Advantages: dry, frizzy, tight curls become soft, silky, and manageable without harsh smell, easy pump bottle

Disadvantages: definitely used more than a quarter sized amount, which may or may not be necessary

I'm not sure about about the exact hair texture of the people who wrote these other reviews but I'll come out and say it: I'm African-American and I have nappy hair. It's not "curly", "wavy", or "kinky". It's NAPPY, which means extremely tight curls that are prone to dryness and frizz. It's also very fine and thin and with those super tight curls combing it out without alerting the proper authorities (that is a detangler or lots of conditioner) means breakage central. Poor me, I know! But there is hope and this little bottle has it.

When I was younger I had longer hair but I chemically relaxed it and it became so dry, it just broke off. So sad... I vowed to never relax it again, but over the years I did and I never really felt right about it because it's not good for my hair (maybe for other folks, but not me or my busy lifestyle) I noticed that every time I shampoo and condition my hair that these super cute soft curls form but they disappear as soon as the conditioner goes down the drain. I tried mousse, leave-in conditioners, you name it to recapture that oh so ethnic curl, but my hair would just frizz out and end up looking like an afro, which is not the desired style. I could just let it dry naturally with no work if that's what I wanted, right?

So, after taking my hair out of braids and luxuriously deep conditioning my hair those pretty little curls popped up and I said, "you guys are going to stay for awhile!" I decided NEVER again will I wear a relaxer and I will one day have those cute little curls outside of the shower. I bought this product and followed the directions (which are posted on every other review so I won't bother) and it took my nappy dry hair and softened and smoothed it right up. The curls were so cute and manageable, you'd think I had "some Indian in me" (Black folks know what I am talking about. I actually do, but that's neither here nor there because my hair is still napp-o-licious). It was so easy to just run my fingers through it without break or tangling my hair. So, I'm not sure about the other review where someone said that it left their hair tangled. Hey, everyone's different. I say just use more product. It's only 5.99 USD.

THANK YOU, JOHN FRIEDA! I can wear my hair (more or less) natural without harsh chemical relaxers that thin my hair and keep it from growing. This will help me keep my hair moisturized and conditioned because I don't have to fight the naps with a perm, pressing comb, or an afro pick. I just dampen my hair (the product specifically requires that hair be damp, NOT wet) twist the curls around themselves at night, roll up my hair on bone (perm) rollers, and tie a scarf on at night and I have gorgeous, soft, healthy looking curls in the morning. Everyone loves my new look!

My only criticism is that you don't make giant vats of it! The true test will be whether or not the curls air dry nicely. Will let you know!

Summary: No more relaxers! John Frieda has love for the black girls, too. So you should definitely try it!

I am mixed race with the afro hair and have all the same problems as you. Loved the review, I found it very helpful.
Cheers!
