Last year I was lucky enough to be sent a box of John Frieda's updated range of Luxurious Volume products, and one of my favourites is his Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Fine to Full Blow Out Spray, but I have found that my short hair cut only really needs the Root Booster.
Packaged as the rest of this range, in a pretty turquoise blue bottle, the description on the front says that this is 'For Fine Hair'. I don't have fine hair - each individual strand is thick, but there are less strands than there used to be. I don't know whether this is because of ill health, medications, or simply the ageing process, but I hate the fact that my one wonderfully full crowning glory now needs expert help.
With this product, I feel I have found that help. You should apply the spray to both the underside and the top of the hair, concentrating - as the name suggests - at the roots. The style also acts as a heat protectant. There is a useful little video on the John Frieda website that shows you how to use this product, and this video shows you how to use the two products together. I think anyone with short hair will find that this Root Booster will suffice. I always take the trouble to blow dry my hair, to give it as much volume as possible - I wouldn't want to use this product and then leave my hair to its own devices
I am delighted with this Blow Dry Lotion, and apart from my beloved Toni & Guy Boost It Mousse - which seems to have been discontinued - it is by far and away the best product I have found for keeping my hair looks and feeling its best. The product has a fairly pleasant fragrance, and does not leave my hair feeling sticky.
I have taken a quick glance at some online reviews, and a few people have commented that it doesn't work particularly well on their long or curly hair. As I explained, I have my hair in a short cut, and all I can say is that it works brilliantly for me.
The Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster is currently on sale at Boots for 5.99 (sorry, Dooyoo don't seem to want pound signs), with an offer of Buy Two for 8.00 on selected John Frieda hair care Superdrug also sell it for 5.99. If you take a look online, you may be able to find it cheaper at other retailers. There is also a mini travel-size spray available (25ml as opposed to the full size of 125ml) - and Superdrug have this for 2.00.
I have long blonde hair which I love, but it's always fine and limp due to the length of it. No matter what layers I have put in it still doesn't give the depth I want so I am always trying new volume-inducing products to help. I have tries a great deal of products with some working and some not and as I was looking to try something new I decided to try the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Blow Dry Lotion.
This promises to "Thicken the hair shaft to boost volume and give fullness on even the finest hair", so it sound promising. It claims to have the added benefit of being a heat protection and supposedly prolonging the health of your hair so it seemed to answer all my requests. It is sold in a blue 150ml bottle with a gold lid and spray applicator. The writing on the bottle is also mainly in Gold, and while this is a nice look it can make it a little difficult to read on the smaller sections of writing. Overall the bottle looks nice and quite expensive. Price wise the bottle is £5.79 from Boots which may sound expensive, but you do not need much to get a result.
To use they recommend using all the Luxurious Volume Range to get the best results then use after you have washed your hair. On towel dried hair spray the thickening lotion all over the head, but concentrating on the roots, then blow dry and style as you would normally.
The spray is very easy to use and the nozzle is flexible and easy to depress even with wet hands. The lotion comes out in a fine spray that isn't sticky or greasy and it applies to the hair nicely. When you hair is still damp you can't feel you have any spray in at all.
As you blow dry your hair I found the spray made my hair feel a little knotted which I was not very keen on, but by the time my hair was fully dry and styled this knotted feeling had gone. As for volume, well it was there, the spray had definitely worked and I had some more volume around my roots and through my hair. I was quite impressed with the initially results as it seemed to work better than other products I had tried. However as they day wore on the volume did begin to fall out and by bedtime that day my hair was back to natural. If I'm honest although this did initially disappoint me, I then figured that the majority of the volume had stayed in most of the day so I couldn't really complain
To summarise, the thickening blow drying lotion works - it gives all over volume that lasts most the day, it protects the hair from heat so you don't need a separate heat defence spray and feels natural in your hair once it has fully dried. I am very happy with the spray and will defiantly be buying another bottle
The product made by John Frieda is a Blow Dry Lotion, which gives Luxurious volume without leaving hair feeling sticky. The product contains heat protection polymers and Panthenol, which is known to strengthen and protect hair. Unlike other volumizing sprays/lotions this one does not contain alcohol, which means hair stays soft. The product itself comes in a blue flat-like bottle with a clear plastic lid. The bottle itself is made from blue plastic and states on the front that it's from the Luxurious Volume range. The bottle comes in the one size which holds 125ml of the lotion. Although this product is called a lotion you dispense the product by using the pump spray bottle. This means it gives an even distribution across the hair and is easier to apply. The product was part of John Frieda's first invention and won world acclaim for its thickening results.
The product is available to buy in stores such as Boots, Superdrug and local Supermarkets. Prices may vary, how-ever I bought this in boots for £5.79, but they currently have John Frieda products on offer, which is 3 products for £10. This is only on selected items in the John Frieda range.
***USING THE PRODUCT***
On the back of the bottle it recommends using the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Shampoo & Conditioner for best results. I how-ever, didn't bother buying the shampoo & conditioner in this range so just sued my normal shampoo and conditioner. I wrapped my hair in a towel for a few minutes so it wasn't dripping wet and then got ready to apply the product. Using a wide toothed comb, I combed my hair and parted it as normal. I started to spray the product onto my hair concentrating on the roots and lifting up section of my hair to ensure the under-sections also got coated in the spray. The product has a slight perfumed smell to it, which is quite nice and not at all un-pleasant. The spray itself looks a milky colour and you can't actually see the product once you have spray it into your hair. For Great body and volume they recommend that you blow dry your hair upside down which is exactly what I did.
