I bought a small can of this John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening hairspray after trying my friends and realising that it was just what I needed as my hair isn't as thick as it used to be and doesn't seem to hold in place as much. I will always choose a firm hold hairspray as I find that anything less just won’t hold my hair as it is quite thick and strong and although I hadn’t had this particular one before I have used various other John Frieda products and always found them to be very good.
To use I will style my hair and then spray the can about eight to ten inches away and then spray it in short bursts until I am happy that the areas I need to fix are covered. As I wear glasses if I leave them on when I apply the spray I will shield the lenses with my hands as with all sprays it can leave a residue on your glasses when it dries. It has quite a subtle smell which I like as I find that some of the cheaper hairsprays really have a strong smell which seems to last for ages.
I find that this spray dries quickly after you have sprayed it but you do get a few seconds to maybe scrunch your hair which is what I use it for, or to quickly restyle a section with your fingers. A good thing about this spray is that it doesn’t feel sticky or tacky when it dries and it looks completely natural which I like. I find that it also brushes out easily at the end of the day and I can do this for a few days before it needs washing unlike some other sprays which you just can’t get your brush through. John Frieda claim that this hairspray lasts up to 72 hours but I have always washed or restyled it in this time so I can't confirm that it actually does. This spray also just seems to just evaporate when I do brush it out and I don’t get any flakes or bits flying around.
I really like this ultimate fixation hairspray and would definitely buy it again. It definitely gives my hair a lot more volume and makes it appear thicker even if I only use a small amount, so I do recommed it if you need a bit of oomph for your hair.
This is a thickening hairspray from John Freida. The product claims to hold fullness all day with a light spray and the product is a salon formula. I was given this product as a gift set for Christmas, in the set was the matching shampoo and conditioner but they have long gone leaving me with just the full sized hairspray.
The packaging is quite standard for a hair spray, a tall relatively thin canister with an atomiser to release the hair spray. The bottle I own has a light blue colour and a see through gold tinted lid on the front is the name of the product and its claim and on the back there are instructions and directions for use in several languages plus safety information and manufacturer details.
You can purchase this product (different packaging now) from Boots for £5.49.
I think this hairspray does a pretty good job, I must admit I don't use hairspray as much as a lot of lasses I know because I tend to have my hair just simple and straight but for nights out or when I need a bit of oomph I've always got a couple of hairspray brands nearby. This hairspray exits the can evenly and one spray covers a large area of hair. There is no residue left on the hair as I have noticed can happen with some hairsprays and there is a sort of fresh smell to the product. The hairspray has very good hold, it's not a hairspray for somebody who wants a more flexible style as it creates a very rigid hold on the sections of hair. When I backcomb and add volume to my hair for nights out sometimes this hairspray performs extremely well it holds my style for the majority of the night even through dancing and heat however it doesn't reach it's "24 hour" claim. I find it hard to believe any hairspray could hold my thick hair in place for 24 hours to be honest. I think this product is great for ladies with long and quite thick hair, it's supposed to be a volumising hairspray and whilst it might be worth a try for ladies with thinner hair I just feel as though it might be a bit harsh, but definitely worth a try!
Overall I really like this product, it has lasted me ages because I only reach for it for nights out and I feel it performs very well. I wouldn't ever pay over £5 for a hairspray though but would appreciate the product as a gift again, I have to remove one star I feel for the products longevity considering it claims to last for 24 hours but other than that it's a top product.
John Frieda are well known for making a large range of hair care products including shampoo, conditioners and styling products such as mousse, sprays and other products. Their range can be purchased in stores such as Boots, Superdrug and local supermarkets.
~ THE HAIRSPRAY ~
The thickening hairspray is part of the Luxurious volume range which comes in blue coloured packaging. The hairspray is salon formula and claims to lock your hair style for up to 24 hours. The product also claims to give your hair more thickness, body and volume. I have flat hair and often like some volume in it, so I regularly try out different products to achieve this look. I don't have long hair so it should be quite easy for me to get some kind of volume how-ever my hair is very flat and limp and previous products I have tried such a mousse and spray's haven't really worked.
The hairspray comes in a light metallic blue can with a clear plastic lid which covers the nozzle is which the hairspray comes out. On the front it states that the product locks in style and is a thickening hairspray. On the back of the can there are directions for using the product in a number of different languages. It also has a list of ingredients and states that the product extremely flammable. The design on the can is very simple; how-ever I find that this stands out as I know the blue coloured packaging is for the Luxurious volume range, so I can find this product easily when looking for it in my local boots store.
~ PRICE/AVALIABILITY ~
I purchased this from my local Boots store when it was on offer with other products on 3 for 2. The product will cost you approximately £5.79 for a 250ml can of this. As far as I know they don't do smaller cans of this spray. You may also find this product in Superdrug and local supermarkets; how-ever prices may vary.
