Advantages: cheaper than going to the hairdressers, works well

Disadvantages: a bit smelly

Lately I've been on a bit of a tight budget, not knowing if my husbands job is safe, has made me become more of a spendthrift than ever.
I have Strawberry Blonde hair naturally, but since I was 18, I have bleached or dyed my hair. I think some redheads, get teased at school, so they tend to dye it. That was the case with me anyway. I was getting fed up of being called "Ginger Minge".

Over the years of bleaching my hair to look like my old favourite Billy Idol, I decided 6 years ago to tone the colour down to a more natural blonde.
I let most of the bleach grow out and let the old black roots come through, yuk.
As my hair was becoming darker and slightly ginger, I panicked, was this really me, or do I prefer the Blonde look.
I decided that I felt lifted with blonde hair, for some reason I felt drab being Strawberry Blonde, well ginger to me. All the hairdressers loved my natural colour, and couldn't believe that I wanted to colour it.
It's different when you have got it yourself, unless you are a confident person, the teasing got to me at school.

After many years of bleaching peroxide white, I decided to just have streaks, they were painful but not as harsh. I don't look like a skunk, there's just enough to lift my natural hair colour and make me feel alive again.
The trouble is it was costing me a fortune every 6 weeks or so. I know £36 isn't expensive in areas like London, but around here, it's a small fortune. I then found another hairdresser who charges £23, so that was better for my bank account.
Last week though, I was in desperate need of my hair being highlighted, and I was a bit skint. Also the thought of my husband being unemployed, well that's if he is, was daunting, I daren't even spend a tenner on my hair. So the nest best thing was to buy something to lift my hair colour.
That's when I came across Jermome Russell B Blonde Lighten up Shampoo. <
br>It cost me £2.99 which was affordable, I just hoped it would work.

Late that night, I sat in the bath and rinsed my hair with the over the bath shower and applied the shampoo to my wet hair.
I applied it evenly and worked it up to a lather. The smell wasn't very nice, not your normal run of the mill shampoo smell, it smelled as though there was peroxide in it, which there was.
I left it on for about 5 minutes as I was scared of overdoing it and looking like Billy Idol again, well Iam 40 now. It tingled my head slightly but wasn't as half as uncomfortable as the real bleach/peroxide in the hairdressers. For a lighter look you can leave on for 10 minutes, which I did later on in the week.
The first attempt was a slighter light colour, it made my hair look shiny once I had dried it.
You could see a few blonde streaks being lifted from my faded hair. I was quite pleased.
The next time, I left it on for 10 minutes and I got better results, the streaks were even whiter than ever.
I don't know what my hair would look like if I didn't have streaks. It seemed to lift the old ones, and give them life. If I didn't have streaks in before, and I just had natural hair, I can't imagine what this product would do to your hair. Maybe it would give it that "Sun IN" horrible look, or maybe a lovely light blonde colour, who knows?
I never let my hair get back to it's natural colour, there's always some old streaks in there somewhere.

After washing your hair, rinse with warm water after you feel as though it is light enough. I would do 5 mins or less at first, as the effects could be too drastic, everybodies hair is different afterall.
After rinsing, I applied a good conditioner and towel dried my hair. I left it to dry naturally as I always do after just colouring my hair. It felt lovely and shiny afterwards, it didn't leave it at all brittle.
It's only recommended for
Fair to Light Brown hair, I wouldn't ry it if you had black hair. Be careful if you have red in your hair, as this is one of the most hardest colours to lighten, sometimes it can go green or very yellow.
Even though, I do have red in my hair somewhere, I haven't seen it for years properly, maybe it's left home by now, I did manage to make the product work.

The ingredients in it are;

Aqua
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Hydrogen Peroxide
PEG-150 Distearate
Sodium Chloride
Phenacetin
Parfum
Panthenol
Phenoxyethanol
Sodium stannate
Phosphoric Acid
and many more unpronouncable words.

The bottle is 200ml and costs me £2.99 from my local beauty shop. Not sure if you can buy it else where.

Hope this hasn't offened natural red heads, it's only my preference to be blonde, I actually like it on other people, strange aren't I?

I understand you perfectly. Recently, due to the same reasons being "very skint" I coloured my hair on my own as well. Much cheaper I agree but the only problem was that my colour is black which is not so good for the bathroom. Definitely good for the bank accounts though.

Why is it that all hairdressers like ginger hair hey?
My mum [hairdresser] always says that she wishes we [sister and I] had red hair. I tell her I'll ring Childline!!

Grea t op BTW way ..... When I'm in a 'highlighting' kinda place I always head for the JR bleach and peroxide.

Lisa :)
