Advantages: lightens hair, fair price, does as expected, great results

Disadvantages: can make hair dry if you don't condition it regularly

Over the years my hair has been a variety of colours yet I tend to favour being blonde the most! My natural hair colour dark blonde with lighter shades running through it but in order to get my hair any lighter realistically I have to reach for the peroxide. Even though my hair is thick dying it constantly takes its toll and I would much rather have healthy darker hair than it being super blonde but dry and brittle!
I had used highlighting kits and even used the old fashioned lemon juice and sunshine to achieve a lighter colour but both of these were rather time consuming and results varied. So when I was shopping at boots and saw the John Frieda Lightening Spray I had to try it.

I love John Frieda products and normally purchase when Boots have their regular 3 for 2 offer on haircare as it can be a little pricey. However, it takes a lot to make me loyal to a product and use it exclusively so I often rotate this brand with others. I always come back to John Frieda though because the products can normally deliver on their promises.

The product comes in a bright yellow spray bottle which you simply spray onto your towel dried hair where you want the hair to be lightened - for example if you want to touch up your roots target it there or spray all over and brush through for all over lightness. Then simply blow dry and style your hair as normal. The product admittedly has a chemical smell but this does not claim to be a natural product so that's to be expected, it is not exactly unpleasant. The lightening effect builds every time you use the product so at first use you will notice that your hair is lighter but not shockingly so!

I would recommend using either a really conditioning conditioner before applying the product or a heat protection spray/serum on towel dried hair as the lightening spray will draw moisture out of the hair. The spray is a part of the go blonder range which you can use in conjunction with the spray or separately. The shampoo is also designed to visibly lighten hair whilst the conditioner will mitigate any damage/dryness caused by the lightening process.

This product is intended for those who already have blonde tones in their hair and will not work on brown or darker hair due to it not being a strong colourant.

I really like this product as it is easy to use there is no mess or mixing hair dye. I see it normally priced in shops at around £6.99 which is a mid-range for a hair care product but as Ive said it is included in some store offers (which is when I purchase it!). I feel this is a fair price considering that women spend A LOT on going to the hairdressers and hair dye and this product can be used when you want a touch up on colour but don't want to fork out for the hairdressers! I try to be low maintenance as possible and this is definitely a go to product when you want to boost your fading hair colour or a slight change. It does exactly what it promises to do you just have to be careful and especially look after your hair by conditioning it so it does not dry out.

Summary: Great product does exactly as intended!
