It may not be dandruff... (Joico Biojoba Shampoo)

I have had dandruff for as long as I can remember - well, at least I thought I did.

Having tried every type of dandruff shampoo that I could find at the supermarket and failing to get rid of the dandruff, I decided enough was enough (when I was 18) and that I would spend some extra money and get a shampoo sold in one of those professional shops.

So I walk in to the one at the local shopping centre (this is back in OZ by the way) and ask for a anti-dandruff shampoo, but a good one! Not one of those in the supermarket, tried all of them, they don't work.

"Are you sure you have dandruff?" asks a very unfriendly shop assistant (which is very rare in OZ - unfriendly shop assistants that is!).

"Of course I am! What else can it be?"

"Well, maybe you just have a dry scalp and you are making things worse by using anti-dandruff shampoo."

Uh huh! Never thought about that one before. Maybe this woman is right, "So, what do you suggest?"

"Try this, Joico Biojoba"

"Bio what?" anyway, at $11 (AU) it was about 4 times more expensive than all the other shampoos from the supermarket, but then those hadn't worked. So, I decided to give it a try.

Here is what it's all about...

Apparently, and this comes straight from the back of the bottle, Joico products (and there is quite a lot in the range) contain something called the Triamine Complex which contains amino acids and is supposed to "nourish, rebuild and protect hair".

Joico make everything from hairgel to perm products. They also claim that none of their products are tested on animals. Hence no guilty conciense there either.

Biojoba apparently contains aloe as well. And don't ask me why, but it works! I am not sure whether it's the Triamine Complex, or whether it is something else, but it works.

I use it on a daily basis and
don't need to use conditioner afterwards (that also amazes me... most shampoos leave your hair feeling like garden weed!!!)

I have not had dandruff/dry scalp since I started using this product. I sometimes stop and use Pantene or something, then the dry scalp problem returns within 2 weeks.

Biojoba is also supposed to repair chemically damaged hair, but since I do not color my hair, I haven't had an opportunity to test this (I'll watch movies for dooyoo opinions, but I ain't damaging my hair on purpose! :-))

Also, there doesn't seem to be any type of smell to the product. I mean it is not perfumed, so unlike some other professional hair products which are aimed at women only and are scented as such, you don't smell feminine if you use it!

Now, note that I mentioned I bought this from OZ. Unfortunately it is not that common in Europe, so whenever I have found it, it has been way too expensive.

Here is a price comparescent, 250ml in UK costs about £10 (I haven't bought one for a year now so that might have changed), in OZ a 1 litre bottle costs $43 (AU), about £17. So I buy a couple of 1 litre bottles from OZ when I'm there on holiday and bring them back to the UK.

Since I have short hair, a 250ml bottle lasts me about 3 months, you really don't need to use much.

It is very good quality shampoo and I totally recommend it.
