Advantages: Smells lovely, lathers up well
Disadvantages: None for us
I am still gradually working my way through all of the various shower gels, shampoos etc that I received for Jayden when he was born. One of the items we have recently been using is the Johnson's Baby Shampoo, I have used several different Johnson's products on Jayden and have always been pleased with them so was sure that the shampoo would be of the same quality as the others.
Packaging
The Johnson's Baby Shampoo comes in a clear plastic bottle allowing you to see the colour of the shampoo inside, it has a yellow plastic flip lid on top which clicks shut to prevent leaking.
There is a clear plastic label on the front of the bottle giving the impression that the information is printed direct onto the bottle itself, this includes the name of the product "Johnson's Baby Shampoo" written in white writing and the Johnson and Johnson's brand name at the bottom again in white along with the bottle size. Right at the top of the label is a small pink tear shape with the words "no more tears" written inside in white. On the back of the bottle is a yellow tear shaped label containing further product information, this is written in white writing and to be honest is quite difficult to read against the yellow background, I found you had to get it in just the right light before you could see what it said. This information includes facts about the shampoo, the ingredients, directions for use and warnings.
The Shampoo
Johnson's Baby Shampoo is a light transparent yellow colour, it is of an average consistency, personally I think it is a little runnier than adult shampoo but this makes lathering it up easier. This product has a lovely delicate fragrance to it, Johnson's describe it as their "unique baby fresh smell" personally I think it has a slight floral scent to it, it is a very light fragrance but is just enough to last and leave your babies hairs smelling clean and fresh. Johnson's Baby Shampoo is also made with their no more tears formula which is described as being as gentle on your baby's eyes as pure water, obviously it is not a good idea to get the product into your baby's eyes, however this has happened to Jayden on more than one occasion, he loves his bath and gets very excited splashing and round making washing him a bit tricky so on occasions the shampoo does run into his face and eyes when rinsing it, but not once has it irritated them or made him cry so personally I have found it to be very gentle, this product is also ophthalmologist tested.
Directions for Use
Using the shampoo is very easy and is used in exactly the same way as you would shampoo your own hair, you simply pour a small amount into your hands, lather into your baby's hair and then rinse. I have found that you really do only need a small amount of this product, Jayden doesn't really have a lot of hair at the moment but the shampoo lathers up so much that a tiny amount is plenty even for a baby with more hair.
Warnings
The only warnings that appear on the back of the Johnson's Baby Shampoo bottle state that you should keep it out of reach of children and that it is for external use only this is pretty standard for this type of product, it does not mention avoiding contact with eyes as you would expect due to the no more tears formula.
Price and Availability
Johnson's Baby Shampoo is available from most places that have a baby section including Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets, as I have mentioned ours came in a hamper which was a gift when Jayden was born, and the other bottle we had came in a gift basket that my parents bought him as part of his Christmas present, however I have seen this product in our local Tesco and discovered that it comes in three different sizes
* 100ml - 95p
* 300ml - £1.50
* 500ml - £3.20 (currently on offer for £1.50)
Personally I think all sizes are fairly priced as the product is very long lasting so you definitely get your moneys worth. We have a 300ml bottle and have only just finished it, we started using it several weeks ago and have used it everyday, you need such a small amount that it really does last a long time making it very economical.
My Opinion
As I have said we have used Johnson's Baby Shampoo for several weeks now and have been extremely pleased with it, not only is it reasonably priced and long lasting it also leaves Jayden's hair clean and fresh, after washing his hair with this it smells lovely, the fragrance is light and delicate but really does smell as a baby should, the fragrance is also long lasting and I can still smell it on his hair in the morning, after using this shampoo his hair is also extremely soft to touch, his hair isn't long enough to need brushing or anything yet but it does leave his hair in good condition.
The shampoo is easy to lather and quick to rinse off so ideal for babies who do not really enjoy bath time, or like Jayden who loves bath time and hasn't got time to sit and have his hair washed, this product allows me to do it quickly for him so that he can carry on playing. It is also gentle on your baby and the no more tears formula is ideal. I would highly recommend this product to anyone and would definitely use it again.
Summary: A nice gentle shampoo for my baby