After I had blow-dried my hair I flung my hair back and looked in the mirror. WOW! This spray definitely gave my hair volume and body. My hair looked so much fuller than it was before. I did give it a brush to tidy it a little, as I had bits sticking up all over the place. How-ever I still had plenty of volume in my hair and it felt light and bouncy. I was expecting the spray to make my hair a little greasy or dry or maybe a little bit stiff even. I was really please, that the spray did neither of these things. My hair stayed looking great all night and the volume stayed in my hair, without me needing to apply hair-spray or anything else to it to keep the volume held in. When I got home, I did brush my hair as I didn't want knotty hair the following morning. The brush went straight through my hair and it didn't feel knotty or dry. I was expecting a little residue to come out of my hair, how-ever there was nothing. After applying products, I often find the next day I need to wash my hair again, how-ever I just applied some hair-spray and this helped to give my hair volume again and it didn't look dry or greasy.
This product is the best blow-dry lotion I have ever used which has given my hair fantastic volume and body without making my hair feel dry or weighed down. The product is really easy to apply, due to the spray nozzle on the bottle and it smells good too. Although the scent of the product doesn't last in your hair, this doesn't really bother me too much anyway. The product was kind to my hair and didn't leave it feeling dry or brittle. I would highly recommend this product to other's who want volume and body in their hair. This is a product I rate highly and will continue to use. I give this product the full 5 stars!

I have fine, long hair and am always looking out for products to give my hair that extra something.
I always blow dry my hair so it seemed sensible to try a product that adds volume while drying.
I bought this product as part of an offer on John Frieda products, boots often have these shampoos on 3 for 2 or as part of their £5 off voucher scheme. I have noticed that tesco have also starting running offers; 3 for 2 or two for £6 and it is during one of these offers that I bought the blow dry lotion along with the volumising shampoo.
You use the product by spraying onto your roots before drying - it couldn't be simplier. I also tend to underuse products rather than overuse as I don't wash my hair every day to then load it up with so many products its looks greasy. I have found that 4 - 5 squirts is more than enough but you may need more, or less, depending upon the texture of your hair.
You then dry and style as normal.
I have found no product build up from using this but whether that is because of the quality of the product, or because I wash my hair every day or don't over use it, I couldn't say.
I have found that my hair does look to have more volume after using this spray but only really noticeable to me. It seems to be a bit more lifted at the roots and although this settles as the day goes on, it is a definitive improvement on the 'stuck to my head' look that I would otherwise be sporting if I didn't use these products.
I have used the spray as part of the volumising range and on its own and I have found it effective without the shampoo, although a touch less so.
Although I have been happy with the spray, the next time I am buying I will look to see what other volumising products are available - this isn't on my 'can't live without it' list.
When I'm lucky enough to have a night out with the girls, I like to look my best. I plan everything, from my outfit, accessories and make-up right to how I'm going to style my hair. Sounds sad, but a night out with the girl's is a rare treat at the moment so I like to make every second count.
I love the 'big' hair look, and while my hair is very long and thick it does lack volume. I spotted John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Blow Dry Lotion on offer ages ago in Superdrug for £4.99 for a 125ml bottle. It promised to thicken and give lift from the roots, and give high rise style! I was hooked just from reading the back of the bottle.
It is part of a range by John Frieda called Luxurious Volume and other proucts include shampoo, conditioner and other styling products. I've not tried the others in this range, but have used other John Frieda products in the past, all of them amazing.
The bottle is light blue in colour, and has instructions on reverse, it comes with a pump dispenser which I like, rather than an aerosol. What also attracted me to this particular product was that it offered thermo protection, which to you and me, is also a heat defense product to avoid damage from hairdryers, straighteners and other heated styling appliances. My hair, even though I consider it to be greasy, can become dry from overuse of heated appliances, so offering heat protection is a big selling point to me.
It has a nice light perfume, which is quite sweet and floral, so makes it a pleasure to use. The spray is quite good also, I find it easy to get the product directly where I want it to go without it ending up all over the place.
It's really easy to use. After washing and conditioning my hair (it recommends using the shampoo and conditioner in this range) I like to give it a bit of a towel dry before applying this spritz. Begin by spraying this lightly all over the hair, then concentrate more product directly at the root area, making sure that hair is adequatley covered in the lotion to maximise results.
I like to tip my head upside down and give it a good hot blast from my hair dryer on the highest setting possible for a few minutes. I then let my hair cool for a few seconds before I tip my head back up and continue styling and drying. I like to use a medium sized thermal round brush to get some serious volume going on in the root area. I blast each section then allow to cool. I also like to set the top and crown area of my hair in massive velcro rollers, give a little spritz of this lotion then allow to cool while I do my make up.
The results are amazing, it gives tonnes of volume and thickness to my hair. My hair does feel as if there is product in, but not in a bad way, you just know that there is something in there, doing its thing. It doesn't weigh my hair down like some other products tend to do, it just makes it feel really big and bouncy, just the exact result I'm looking for.
The effects last really well too. Just imagine a girls night out, from wine bar, to club, and my hair still looks big and bouncy. I always get comments from friends asking what I've had done, and they always say it looks really nice, a bit like a 'Cheryl Cole' do.
Would I recommend this product? Yes, definitely, this is now my volumising product of choice. It really does what it promises to do, smells good, and the price is pretty good also.
If you want big hair girls, get Luxurious Volume blow dry lotion, it's fabulous!
