Advantages: It really does bring out highlights, smells nice, and leaves hair in good condition unlike toners

Disadvantages: on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for!

I am a real hair-dye infatuate, and my naturally mousy hair has annoying red tones in it which means that unless I bleach the hell out of it, I frequently end up with yellowy (or worse, sometimes orangey) blond bits between the nice highlighted strands. In an effort to combat this I have tried every specially-formulated 'blonde hair' shampoo you can think of, and I hope to review them all, but I will start with John Frieda's Colour Renew as it is one of the first I used, and I have to say it does a pretty good job!

Firstly I should point out my hair is highlighted, not all-over bleached, so it works best on the lightest bits of your hair (the darker bits might go slightly more ash-coloured but that's the extent of it). You don't need a lot of this shampoo as it is a fairly dark purple shade - purple being the colour that will cancel out the yellowness in your hair. I find it best if you lather up, and then pile the hair on top of your head and leave it on for a while - maybe 5 minutes or so. This just makes the effect more vivid.

Once you've washed it out and dried your hair, you'll notice that the lightest blonde strands will go pretty much white. I can imagine if your hair is very light blonde all over this will be a pretty spectacular look! On my hair it makes my highlights look fresh and smells nice and is soft and silky. I also use the conditioner from the range, which is not as strong as the shampoo but you can leave it on for longer to extra-condition your locks.

I think this shampoo, and Daddio by Lush, are the two best I've used for adding white tones to blonde hair and really bringing out highlights! I love it!

Summary: A brilliant shampoo for blondes - it will revitalise your look!
