Advantages: Leaves my hair looking shiny and multi-tonal
Disadvantages: Can be expensive
I have already reviewed a couple of products in the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette range as they are my favourite hair care products.
Brilliant Brunette shine release shampoo is my favourite shampoo. The only other one I use is Pantene, and Brilliant Brunette is my 'treat' shampoo as it can be quite expensive at £4.50 - £5.00 for a 250ml tube.
Because of the expense I do try to buy it when it is on offer, as most supermarkets, Boots and Superdrug often have 3 for 2 offers or lower price offers on the John Frieda range.
The shampoo itself comes in a 250ml tube with handy flip top lid, which I do prefer, as always drop the lids in the shower if not, as they are too fiddly!
It is specifically for brunettes, although there is also a range available for blondes and redheads. There are two varieties of this shampoo: - volumising and moisturising, and I have used both, liking them both equally. This volumising shampoo promises to thicken your hair whilst giving it shine. The shade is chocolate to espresso for darker brunettes.
On the packaging it also states that it 'Optimizes the effects of light for flawless dazzling brunette hair and fills in and mends porous areas of hair strands to create a more uniform internal structure for optimal light reflection.' Well that may sound a bit technical but I can say after using this shampoo it does reflect the light and optimizes the different tones of my hair.
The shampoo has a cocoa butter smell which I do like, though I admit it is not a favourite fragrance of mine, and I have used better smelling shampoos, but the effect and results I achieve when using it far outweighs the smell.
It lathers up quite easily and has a smooth, creamy consistency which I like. I lather once then rinse. I then use the Brilliant Brunette conditioner.
After drying my hair it feels soft and shiny, and I notice when used regularly, quite a difference to my hair. It does look multi-tonal and does seem to thicken my hair slightly.
I have tried other shampoos which are designed for brunettes and haven't thought much of any of them, and certainly none of them have made my hair feel or look any different. In fact some of them have made my hair look quite dull!. So although Brilliant Brunette may be more expensive, it certainly lives up to its promises, so in my opinion it is worth the extra money.
If you do buy this when it is on offer then it works out at around the same price as other shampoos so well worth a try. A favourite gift I receive at Christmas is the Brilliant Brunette gift set, which is available from Boots in their 3 for 2 gifts range. Included is handy travel sizes of the shampoo and conditioner, as well as shine shock glosser, hairspray or intensive conditoner. I keep these to take away on holiday with me, and I have also seen these sizes available to buy separately on Ebay.
If you are a brunette I strongly recommend this shampoo to you. Try it and see the difference.
Summary: My favourite shampoo.
