Advantages: Controls frizz well

Disadvantages: Expensive

I have shoulder length, natural, tightly curled hair, which tends to become frizzy and dry. I have tried lots of hair styling products, including both hair mousse and gels, but I have to admit that the 'Frizz-Ease Curl Controller' gel has been by far the most effective product on my hair.

I do not use any of the other 'frizz- ease' products. The gel can be a little sticky in your hands when applying, but there is absolutely no stickiness or greasiness left on your hair when it is applied. It covers the hair well. For my shoulder length hair, I tend to use about 4 - 5 pea sized blobs of gel and this covers the area well.

I then comb my hair through with an afro comb and leave it to dry naturally, which usually takes a couple of hours to be fully dry. I have been able to go out after about three quarters of an hour after applying the gel without it looking too obviously wet. I tend to use my fingers to 'comb' through my hair whilst it is drying.
This produces nice, naturally looking curls, which are not tight.

I have never used a hairdryer to dry my hair using this product, so I cannot comment on the results.

The effect of the gel and the appearance of the curls gradually become less obvious after a couple of days and the curls tend to drop out. This does not leave my hair frizzy, however, just less defined curls.

I find my hair is sometimes difficult to comb through and can become tangly, but to be honest, I'm not sure if thats the effect of the gel or a result of the texture of my hair.

According to the description on the gel, the product also contains sunscreen. I have used the gel on holidays abroad and have not had any adverse effects from using it when in the sun, although to be fair, I do wash my hair everyday when on holiady abroad, which is more often than I would do at home. The size of the gel (150 ml) is also a handy size for packing, unlike some larger containers of hair mousse.

My husband tends to use this gel also and his hair is very short and straight!!. Put it this way, he never complains about it, so I guess it is fine for his use.

My only criticism of this product is that compared to some other hair mousse / gels, it is quite pricey, although the 150ml product does last for quite a while.

I would definitely recommend this product if you have tight curly, difficult to mange hair, as it works a treat on mine and I would be very reluctant to change to another product. I only hope that John Frieda continue to manufacture it!!

Summary: A really effective gel to control frizz and create long lasting curls.
