I regularly use products from the John Frieda hair range, especially from the Sheer Blonde collection as my hair has been dyed blonde for many years and I love the results that they give. I don't use hairspray everyday but when I go out I like to curl my hair and use the spray to help hold my curls in place.
The product comes in a yellow spray can with a white plastic see through lid. It is slightly different to the product picture displayed as the look of the range has been updated. The John Frieda logo is displayed at the top of the spray can in black letters and underneath it says 'sheer blonde' also in black letters. At the bottom it tells you it is crystal hold hairspray suited for all blondes. I love the look of this product, it is very modern and sleek and looks good on my dressing table. On the back of the spray can it tells you a bit about the spray, gives the directions of use, lists the ingredients, gives some warnings and gives the can size (250ml)
The product is in the form of a clear spray. It has the usual hair spay smell to it but it is definitely not overpowering as I have found some sprays to be. It gives a really fine spray when used which is great as it gives nice even coverage and does not release too much spray. Shake the bottle before use and pull off the plastic lid to reveal the spray release. Put your finger on top of it and push down to release the hairspray. You need to make sure that you hold the can upright 20-25cm from your hair and spray evenly.
- Suitable for all blondes
- Delivers lasting hold
- Non dulling formula that keeps blonde shimmering and bright.
- With UV filter
Price and availability.
The product is available from beauty stores, some supermarkets and on line. I purchased some last week from Tesco priced at £5 for 250ml but Superdrug currently have it on offer at £4 for the same size.
I really like this product and I am impressed with how long lasting it is. A while ago I went to a wedding and curled my hair in the morning, popped on some spray and my curls stayed in place all day. I love how it adds a little shine to my hair too without it looking greasy. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with blonde hair.
When I decided over 6 months ago that I wanted to go blonde and made the long hard journey in going from brunette to blonde I made sure that I had all the blonde hair care one could need. In order to keep blonde hair looking healthy it does need a lot of up keep especially if you have your hair coloured blonde and not natural. Of course there are plenty of products out there specifically for blonde hair but one brand I like and trust is John Frieda.
John Frieda is a brand specifically known for its hair colour ranges generally blonde, brunette and red heads. The hair care products are made for those with both natural and coloured hair and are all designed to keep your hair colour looking as fresh, bright and healthy as possible. One item I bought was the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Crystal Hair Spray as not only was it reduced in my local Morrisons but I use hair spray regularly and thought it would be ideal with my newly blonde hair.
** What is it? **
The John Frieda Sheer Blonde Crystal Hair Spray is part of the John Frieda Sheer Blonde range and has been specifically formulated to keep your blonde hair "shimmering and bright". It not only helps to provide a flexible hold but doesn't leave a yellowing colour on your hair and won't dull your hair once styled. John Frieda advise that it is ideal for those with natural, colour treated and highlighted hair so making it quite a versatile hair spray for blonde hair.
** Packaging **
The hair spray comes in a tall, very pale yellow coloured aerosol which matches the other John Frieda Sheer Blonde complete with the logo and product information on the front. The aersol on the back has information on the product itself such as how to use, ingredients and warnings which are all pretty standard. The hair spray has a simple snap on colour matching cap which is easily removed and put back on.
** How to use **
Now it is all pretty straight forward as it is just like using any other hair spray so not rocket science. It is best to be held about 20-30cm away from your hair or specifically the region in where you want to spray it on as spraying too close will result in too much hair spray all in one place which won't look great and your hair won't be easy to style. It has a really fine mist which is nice as it is lightweight and doesn't have a stickiness to it.
I tend to use the hair spray when finishing off my hair in the morning in the bid to keep a few stray hairs tame as well as helping to keep my style especially if I have tried to go for the chic curls look or even when my hair is poker straight a quick spray helps keep those fuzzy ends tame and sleek.
** What I Think **
I really quite like this hair spray. It has quite a nice, delicate aroma compared to other hair sprays I have used in the past and it doesn't feel heavy when it is on the hair. It does have a non-sticky formula and I can easily say that it doesn't feel sticky at all in fact when you have applied it you can't feel it is even on your hair which is great as it really does give a light and flexible finish to your hair. According to John Frieda they use "ultra-light polymers" which help produce a flexible hold which "allows easy shaping with lasting staying power" and this is completely true.
Once the hair spray has been applied my colour still looks lovely and blonde without causing any dulling from the spray which is nice as some sprays can darken hair but this manages to leave my hair lovely and blonde. It manages to keep my style for quite a few hours before it really could do with touching up but that's fine as most hair sprays I have come across need a bit of help after a few hours. It really does give a nice, natural looking finish without compromising on the blonde shade.
Overall, I really like this hair spray it provides my hair with a lovely touchable finish which is just what I want and my blonde hair colour is looked after and protected. My hair doesn't feel sticky after using nor does it feel weighed down instead it has a flexible, supple finish which is perfect. Definitely a recommendation for all those blondes out there!
