Kerastase Resistance Ciment Thermique
Advantages: This product imparts a sleek and straight look.
Regular readers of my reviews will know that I spend a lot of time in windy places and in particular on the Western Isles of Scotland where gusty days are very common. In fact I was recently storm bound there over the New Year, and there were times when just getting into the car was a challenge! Hair is a major issue on these islands especially if like myself you have naturally coarse and frizzy locks. Over the years I have collected several products that really work in these conditions, but the beauty is that if they work there then you can be sure they will work in less extreme environments. I thought I would devote the early part of this year on Dooyoo to talking about some of my favourites so here is the first- Kerastase Ciment Thermique.
About The Product
This product is a leave in cream that you apply to towel dried hair, and it is designed to work in conjunction with heat to protect hair and to seal in moisture facilitating smooth locks that are easy to manage. It is a reconstructing milk that strengthens the hair so is especially suitable for heat treated and coloured or bleached hair that is damaged. It is designed to be applied to mid lengths and the ends of the hair, but you want to avoid the roots as this would promote greasiness which you don't want.
The product is part of the "Resistance" line of products that include shampoos and masks, and all are designed to work together to really improve hair structure so although the product can be used alone with any shampoos and conditioners, I really find that by using the products alongside the other products in the line better results are obtained. However this is not a cheap option and one that I save for my time away and for when my hair is lacking that sleek cared for appearance, rather than opting for everyday use as this would be a substantial cost.
Where To Purchase.
The Ciment Thermique can be purchased online and I would advise you to shop around to make sure that you get the best deal for the product. The places that I advise to look are as follows. Also don't forget all these offer cash-back from sites such as Topcashback.
www.lookfantastic.com currently £15.12 ( free delivery)
www.hqhair.com currently £15.12 ( free delivery)
www.activebeauty.co.uk £14.95 ( free delivery)
This price is for 125ml and as you only need a walnut size amount for long hair, and less for short styles, even with daily use this will last a couple of months at least. The product is supplied in a plastic wide tube and is easy to carry when travelling and a gentle squeeze releases the required amount of product needed to achieve the required results. I think the real expense comes in if you opt to also use the shampoo and masks in the range, as the masks especially are around the £20 mark with the shampoos being just over £10. However they are absolutely fantastic especially the Bain Force Architecte shampoo and Kerastase Masque Force Achitecte combo, which when used together with the Ciment Thermique leave in cream impart a smooth and sleek finish that I haven't been able to obtain to this high degree with any other products.
If you are new to Kerastase it may be helpful to know that they have a numbering system on their products from one to four that can be seen on the front of their products. The higher numbers represent products designed for hair that is more damaged, and the Ciment Thermique is designed to be used for all hair types whereas the shampoo and masque that I like to use with it are both designed for levels 3 and 4 - that is hair that is more damaged. However you can match The Ciment Thermique up with any combo you like as it is not hair type specific, but it does tend to appeal to those who have more damaged hair and those who rely on hair tools on a daily basis as it relies on heat to active it.
My Opinion and Experience.
My hair is shoulder length and coloured and highlighted and is a naturally coarse texture. I think the beauty of this leave in cream is that it coats the hair with a protective layer and after I use my hair dryer and straighteners I am left with smooth and shiny hair. The most amazing thing about this product is that since I discovered it a couple of years ago it has had one amazing benefit. This is that normally after a night's sleep I would wake up to a mop that looked like a witch owned it, but now if I use this product with the others from the range I can actually go two days without washing and styling my hair which is brilliant for me as I suffer from ME and hair care is very tiring. This is because my arms have very little strength in them and it can be a chore to use styling tools for more than a few minutes. This can be a real asset to me on bad days, or on days when I have an early appointment to keep and haven't got enough time to wash and dry my hair beforehand.
I am not keen on leave in products in general because I am so fond of that freshly washed look and feel of newly cleaned hair, but the beauty of this product is that it leaves no greasy residue at all and there is no build up of the product over several washes either. The product has a fresh scent with is very pleasant but not overpowering and does not linger on the hair either.
I think if you are a fan of GHD straighteners, which I am, then this product is going to appeal because it counteracts the damage that may result from daily use with these high temperatures straighteners rely on to achieve sleek straightened hair. I love the finish it gives as not only is it sleek and straight but shiny too, and I have no frizz even when I go out in humid or windy weather. It imparts moisture and is ideal if you have a special occasion to attend - maybe a wedding during inclement weather when you don't want your hair to look untidy if the wind is blowing.
Most of the time I use cheap products on my hair as I think supermarket shampoos and conditioners are of a high quality and I rarely steer towards high end products unless I can see a noticeable difference. I have used this product in conjunction with some of my high street favourites and it still gives excellent results though not quite as good as those achieved with the 3 step method I mentioned. I think that it is an absolutely fantastic asset for holidays in windy or humid places, and also to help in keeping hair in very good condition when daily shampooing and styling is not possible. It's one of my holy grail "special" products that I highly recommend.

Summary: A product that I rate very highly.
