***Jerome Russell B blonde Highlighting Kit ***
**Hair Magazine Awards Winner of 2006**
** Jerome Russell Highlighting kit is a permanent colouring. It advertises maximum Blonding with natural shine. It is suitable for all hair types. It does say it may not be suitable for black or very dark hair, but it does cover Grey. It's claims are that it is a salon formulation of powder bleach and cream peroxide, and is specially developed to give you flexible shade control. B Blonde comes in an eye catching gold box, with a picture of a woman with the shade of hair colour the product promises to be. Written on the box is the information that it is for controlled highlights, and is suitable for all hair types.
** The contents in this box are: A packet of HighLift powder bleach. A plastic bottle of cream peroxide. A sachet of conditioning shampoo. A tinting brush. A development cap. Protective plastic gloves. Mixing bowl. Highlight hat, 2 hooks and a full instruction pamphlet. All the contents mentioned are of a good quality, and I was surprised how many things this box held, and that a few of the items are re-useable, which is a bonus. You will also need to hand, a clock/timer, cotton wool buds, old towels, and a good tip is to smear petroleum jelly around the hairline to avoid getting the skin stained. How the hair lightener works is it penetrates the inner core of your hair shaft. It then changes the natural colour pigment in the hairs structure. ~
** The first and most important thing to do before using a hair colourant, is to do a skin test. This will ensure that you have no allergies, or sensitivities to the product. So firstly as per instruction, you will need to wash and dry a small section of skin behind your ear, and with a cotton wool bud, apply a small amount of mixed cream to the prepared area. You then leave this on for 24-48 hours. Keep checking this area regularly for any signs of inflammation, or change in appearance of the skin. ie: Swelling or irritation, or anything else that alarms you. If you find any symptons, wash this area clean immediately. If on the other hand no irregularities occur, wash off after time stated. Keep the left over crème because you will be doing a hair strand test at the same time. It really is wise to do this, as once, I once had a bit of a shock a while ago, after dyeing my hair, I found it had gone a nasty shade of green! :O - Needless to say, I hadn't done a strand test :( So follow the instructions in the leaflet as to how you do this. Also follow the warnings supplied on the leaflet, as listed below.
------------
DO NOT
------------
• Do not use on recently bleached, tinted or permed hair.
• Do not use on eyebrows or other body hair.
• Not recommended for use during pregnancy.
• Not to be used on broken skin or an irritated scalp.
• May not be suitable for black or very dark hair.
• Keep this product out of the way of young children.
• It says you may need more than one box if your hair is thick, or very long.
**Well my hair is very long now, almost to my waist, but not overly thick, and I found one box sufficient. I think if your hair is extra thick you possibly would need two boxes. It also gives you a table within the instructions on how long to leave the mixture on the hair for development time, according to base hair colour and method you will be using. ie: Streaking, or full head application. So after preparing the mixture as per instructions, you are ready to start streaking your hair. You can either use B Blonde as a full head colourant, or as a streaking kit. I think we all know more or less how do do a full head application, and it is all in the instructions within the box. I am going to explain how to do the streaking process. ~
**Supplied in the box is the plastic cap, it is of a good quality, and can be used again if you wash it immediately afterwards. The cap is covered in holes, spaced in appropriate places, making it easy to pull the strands of hair through. It is also marked with crosses as to where you are to pull the sections through. You are supplied with 2 hooks, very much like crochet hooks with a little curved bit at the end. One is plastic for the thicker chunks, and the other is metal for the thinner sections. These make it easy to hook and pull individual strands through the holes in the cap. It's your choice as to how much hair you want to pull through each separate hole. It is a good idea not to make it too even looking, as this can look unnatural. Maybe pull a think chunk through in one place, followed by a thinner section through the next. You can get a very good effect if you try and plan using the crosses on the cap. If you only want a few streaks, you can judge this by using the crosses, and their paths. ~
**After pulling all desired strands through by means of the hook, you are then ready to apply the mixture. It recommends you start at the front of the head, through to the back, then finishing at the sides. So just smooth the cream mixture on for full head, using the brush if you want to, or just use your protected hands straight onto the sections you have chosen to streak. You then leave it on for the stated time, or less if you want the colour less intense. Then shampoo, and dry as normal. I used my GHD'S when it was towel dried, and the effect was lovely, very silky and shiny. ~ So that's about it. ~
** My Opinion **
I coloured my hair with Jerome Russell B Blonde a couple of weeks ago. - So how did I find it?- It's actually the second time I have used this. I was so impressed with it the first time I used it, that I bought it again. I normally buy different makes to try and get one that achieves a really pale platinum blonde look, but usually they tend to make my hair look quite yellow. This one however is extremely good and gives my hair a lovely shade of platinum ash blonde. My hair is naturally dark ash blonde and B Blonde covered this very well, and I ended up with the pale cool blonde result that I was after. I use B Blonde as a full head application, and there is an adequate amount to cover my whole head. It covered my base colour really well, leaving no patches or irregularities, just a smooth even colour, and it covered my roots brilliantly. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the contents within the B Blonde pack. The Plastic streaking cap is of a good quality, and could be used many times. Also the streaking brush is re-useable, as is the mixing tray. I found the cream and powder easy to blend, and it didn't give off that breathtaking peroxide smell which you can find with other products, though they do instruct you to use the product in a well ventilated area, which is only common sense. Always use the provided plastic gloves included as this will avoid drying of the hands or sensitivity to the bleach. The gloves provided were adequate, and did not split, though they were not of good enough quality to re-use. The cream is thick and does not run, which is as it should be, as you must not get this cream in your eyes. If this does happen you should splash lots of cold clean water into your eyes at once, and then seek medical help immediately. I left the cream on for the recommended time which is supplied on the table according to base hair colour and method. ~
**The results were brilliant, so good in fact I had a bit of a shock to see the lovely pale Nordic colour of my hair staring back at me from the bathroom mirror. It was just what I was after, and so pale and silky. I used the shampoo provided. It is a nourishing, conditioning shampoo with natural extracts to promote shine, it was a 10ml sachet, and gave adequate amount for a good hair washing. It is important to remove all traces of the processing cream, and the shampoo worked into a good lather, and removed all the residue. My hair felt very silky after using the conditioning shampoo, and I felt no need for further conditioning. I found the instruction booklet easy to follow and in large enough writing to actually be able to see it. It is printed onto a large sheet, with various languages provided. All in all, I would recommend this product to you 100%. Some crème bleach products can be very drying to the hair, and you can end up with candy-floss head, but B Blonde leaves your hair very silky and in very good condition. It compares well against other brands, and I have been searching for a long time for this exact colour. The price is very competitive, and I felt at £3.99 it was an excellent buy. ~
To compliment this product Jerome Russell also do B Blonde lightening spritzer- Shampoo in Blonde- Intensive conditioner- and instant Blonding effects spray in: Gold- Copper- and Platinum.
There is a trouble shooting section on the leaflet which gives probable cause, and suggested remedy should you encounter any problems, and all ingredients and contents are listed to the reverse of the box. There is also a 'Precaution and warning' list which should be read before you begin. ~
