Advantages: Nice packaging and product does give a nice shine
Disadvantages: Frizz plunged to new depths
Browsing again in Boots (no shock there!) I came across the Frizz Ease range on offer. With New Years Eve vastly approaching I've spent a fortune on clobber and make up for a black tie evening dinner dance so I thought what the heck in for a penny in for a pound and plopped a bottle of this shampoo (and conditioner) into my basket and slightly groaned that yet again I was on the spend on stuff I really don't need (think I need some kind of therapy in 2008! lol)
For the purpose of this review, I like the other review on here am only going to review the shampoo as I'm sure there are still people out there that don't use a conditioner after shampooing (really?!) or people that have a favourite conditioner from another range or use leave ins or whatever.
The Packaging Of Frizz Ease Straight Ahead Daily Shampoo.
I have the 250ml version but its also available in 50ml size. It's in a white recyclable tube with a silver screw top lid to the bottom. Its white in colour with the branding to the top and tells us on the front that it smoothes, shines & aligns hair for instantly easier salon straight styling; nourishes, softens & hydrates. On the back of the tube tells us that it's created with salon expertise....
This revolutionary style-activating daily shampoo is perfect for all hair types of dry, frizz-proned hair. With it's unique straight - defining complex, it penetrates the hair, taming frizz for instantly easier salon-straight styling. It tells us the directions (not gonna tell you how to wash your hair!) and the ingredients. Also gives details on how to contact the John Frieda people for help and advice. All in all it's nice packaging, looks like it was bought in a salon and isnt crass or cheap looking. A man or a woman could purchase this!
I have used this product alone and later added my leave in conditioner as I do once a week and along with the matching conditioner. As I said earlier I am reviewing this as a stand alone product as it does state it can be used on its own.
My Experience...
Ok I used it in the shower. Usual way. Wet hair, apply rinse and repeat. Firstly the smell is very pleasant, very salony with a mild hint of fruit. It isn't heavily scented which I prefer as I cant stand cheap smelling shampoos that smell like a rotting fruit bowl. I don't need a shampoo to be heavily fragranced and I do find sometimes that highly fragranced products on my head does make my scalp itch from time to time. The liquid itself is white and slightly iridescent and it isn't that thick. When you unscrew the lid and just hold the bottle (without squeezing it) it does gently trickle out. A bit of a problem when it is new and full as you have to be quick to stick your hand under to catch the flow. Saying that it doesn't come flying out of the bottle at a hundred miles an hour or anything like a lot of cheaper brands.
Less is more with this product. The size of a 50p blob is enough for my shoulder length hair and as you apply it, it does feel like silk and it's like using a decent conditioner. I can See why if your in hurry you could use this on its own and not use any conditioner. I find with most products I really do have to use some conditioner or I get a dried out squeaky noise and a horrible rough feeling when I put my fingers through my hair after. This did not do that. When I dried my hair with a towel after I immediately put through a wide toothed comb and my hair had one small tug which isn't bad but saying that I don't normally get that however I do normally use a conditioner lol
I blow dried my hair on cool with no added product as tonight I'm not feeling well (got a chest cold boo hoo) and I just wanted to spruce myself up with minimal effort. So I was really seeing only the shampoo results.
The result....
I sit on the fence with this product.
It promises to smooth, shine and align hair. Yes to shine, it was lovely. Smooth no. My hair wasn't straight when I got out the shower my curls were actually more defined which for me isn't a bad thing cos that means its minimised the frizz I have. When dried my hair it was very lively and full of bounce but you'd never know I used a anti curl product lol.
Even using the corresponding conditioner it doesn't stop the waves and curls. Did it minimise frizz? Absolutely, 100% not. (with or without conditioner of any kind)
In fact after usage my hair had more fly aways than usual and instead of my usual frizzy ends my frizz started closer to my scalp than ever before. I know I don't have any split ends at the moment cos I visited my hair dresser only a week or so ago and I told her to make sure they were chopped off and when style was finished I told her she hadn't got them all to her reply of 'I bloody well did you cheeky madam that's ya frizz' lol So I would argue the point of giving me smooth hair. It did for some hairs not for others.
Now as I stated that was my process for tonight but I did say I have used the conditioner and I have used straighteners etc and the result is much better particularly if you use other products in the range. What is good about it is that it all works togehther extremely well, if not particularly cost effective and it's is all very time consuming. However I must say that my hair using these products does feel very clean and soft (if overly so at times) and the intial out lay of money for everything you need to achieve a good look is high I think but the products do last ages and ages.
The other good benefit of these products is that hair doesn't feel greasy or weighed down at all which I find unusual for straightening products.
Final Word...
I think this range is good if you take the time and money to work through the range to find the right combination of products best suited to you. Personally I think the range is hard work and I'm a simple kind of lass lol
I know people with curls or naturally straight hair that literally rave about this range. I think its ok for people with not too many hair problems. If you need a miracle this isn't it and me, I'll be sticking to my Lee Stafford range and try to learnt to stop being unfaithful lol
As a base for straightening hair this isn't for me I wasn't overally impressed!
I got mine in Boots for £4.48 on a bogof offer. Can be found in all good supermarkets and chemists though and do keep your eyes peeled for offers!
Summary: I wouldn't advise anyone to go out of their way to purchase this product. it's nothing special.

- 04/02/08 I tried this shampoo and it didnt really feel like shampoo as it didnt really lather. It did make a minor difference to the straightness of my hair, but not as much as the product name implies. Nice review... |
