as I was feeling rather froogle. This product is made by Clairol.
~~~ The Product~~~
This product has been designed to have sex appeal! 'Seductively straight' 'Silk n'shine shampoo' is the name of the product. It has been made with Silk and pear extracts and claims to give 'seduction power straight to dry / damaged hair'. I'm not sure I'm keen on all of the seduction boosting properties this shampoo is offering, in fact I'm slightly scared but targeting my dry and damaged hair sounds good to me. The bottle I got was 400ml, although smaller bottles are available.
~~~ The Packaging ~~~
This is one sexy looking bottle, bright pink and curvy in all the right places (making it easy to hold and not drop when you are in the shower of course.). The plastic is ever so slightly see through allowing you a glimpse at what is inside. The bottle has a nice flush look to it actually, the green lid contrasts interestingly with the bright pink bottle (so much for pink and green, never to be seen) but its fun and eye catching and surprisingly I quite like it. The bottle is well labelled in white which shows up well against the pink and gives you all of the information that you need; it's going to make your hair straight and is for dry / damaged hair. The top is one of those that lays flat, you press down on the back and the front pops up to expose the hole that the shampoo can be poured from.
On the back of the bottle are instructions and a brief description of the product in a rather relaxed tone. In fact I can't resist quoting this straight from the bottle:
"Let's get straight to the point of luscious hair. Head straight for the Herbal school of seduction.
Lesson 1 - my rich formula, with silk and pear extracts helps tame hair into a sleek line of shine.
Lesson 2 - my captivating conditioner gets full marks for silk touch and gloss."
I promise I have taken that straight from the back of the bottle - those are the words that they use... believe it or not!
Whoever writes the words that go on the bottle deserves a prize for his skills with alliteration and rhyme! He certainly likes alliteration... a lot!!, in fact it leaves me wondering what the rest of the range is called "weirdly wonky waves" maybe?.
~~~ Using the product ~~~
Again, I can't let you miss out on a direct quote... its genius!!
"Work me into a luxurious lather and say 'oooohh!' then rinse and repeat (even the 'oooohh!' part)."
Well, let's just say I didn't follow the instructions to the letter! I did however apply it to wet hair and lather. This product has a lovely smell, sweet and slightly fruity, a bit like the packaging in general. It lathered up well and created a nice rich foam that really felt like it was doing a good clean. I didn't need to use much of the shampoo and it rinsed out easily, leaving behind a lovely smell.
~~~ results~~~
I actually really liked this shampoo, I used it without any styling products and it did an admirable job. My hair was soft and smelt lovely. It seemed to do a good job at reducing the frizz without making my hair flat or greasy; in fact my hair had a lovely shine to it after using this. My hair stayed looking clean and fresh all day and although my hair wasn't really put to the test, as it's been a nice day today, it is showing no signs of frizziness.
~~~price and availability~~~
Available from virtually all supermarkets and big chemists (boots, superdrugs etc)
400ml costs £3.40 but is often on special offer and is on buy one, get one free at Tesco at the moment.
~~~ overall ~~~
The wording is quite frankly so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh at their outrageous attempt to sell their shampoo using sex. I didn't know whether to feel insulted that they think women will be so naive that they will buy this thinking that it will give you such lovely hair that it will make you seduction powers irresistible. But to be honest I took it all as a bit tongue in cheek silliness, I think they have just tried a bit too hard.
This review seems to have turned into more of a review of the working on the bottle than the product inside but I just couldn't help it. I liked the shampoo, it's noting amazing, but fairly priced and effective. Not the wonder product I was looking for, but then I wasn't expecting it to be. It did a good job and I will probably buy it again. This product has a target audience in mind and its fun and girly, can't see my boyfriend nicking this one in a hurry so it gets an extra thumbs up from me for that.
Summary: not a bad job
