“ Brand: Johnsons / Type: Hair Shampoo / Subcategory: Spray / Tan / What it does: Tans, „
My little girl, at time of writing is five years old. Her hair is very thick and very long; almost down to her bottom in fact. We do keep her hair regularly trimmed, and she wears it in piggy- plaits at school every day. Her hair gets brushed every day, and washed every two days. So why oh why is it ALWAYS tangly?! My husband and I are always keeping our eyes peeled for new products that claim to 'de- tangle and de- frizz,' and so far have had no luck with anything.
I am a massive fan of Johnson's products, particularly the baby products. I have shelves full of their stuff. Therefore, I thought their de- tangling sprays would be as good as everything else. WRONG!!!
I was initially attracted by the pink packaging and the fact that it was only £1.50 (ish). This spray comes in Original, Tropical and Strawberry; I purchased the strawberry one and it smells good enough to eat. I applied it to my daughter's towel dried hair and let it soak in for a while. I then decided to try and tackle the mountain of tangles. The spray hadn't worked. Her hair was just as tangly as before, and had made no difference to the texture of her hair. The only thing it did do was make her hair smell really nice; but her shampoo and conditioner does that anyway.
Sorry Johnson's; another tried and tested 'de- tangling' formula that just doesn't cut it.
My daughter has rather flyaway curly hair that tangles easily on top and matts at the neck if left untamed. She also has sensitive skin on her face and in her hair so alot of shampoo and conditioner products are just too heavy for her skin and cause her irritation to scalp and face.
As a rule I am prone to not rush out and buy Johnsons products as I have often found them too astringent when the children were very young, but they seem to work better on both my children as they have got over 2/3 years old. I purchased the No more Tear No More Tangles product from our local boots for approx £1.69, I have paid a little more and a little less since then for additional bottles. You get 200ml of product in an easy to hold and dispense pump bottle. I purchasd the original fragranced product (the key Jonhsons baby smell) but it can also be purchases in Strawberry and Tropical fragrance.
I apply from root to end of towel dried hair and then brush through to dispurse throughout the hair shafts using a comb. It leaves the hair feeling wetter than before application but this is what you expect from this kind of conditioning product so it really isnt an issue in my eyes. After application you can quite easily comb through the hair and remove tangles and clumps with ease and absolutely no distress to the child. Its as easy as that!
The hair dries beautifully soft without aggravating fly awayness and at no time has it caused irritation to either skin or scalp since we started using this. It is an absolute essential if we go swimming or to the beach and has saved many a tear and tantrum in those instances.
With regular applications every other day a bottle of this last me about 3-4 months, so again, well worth the money paid. It also doubles up as a handy leave in conditioner when I run out of mine too!!
I'm reviewing the baby version of this, it's slightly different. The version I have comes in a blue-green bottle and uses the same 'No More Tears' formula as their popular baby bath and shampoo range.
The ingredients are:
Water, Behentrimonium methosulfate, sodium benzoate, dimethicone, hydroxyethyl behenamidopropyl dimonium chloride, polyorbate 20, cetearyl alcohol, trisiloxane, citric acid, fragrance, ceteth-10, laureth-4
My daughter has fine, curly hair. If I leave it, it mats very quickly and is a nightmare to detangle. If I comb it with no spray, I comb out the curls. Someone recommended this spray and I thought I'd give it a go.
How to use: you can either spray it on after washing, and comb wet, or spray it on dry hair and comb out. There is no need to rinse. The spray is easy to use, you only need a light spray. It smells pleasant to me, but not like baby shampoo. Obviously, that could be a problem to someone with perfume intolerances.
Once sprayed, the hair is smooth and easy to comb. Sometimes I still come up against a tangle, but it's not a problem. No More Tears is meant to mean that if the product gets in eyes, it doesn't sting... for us, it means that combing hair is no longer painful, and so no more tears.
The spray goes on damp, and takes about 10 minutes to dry, more in damp weather. During that time, it looks like I've just washed my daughter's hair. After that, though, her hair bounces back into lovely soft, shiny ringlets.
My daughter loves having long hair, and always wants to wear it loose, which is all well and good untill it comes to brushing it!!
I do use the no more tangles conditioner when i wash her hair, but for the times when i just want to brush it and go, the easy comb spray is fab.
I buy it from my local boots for about £1.40, the conditioner is around about the same price!
I do use quite a lot of it as her hair is very thick as well as long, so it does leave the hair very wet, but there are no tears or tantrums!.... hoorah!!!
