Advantages: Quantity for the price, ease of application, even coverage and the richness of colour.
Disadvantages: Not the colour as stated on the box.
So when I first heard about the Foam Colour Hair Dye from John Frieda I was excited to give it a go and was expecting fantastic results. I had tried John Frieda hair products in the past and had always been pleased with the results so I was sure this would be great. Overall, this product does have many advantages over other conventional hair dyes out there on the market, but for me it did have one big drawback.
To start, I have long thick curly hair so this product is great as you get so much of it! No need to worry about running out of dye or having to squeeze the bottle to make it go just a little further. I believe I only used about half of this myself and my hair was saturated with the stuff just to ensure it was evenly covered. This makes it good value for money IF you have long hair like me and would usually need to buy two packets of normal hair dye to do the job properly.
The application of the foam dye was also easier and less tricky compared to most other hair dyes, and once it had been applied it could be lathered up to make one big foam after massaging it in which did not drip or flick anywhere. The smell also seemed more pleasant to me than many other dyes I have used before.
Now the only downfall, which is quite a big downfall to me, is that on my hair it did not in any way come out the colour it stated on the box, yes it was a very pretty colour nonetheless but it was not the colour I chose. My hair is very porous as it's curly and therefore it does soak up colour easily making it usually go darker than what any dye I've used states it will, but I am used to this and almost expect it. For example, I may dye my hair a medium brown and it will come out a very dark brown.
However, this did not just come out a darker version of the colour stated on the box, it came out a completely different colour altogether. I was dying my medium brown (slightly sun highlighted) hair the colour 'Golden Brown' which instead came out a rather dark plum kind of colour. Like I said it was a rich colour that was shiny and had covered evenly, but was just not the golden brown I had wanted.
After a few months I thought maybe I had got a dodgy packet that had the wrong dye colour inside and so thought I would try the John Frieda Foam Colour again, but this time opted for the 'Light Golden Brown'. Still this did the exact same thing and was basically the same colour that came out before and yet again I had tints of a rich plum/brown in my hair. I haven't tried any other colours in this range since but I wonder if it is just these two colours that have not been mixed right or if I will get the same results happen with whatever colour I choose from this John Frieda range.
Summary: Great product but they need to get there colours mixed right and then it would be perfect!
