My natural colour is a dark blonde, which I had been dying a brighter blonde for about 3 years. Last year, I dyed my hair dark brown and had kept it fairly dark since then.
Recently I got bored with that, and wanted to return to my blonde colour (without paying salon prices), I read every review available and finally settled on Jerome Russell B-Blonde Hair lightener, for medium to dark hair.
I followed every single step correctly, and my strand test turned out a beautiful bright blonde, so I was fairly confident.
After applying the bleach mixture to my whole head (except the roots as these must be done last), I waited for my hair to get to the "dark yellow" stage, and then quickly applied the mixture to my roots.
Wearing the plastic hair cover provided, I checked my progress every 15 minutes as stated in instructions.
After an hour and 10 mins, My roots turned a frightening shade of white, (yes white), while the rest was still mostly yellow, with patches of brown and orange.
I washed my hair immediately (for fear that it would snap off at the white roots if further processed). Covered my head in intensive conditioner and left it to dry for a few hours.
The top of my head was white, while the rest of my hair was dark, So picking up the instruction sheet provided with Jerome Russell B-Blonde Hair lightener for medium to dark hair, I checked the trouble shooting guide. Which told me to apply more hair lightener.
So, in trusting this advice, I covered my hair once more in the product (not touching anywhere near the roots this time), Left it for an hour and a half, the maximum time, shampooed my hair thoroughly and checked the colour. Roots- White, Rest of hair- Yellow / highlighter orange.
I used Jerome Russell B-Blonde toner champagne blonde (it goes on as a purple/blue colour to counteract against yellow/orange), Followed instructions to a tee, and washed it out. No change in colour.
So today my hair is a beautiful blend of luminous orange, banana yellow and snow white on top (think Kate winslet in eternal sunshine of the spotless mind).
And after speaking to a hairdresser this morning, il still have to fork out nearly 150 euro, with no promise of it actually looking "normal", (and also a haircut to remove the damaged hair). My appointment is in 2 days time, the hairdresser had to take a skin test and strand test, to check whether my head could actually take any more abuse.
Let's just hope I still have hair on my head come Friday.
