Advantages: smells nice - but so do lemons., clean fresh packaging

Disadvantages: doesn't do anything!

There are two products in the beach blonde range - Sun Streaks and Lemon Lights. The first is for dramatic results so I tried Lemon Lights - the subtler one of the two (to be on the safe side).

Lemon Lights is a semi transparent yellow gel, packaged in a sexy clear, wide tube. It contains real lemons and claims to accelerate the highlighting effects of the sun. Lemons have been known for this sun lightening for some time - so I presumed this gel would produce even better results without that nasty crunchy wet look.

Sadly not.

Unsurprisingly the gel smelt of lemons, if slightly sweeter which was nice. I decided to apply it in sections to give a streaked look and touch up my roots from grown out salon highlights.

I thought that repeated application of a subtle effect would give me better control of when to stop the lightening process as well as giving me the option of several shades by using the product in different, overlapping places each time.

The gel went on OK and wasn't too sticky but did make my hair look greasy until it dried.

I followed the instructions to the letter. I was on holiday in Malta in hot sunshine all day so I can't imagine a better place to get results.

As it dried, it went hard and crusty - just like lemon juice would and made my hair quite tangled - particularly coupled with the sea air.

I had been quite sparing on the first day as I didn't want a shock after a day out in the bright sun.

After day one there was absolutely no change, so day two I was much more generous and slathered in on in thick streaks. My hair looks doubly greasy and dried in solid clumps.

Still no change.

I persisted with it for the entire 11 days of my holiday - determined to get some return for my investment. I hoped it would save me a trip to the hairdressers on my return.

At the end of my trip, I can honestly say - I can't see any noticable cha
nge at all. Bearing in mind I expected to see some lightening anyway without the product - I am really disappointed.

I know it was meant to be subtle but after 11 days of solid sun and 30 degree heat you'd think I'd notice some variation?

If this is what I get for £5.50 - I think I would have been better off sticking to lemons. That would have been a whole lot cheaper!

Perhaps if I'd stayed out for the whole season and burnt the rest of my body to a crisp in round the clock sun exposure - I might have achieved the results promised - but frankly that's not for me.

Sorry John Frieda - but that's a big thumbs down for Lemon Lights.
