Advantages: does reduce frizz, lightweight, doesn't weigh hair down
Disadvantages: It doesn't stop frizz altogether, some may find pricey
I remember when I first saw the John Frieda Weather Works range advertised in a magazine, I was very excited because it sounded like the sort of product my hair had been crying out for all these years! The idea of the products in this range, is that they will protect your hair from the effects the weather can have on it. There's been many a time, I've spent ages getting ready to go out - styling a de-frizzing my hair - then I'll walk from the front door to the taxi in the rain, and already my style is ruined by the humidity and drizzle.
I've been using Lee Stafford's Dehumidifier spray which is good, but I still wanted to try this range. I headed to Boots to have a look what was on offer, and was disappointed that they only seemed to do a shampoo, conditioner, and sealant crème, as I was hoping for a serum or spray of some sort. I don't usually like to use any crème sort of products on my hair, as I find that they weigh my hair down, and look thick and often dry and become white, making my hair look disgusting!
After reading a few positive reviews on this, I started to change my mind a little, but still didn't buy it, as I wasn't completely convinced it was right for my hair. It was only a couple of months later when Boots had a special offer on to get this for £3.49 rather than the usual £6.49 that I bit the bullet and bought it.
So, what exactly is it? Well the idea is, that you run this through your hair (either wet or towel-dried) and then style however you want. Whatever is in this, is then supposed to protect your hair from 'any weather condition' according to the front of the bottle. I'd like to see it keep my hair looking nice in a gale-force wind, but what I actually think this is referring to, is protecting the hair from humidity, and the frizzing effects of drizzle.
The crème comes in a pale blue-grey bottle with a pump dispenser on the top. The bottle is pleasant enough, but nothing special. It is quite flat though, so won't slip in your hands.
I was expecting this to be like products I've used previously - a thick white cream - but in fact, it's a sort of cloudy white, and is fairly runny, which makes it very easy to apply. It has a surprisingly nice scent to it too -it's very fresh, light and fruity.
It states on the bottle to dispense 1-2 pumps of the crème onto your hands, rub together and then run through your hair. This might be fine for shorter styles, but I have very long, thick hair and need to use quite a bit more. I usually split my hair into three or four sections, and apply 1-2 pumps per section.
This glides through the hair really easily, and isn't thick or heavy as I had expected it to be. I had also thought that this might make my hair look greasy and weighed down, but it didn't - it's practically invisible once on, and you can't tell it's there, and certainly doesn't weigh the hair down at all. It also smoothes down any frizz which is great, as I don't have to use a separate serum with this.
As for protecting from harsh weather conditions? Well it's OK, but I don't think I'd say it was fantastic. It does seem to protect my hair to some extent from humidity, and I've also used it in night clubs where my hair often turns from sleek to scary with the heat, and although it doesn't revert my hair back to its huge frizz ball state, it does start to frizz a little.
As a general day to day product though, this is brilliant. Although it gives a little sheen to my hair, it doesn't give the same gloss you would get from a serum, however I do sometimes use this in place of serum. When I need a lot of hold I do use hairspray over the top of this, as although it will stop your hair frizzing, it will not hold your style in place if you know what I mean.
As I said, the usual price for this is £6.49 and is available from Boots, and the bottle contains 100ml.
Considering how unsure I had been about trying this, I'm glad I did. It's good as an alternative to serum, and is very light-weight, as well as reducing the amount of frizz my hair has. I don't really believe the claims that it will protect your hair in all weather conditions, but it certainly helps, and the bottle lasts ages too. Definitely recommended, I think you will see an improvement, but perhaps not a miracle!