** Useful Information **
Brand: John Frieda
Price: From about £3.50 onwards
Availability: Pharmacies, supermarkets etc
Hairspray is like chocolate to my hair - it craves it! With it I can create volume and keep it that way for a number of hours but without it my hair gets withdrawal symptoms and lags flat and limp. I don't usually stick to one particular brand of hairspray as my hair needs changes during the seasons, in the summer I want it looking glossy and healthy but in the winter I need some help to fight against the cold winds and rain of London town.
Having said that, I recently noticed that my blonde highlights could do with some awakening but without the bleach damage! I have been using John Frieda Sheer Blonde shampoo and conditioner and found them to be brilliant, so on my weekly trip to my local Superdrugs I noticed the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold Hairspray and decided to give it a go!
The bottle itself is gold in colour with a black band circling the top just below the John Frieda logo, the rear of the can is descriptive of ingredients and warnings if you wish to read them. You can purchase the 250ml bottle for approximately £4.75 or the travel size version of 50ml for £1.99, the prices might seem a little steep, however if you use hairspray on a daily basis it works out a great price for the amount of product! Mr Frieda claims that this hairspray "delivers lasting hold and pure shine in one spray with a non dulling formula keeps blonde shimmering and bright." When I first bought this I was not too sure of the concept of brightening my hair, however I am used to the John Frieda range and have been surprised by them on many occasion!
I have been using this hairspray as my 'go to product' when styling for over two months now and I really love it! The aerosol can is really easy to use with the spray dispersing from the white press cap in a fine mist. It does not cause my hair to become sticky, greasy or hard and holds my style for hours on end. I am not sure about the brightening bit but it sure has not made my hair dull in any way! The UV filter reassures me that my hair is not going to get sun damaged so that's an added bonus.
Crystal hold is exactly what it does, although real crystals do not appear when you spray it (much to my disappointment) it does give a very fine and indistinct shimmer but nothing too over the top or bordering on tacky. I have recommended this to many of my friends who all agree this is brilliant, and do not worry if you don't have blonde hair - this works for all - even my boyfriend had a cheeky spray of it!
Available at Superdrugs, Boots, Wilkinsons, selected Supermarkets, some online make up stores, Amazon and eBay - you won't regret it!
I actually have dark hair now as you might have seen from a previous review, however for years I had blonde or highlighted hair. During this time I won a John Frieda Collection hair kit for blonde hair (Sheer Blonde it was called) This consisted of various John Frieda Sheer Blonde hair treatments including the Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold hairspray, hair spray is something I use on a daily basis and with the promise of brightening my blonde highlighted hair I was keen to give it a go.
The Sheer Blonde hairspray comes in a completely gold bottle, it has a black band around the top with the words John Frieda Collection , London, Paris, New York written in white lettering. The main part of the bottle is taken up with further writing including the words Sheer Blonde Crystal Hold (written in black) and Shape and shimmer hair spray Holds and Finishes, this is also written in a slightly darker gold than the bottles itself. The hair sprays promise of brightening natural, colour treated and highlighted blonde hair is written in very small black writing at the bottom of the bottle, this is a little hard to see from a distance. The back of the bottle in covered in further information such as the ingredients, warnings and directions of use. All of this information is written in black writing which is very clear and easy to read should you wish. The bottle has a small white aerosol spray on top which works simply by pressing it, it distributes the spray evenly in a find mist, this is covered by a slightly transparent lid which pulls off and pushes back on very easily.
As mentioned the spray comes out of the bottle in quiet a fine mist and sprays evenly onto your hair, it does not have a chemical smell to it but has what I would describe as quite a flowery smell which when first sprayed is quite strong, it is not unpleasant and quickly wears off, it is just the initial smell which is a little too strong. When applied to the hair I was quite surprised at how wet my hair felt in places, other hair sprays I have used in the past have left my hair feeling totally dry. Despite this however I did find that it dried extremely quickly and did not leave my hair crispy at all, so damp hair was something I could cope with for a few seconds. I usually brush my hair after spraying it to evenly distribute the hair spray and to smooth my hair down, I never have it tied up but instead use the spray to tame any frizzy or wispy areas, by the time I had brushed my hair it had completely dried. As for the 'hold' of the spray I'm not too sure what Crystal Hold is supposed to be but I was very pleased with the appearance of my hair after using it, it looked sleek and smooth with no wispy bits left from straightening so for me the hold was perfect, as I have said I do not tie my hair up so cannot comment on how good it would be for this purpose but for what I need it for it was just right.
