Advantages: Leaves hair lovely and soft
Disadvantages: None
My daughter religiously has a bath every night which she loves. The whole point of her having a bath before bed is for her to relax and wind down after a busy day - she is a child that is constantly on the go, never sitting down for more than 30 seconds so for me giving her a bath is my way of helping her to relax so she can drift off to the land of nod peacefully.
I do use products that having soothing properties most of the time whether a calming body wash or a bath foam. However, one product I have used along side the other 'relaxing' products is the Johnsons Baby Shampoo with Natural Lavender. I love the fragrance of lavender and I myself find it soothing and as I had been using the Johnsons original shampoo I thought the lavender variety would be worth a try.
== The Shampoo ==
Johnson's is a brand that has been used by parents for over 100 years and I find that their products are incredibly good quality and I am quite happy to use them on my daughter. The Johnson's Baby Shampoo with Natural Lavender has been specifically designed to be a soothing and relaxing shampoo purely because it contains lavender extract which is well known for it's calming properties.
The shampoo itself features Johnson's NO MORE TEARS® formula which is of course incredibly gentle on the eyes should a few bubbles get in the eyes. It is ophthalmologist tested so no damage will come of a few stray bubbles and is completely safe. The shampoo has not only been designed to calm and relax but to also leave the hair "babysoft".
== Packaging ==
The shampoo itself comes in a slightly oval shaped lilac plastic bottle together with a lilac plastic flip top cap. All the Johnson's shampoos seem to come in these oval shaped transparent bottles the difference being the colour of the bottle depending on which range it comes from. The front of the bottle features the Johnson's and No More Tears logo together with the product name as well as an image of a lavender sprig which is quite fitting. One the back of the bottle there is instructions as to how to use it, information about the shampoo together with the ingredients list and contact information for Johnson's.
== In Use ==
The shampoo itself is transparent and is a very pale lilac colour which is lovely and has a typical Johnson's shampoo consistency which is thinner than an adult shampoo so you can easily waste it by squeezing the bottle too hard so you do need to be gentle with it. The aroma of the shampoo isn't overly like lavender although you can definitely tell it is lavender it isn't strong or overpowering nor is it what I expected but perfectly pleasant as it is nice and subtle.
To use the shampoo you simply massage it onto wet/damp hair and massage it in until you get a nice lather. The shampoo quickly provides a very soft white foam which is nice and you only need to use a really small amount for this to happen. I think using too much would cause far too much foam as well as being difficult to then rinse out. My daughter has curly hair which is down her back and I find about a 10p piece size worth of shampoo is perfectly sufficient.
The shampoo is strong enough to help detangle my daughter's hair before using a conditioner and it is easily rinsed out without causing her too much upset ( she is currently going through a phase where she cannot stand have her hair washed!) without leaving any soap suds behind. Once dry, her hair is beautifully soft and you can clearly see a lovely shine to her blonde curly locks and it manages to stay this way when she wakes up in the morning.
But does it relax and soothe her? As much as I'd love to say it worked wonders and sent her off to sleep incredibly easily it didn't. My daughter was exactly the same as she was when I used her previous shampoo, relaxed yes but certainly not calm! I wasn't expecting this shampoo to wave its magic lavender wand and she would magically drift off so I'm not disappointed that it doesn't really work for my daughter!
== Overall ==
A lovely shampoo with a nice, gentle lavender fragrance which leaves my daughter's hair lovely and soft. So no complaints there at all. However, I find I get the same results with other shampoos and for the price I can't see myself buying it as there are plenty of other cheaper alternatives which do the job just as well. 4 stars from me as knocking a star off simply due to the price and it doesn't really deliver what it promise.
