Advantages: Gorgeous smell, brings out highlights, leaves hair soft
Disadvantages: Doesn't add much shine
Although, as you'll know from my reviews, I'm really into my beauty products, when it comes to my hair I'm much more of a laid back girl - my hair is very long having not been cut in over 6 months and pretty damaged, due to lots of blasting with the straightening irons. I know I should invest in a really good quality shampoo, but what with the length of my hair and then my bank balance sometimes that's just not practical! John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette Shampoo is a mid priced shampoo that I come back to again and again.
The Brilliant Brunette is for natural, colour treated and highlighted brunette hair and comes in two shades - Chestnut to Hazlenut and Chocolate to Espresso - being a dark haired girl, I go for the Chocolate to Espresso. The shampoos are suitable for use on either natural or dyed brunette hair. It contains silk protein and cocoa bean extract, which should leave your hair soft and shiny. The bottles come in 250ml brown plastic tubes with a flip top lid on the bottom. I love the design of these as you can always get every last drop out as all the shampoo slides down - plus the flip top lid is easy enough to negotiate with wet hands in the shower.
The shampoo itself has a lovely golden brown colour and the consistency is lovely and smooth, feeling really silky in your hands. The smell is gorgeous - a lovely waft of coconut which can be smelt on your hair even a day later - and it lathers up nicely on wet hair with no problems rinsing out.
I find this shampoo leaves my hair lovely and soft and really clean. I find with lots of cheaper brand shampoos I get lots of build up on my hair, so the first wash gives the impression of giving a great effect but my hair ends up very dull but this leaves my hair feeling really clean and soft. It also seems to bring out my natural highlights which saves me forking out for a highlighting job at the hairdressers! As to it's volumising claim, well maybe I'm not the right person to confirm this as my hair is incredibly thick anyway, but I can't say I noticed a difference. However, I don't find that this shampoo makes my hair any shinier - if I really want shine, I do need to invest in a top quality shampoo like Kerastase or Aveda. But for the price you pay for these, I do think they are vastly better than Herbal Essences or Pantene, which are slightly cheaper. These tend to last me around 2-3 months, washing my hair around 3 times a week (I have very long and thick hair so go through shampoo pretty quickly!)
These are normally priced at around £4 each, but are very often on offer in Boots on a 3 for 2 offer so make sure you buy then and get your money's worth! John Frieda has an entire range of products for Brunettes including conditioner, serum, hairspray and other styling products - as well as another range for blondes.
Overall this is a tricky one - I don't adore this shampoo, but it is probably the shampoo that I buy more than any other - best in its price range is probably the fairest way to describe this!