~ USING THE PRODUCT ~
Directions on the can are as follows: For best results, wash hair with luxurious volume shampoo & conditioner. Hold can 15-20cms away from the hair and spray evenly on finished style.
I have to admit, when using this product I have never used it with the Luxurious volume shampoo and conditioner. I use my normal shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair which isn't part of the john Frieda range. I styled my hair as normal, which included straightening it. I like to have volume in my hair, especially when I go out for a night out on the town so I was hoping this spray would do the trick. I held the can approximately 15-20cms away from my hair and sprayed lightly over my hair. I then used my fingers to ruffle my hair slightly to help give it a bit more volume. The hair-spray does have the typical hair-spray hair, but not too over-powering like other hair sprays can be. I did notice if you spray the product too close to your hair this can make your hair feel slightly wet/damp. After I have ruffled my hair slightly with my fingers at the roots, I did apply a little more to ensure that the style would stay and I would hopefully have volume all night.
~ RESULTS ~
When I finished styling my hair I had noticeably more volume to my hair which made it look more glamorous. My hair didn't feel stiff or sticky and it didn't make my hair look dull either. I normally pop my hairspray in my bag when I go out into town, how-ever I didn't take it with me this time and the can was too big to fit into my bag anyway. The smell of the spray disappeared within about an hour. After a few hours of being out, I popped to the toilets and had a look in the mirror to see how my hair was holding. Sure enough when I looked into the mirror my hair still have volume in it, and the style was exactly how it was when I left the house. I did ruffle my hair slightly at the roots again, to give that little bit of extra volume, how-ever I was very pleased with how the product fixed my hair. My hair stayed looking great all night until I got home.
~ OVERALL OPINION ~
I only really purchased this product because it was on offer, otherwise I probably would not have bought it. I'm glad I did buy as it's what I've been looking for, for my hair for a long time. The spray not only fixes my style but gives my hair volume and thickness without it feeling sticky or stiff. I was also surprised that the product brushes out easily without leaving any residue in my hair. The product is long lasting and lives up to its claims. I have to give this product 5 out of 5 stars as it does exactly what it claims to and is long lasting and makes even very flat, limp hair thick and full of volume. When I run out of this product I will be buying it again and I highly recommend it to others.
Over the Christmas period I was frantically trying to sort many things out. First off I wanted presents for family and friends of course, then I needed a few bits and pieces for myself because I was going to my mates pub in Weston-Super-Mare for New Year and beyond and wanted to look my best of course!
One of the things I did want was nice looking and glamorous hair! I hate my hair as it's uncontrollable (much like it's owner lol) and my friends daughter is a trainee hairdresser and promised to make my mop look gorgeous so I purchased lots of hair care products in advance so she could use them on me.
One thing that is a problem for my hair is adding and holding volume. I straighten my hair to rid it of kinks and frizz and sadly although it's really mega shiny and healthy looking it really does become limp and lifeless so I chose products that would help thicken and volume my dead looking hair!
250ml light blue cylinder can with an aerosol dispenser to the top of it and a clear lid to the top of it to protect that. On the front of the can I'm told that it is John Frieda Collection 'London, Paris, New York', Luxurious Volume Thickening Hairspray which locks in style for up to 24 hours and that it is a salon formula. On the back of the can other information includes being given directions for use (For best results, begin with Luxurious Volume shampoo and conditioner. Hold 15-20 cm from hair. Spray evenly on finished style), warnings and ingredients are listed as is the size (as I've stated already) and contact details for John Frieda are given. Nice enough, no nonsense can this is but it's a nice enough and certainly informative enough too.
This hairspray is simply really lovely! All you do is style your hair as you would normally then hold the can of spray at arm lengths from your hair and gently and lightly spray evenly over your hair to hold it in place of course.
It goes on rather wet which is why you need to hold it at a fair distance away from the hair and move gently around whilst holding the button.
It has a delicate fragrance to it which is really none distinctive and suitable in my opinion for both men and women to use if desired as not only is it light in fragrance but it loses it's fragrance completely after half an hour of being on the hair anyway.
Not only does this feel light and unsticky on the hair it gently coats the strands adding shine that is really natural looking but apparent. You can't feel it and the hair remains flexible and still feels very fresh and clean.
If you want to use it as a volume spray feel free! It holds ever so well as or you can use this to 'fix' your style of course and holds it neatly in place. It keeps strands in place without dragging your style down and it doesn't make greasy hair greasier or dry hair drier at all!
It brushes out with ease as well and all in all I really think this is worth the price it costs totally. I like the way it really doesn't weigh the hair down and I can add volume that stays for hours into my hair without it feeling like I've tried to! A great product for us fine haired ladies and gents me thinks and it's totally recommended from moi!