The second thing I was keen to test with this hairspray was whether it really did brighten my hair colour, to be honest I cannot say I noticed a huge difference really, I think it did keep my hair looking shiny for longer whereas some hair sprays can dull the colour, but as for actually brightening it, it didn't really look much different compared to after washing my hair when it has that just washed look. I was a little disappointed at this but I was impressed with the hairspray generally so did continue to use it.
The warnings which come with this hair spray are pretty much standard and consist of keep out of direct sunlight, do not smoke during use or until hair is completely dry, do not pierce container, avoid contact with eyes and keep out of reach of children, all common sense really. The other main warning is about solvent abuse again a standard warning on all aerosol cans. There is a large symbol on the bottom of the bottle indicating that this product is very flammable and should not be exposed to temperatures over 50 degrees due to the pressurised container.
As I have mentioned I won my John Frieda Sheer Blonde hair spray as part of a set and got a 50ml bottle however I have had a look in my local Boots at this product and it cost £4.89 for a 200ml bottle, personally I found this a little pricey for hair spray, my usual hair spray is much cheaper than this, had it made a real difference to my colour then I would have considered buying it more regularly however as it did not make a difference to the colour of my hair and really only did what my usual hair spray does it is not something I would buy on a regular basis.
Overall I would recommend the John Frieda Sheer Blonde hair spray as it is of a good quality and does what I want it to, however it does not make a huge difference to your hair colour and for me is a little bit too expensive especially as it does exactly the same as my regular hair spray which is a lot cheaper for the same sized bottle.
My most indispensable hair product is from the John Frieda Sheer Blonde range, so I decided to try out some of their other products to see if they're as good. The first one I bought was this hairspray.
It costs £4.89 which I think is a pretty good price for a decent hairspray as I usually spend much more than that. This one is designed specially for blonde hair to give hold and keep it looking bright and shiny. The packaging looks good and is easy to use. It's an aerosol spray with a pull off lid.
I find this spray really easy to use because it gives a good even spray and it doesn't block the nozzle like a lot of hairsprays do. You can get a good even coverage without using too much of the spray, and it dries quickly. It doesn't smell as chemical as most other hairsprays I've used and it is lightly fragranced with a soft flowery smell.
This spray doesn't feel at all sticky or dry stiff, it just gives a nice flexible hold. It's not a maximum hold spray so it won't hold if you do a lot of styling, but for natural styles it's more than sufficient. It feels really light and doesn't weigh down my fine hair at all, and it still feels really soft and not like it's being held in place by hairspray. It keeps my hair from going static or getting fly-aways even in humid weather, and my style holds and looks fresh all day. It brushes out easily without leaving you looking like you have dandruff.
It adds a lovely shine to my hair without being over the top or looking greasy and it definitely leaves my blonde hair looking it's brightest and best. Overall it's a very good spray which I'll be buying again.
This hairspray is part of the John Frieda collection of hair products which are specially designed for blonde hair whether its natural or colour treated. Its called Crystal hold. This hairspray claims to brighten and hold your hair adding shimmer to the colour. With non-yellowing ingredients which dry clear to add shine to blonde hair. While sunscreen contained in the product helps proctect from UV damage to your hair.
The packagaing of this spray is of good quality, and looks posh enough to leave on your bathroom shelf. Its a 250ml can of spray which is Gold in colour with a clear plastic lid. Listed on the reverse of the can are all the ingredients and the warnings about it being a pressurised container so must be kept away from sunlight.
**My Exerience of the product**
I have used this product for a few years now as ive have found it to be the best of the shelfs! It sprays out very evenly and widely so you can cover your hair easily and quickly. The smell does smell quite strongly of alcohol so make sure your spraying this in a well ventilated area, but it doesnt last too long so doesnt bother me too much.
The spray holds my hair great, i spray it on once in the morning and it holds my hair all day no problems. Which is great for me as my job is very phsyical so i need a spray that is going to hold well. After work i take my hair down and the spray brushes out leaving me with lovely soft shimmering hair. Unlike many sprays that leave your hair dull and lifeless.
I use this everyday on my hair and the colour of my blonde stays looking bright and in great condition. One can normally lasts me 7 weeks using it daily.
**The price and availablity**
You can find the John Frieda hair collection in all major supermarkets like Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys. Chemists including Boots and Superdrug. Ive found the price ranges from £3.80- £4.80. Boots and Asda often have deals on the John Frieda range where you can buy any 3 for 2. Which is when i normally stock up on my hairsprays!
I did use this on a regular basis. The only reason I don't now is because I can't find it in my local Tesco's and I won't go out of my way just for hairspray.
I have fine, dry, blonde hair (coloured) so this is the perfect spray for me as it is gentle on your hair, has great hold for fine hair and it doesn't discolour your hair if it is quite a light blonde as some hairsprays can make your hair look darker and appear more yellow than blonde.
It comes in a gold tin, and is about £4.50. I quite like the smell of it as it doesn't get in the back of your throat like some others. It lasts me about a month as I used it every day.
