Advantages: Easy to use, 1 shade brighter, very soft sliky hair
Disadvantages: Only get a few uses per bottle
My hair is (I think) naturally dark blonde. However, I have been dying it blonde for about 7 years now using different shades of blonde highlights throughout.
I have been using John Freida products for about 3 years now, although I do sometimes switch to another brand as I don't think you get the same effects using the same shampoo all the time.
The one thing I have not stopped using throughout this time is John Frieda's Luminous Glaze. The glaze is available in 5 different shades, 2 of which are for blondes. Platinum/Champagne for those with white blonde hair and Honey/Caramel for those with darker blonde shades.
Although I have used both glazes I find the Platinum/Champagne to be the most effective at really bringing out the blonde in my hair. The Honey/Caramel made my hair look shinier but definately didn't bring out the colour. If you really want to emphasise the blonde in your hair I would recommend going for the lighter shade too.
The glaze comes in a bottle which is contained in a, rather unneccessary to be honest, plastic package. I suppose this is there to make the product look a bit fancier but in these times of recycling is really unneccessary. It does however give the product a more expensive look.
I wouldn't recommend squeezing the bottle to dispense the liquid as it does come out very quickly and a little goes a long way with this!
Application
The liquid does have a rather potent smell to it when you first squirt it out but don't worry as the smell doesn't stay in your hair once you have washed it out. The liquid is a pale colour with a slightly jelly consistancy, although not quite so thick.
The instructtions reccommend leaving the product in your hair for at least 3 minutes. Personally I have found that this has little effect and I leave it on for about 10 minutes - I wouldn't recommend leaving it for a long period of time as this can have a damaging effect on your hair.
To achieve an all over colour it is best to comb the product through your hair, focusing on your roots if you have any as you don't want to be left with dull roots but the rest of your hair to be light and shiny!
I have read that other people complain about how long it takes to wash out and that it has dyed their skin, towels etc. I use this product weekly and have never had this experience personally. The product, for me, washes out very easily - much easier than regular hair dye and definately doesn't leave the mess of dye.
I wouldn't reccommend replacing this product with your conditioner as it's not good for your hair to dye it everyday. I use it after my conditioner and as previously mentioned only use it once or twice a week. Using a deep conditioner once a week is also recommended.
The Results
If you are expecting platinum blonde hair at the end of the process you are sadly mistaken. When your hair is still wet you will notice no difference. However, after drying, hair is around 1 shade lighter and is much shinier and noticeably softer. My friend has slightly lighter blonde hair than me and also uses this product with the same great results.
The bottle does say that you may not notice a visible change in colour until you have used the product around 5 times so don't expect results straight away.
Technical Info
The bottle retails for £6.99 in Boots although John Frieda often has 3 for 2 on their products and this is when I stock up as I think it is a little pricy. Also the bottle contains 190ml but I only get about 4 glazes from it. Admittedly, I do have fairly long and a somewhat thick hair. I'm also rather generous with the amount I use.
I feel the product works best when used with John Frieda platinum/champagne shampoo and conditioner.
Recommend?
I would definately reccommend this product to blondes who want a little boost of colour and smooth, silky hair. Quite a few of my friends also use this product and alll reccommend it too.
The only reason this gets 4/5 from me is because it is a little pricy.
Summary: Great for blondes looking to give their hair a nice shine