It is by far my favourite hair spray and you can buy it from most retailers selling health and beauty products but like I said I am struggling to find it at the minute.
The just for blonde range is fantastic there is a product to cover every hair type and my favourite product is the serum I think it is called spotlight glosser and it really does make your hair look like gold. John freida certainly knows what us blondes want to make the most of our natural or coloured blonde hair.
I would recommend this to any blonde who wants to improve the condition and look of their hair without paying professional prices.
This product costs 4.79 and is available in most stores such as boots, superdrug, some larger supermarkets. The price tag is a bit large, but if you use hairspray on a daily basis I would suggest this as it doesnt ruin your hair like some, and you dont need much to keep your style in place.
The packaging is quite classic, with a gold metallic aerosal can and plastic cap, similar to the loreal packaging.
Its explanatory to use, but simply style your hair as usual, and hold the can around 10cm away from your hair. The smell is quite refreshing and doesnt smell of alocohol like some. Also the feel of it is not at all sticky and can be easily brushed out. I find with some hairspray it can be hard to wash out, or brush out if you want to restyle, but with this its fine.
I would recommend this hairspray for anyone with blond hair, as it adds a nice shine and makes hair look healthy.
I got a bottle of this John Frieda Sheer Blonde crystal hold hairspray from Boots for £4.79. They're also available at most supermarkets, Superdrug and online for around about the same price.
John Frieda has other styling products available in the Sheer Blonde range but there are also other collections for redheads, brunettes, curly hair etc.
This blonde styling range is meant to help bring out the best in blonde hair; make it more shiny, define highlights better and just make the blonde look radiant, more luminous and stunning.
This hairspray comes in a large aerosol spray tin bottle with a clear plastic cap and the packaging is made of gold coloured metal with the instructions and name written on it.
So once you've finished styling and you want to hold your hair into place, just hold the bottle about 10 inches or a bit further away from your hair and spray a tiny amount around the hair. You can always add more if you so wish. Be careful to avoid the skin and eyes especially. I hate the sticky feel of hairspray on my face.
What I like about this hair spray, is that it doesn't feel heavy or sticky, holds my style in place and is easy to wash out afterwards. I also find that my blonde hair looks nicer with this product on it as it adds shine and makes my highlights look brighter and stand out more.
It might be a little bit pricey for some but I defiantly like it and think it's worth giving a try.
London. Paris. New York.
The John Frieda hairstyling products are extremely impressive. In the hairdressing business since he was 16 years old, when he was apprentice hairdresser to the 'stars'. Once married to the songstress Lulu he built his empire on solid foundations of 70's England. Reputably John Frieda has had the biggest impact on the haircare market with his specialist lines for fine hair, frizzy hair, blonde hair, brunette and red hair. Now one of the top renowned hairstylists to the stars in the USA, John Frieda has built his business into a multi million pound empire. -
- SHEER BLONDE ® CRYSTAL HOLD SHAPE AND SHINE SPRAY -
I have been using his specialist products for Blonde hair for quite some time now. I like the range and the fact that are specially designed for blonde hair specifically. The 'Crystal Hold Shimmer and Shine Spray' is designed to keep the blonde tones bright in your hair. So naturally blonde or from a bottle, the John Frieda sheer blonde hold and shine spray will keep your hair in tip top condition. The actual spray Can is about 8 and a half inches high, the canister is finished off in a brushed steel with BLONDE running up the can horizontally. It's a stylish looking product with gold and black lettering to the front of the canister telling us that this is an ultra fine mist, with firm hold, and the content is 250 ml.
The spray contains special properties that will ensure there is no yellowing to the blonde hair, or dulling or darkening. Its kind and mild and specially formulated to give the hair tremendous shine, a layer of crystal clear shimmery shine. The spray is non sticky and non stiff so it will control the hair without giving it the 'cardboard' feel. The mist is fine and light when sprayed upon the hair and it leaves my hair feeling nice and soft but also controlled. It actually has a nice smell without being perfumed, an expensive salon smell, which I really like. It is good for all hair textures even baby fine hair and it will give a flexible hold without any stickiness. The sheer blonde range has built in blonde enhancers with minerals and nourishing proteins to add lustre to the hair.
The shape and shimmer spray lasts me quite a long while as the mist is so fine it doesn't seem to go down very quickly. So it is pretty economical in that respect. When spraying the hair hold the can about 25-30 cm away from the body and spray evenly over the hair for a good coverage. The result is a lovely shine and shimmer to the hair when it catches the light. The spray is to be used on hair that is dried, and after styling to keep the hair in place and to give it the added shine. It is available from Boots for the price of roughly 2.99. Also available from salons and selected chemists. I love the whole John Frieda ' Sheer Blonde' range. It just seems to keep my hair looking really healthy and in excellent condition. 8/10 for performance. -
