The salon where I get my hair done recommends all things Kerastase. I have tried a few shampoos and other bits and pieces, and so decided to try this product on the recommendation of my hairdresser. I have highlighted blonde hair which is shoulder length and in fairly decent condition. My main concern in the sun is drying out my hair and losing colour. This product is part of the Soleil range which is all in similar red packaging and also comes as shampoo, conditioner and a treatment.
This product costs around £16 in the salon and a little bit less on lookfantastic.com and other online shops. It comes in a red bottle with a protective lid covering a spray mechanism. The spray is good and can be used from any angle. I had no problems with leaking, either in transit or while it was being used. You can easily see how much is left in the bottle at any time and a bottle would easily suffice for daily use on a two week holiday.
The product smells lovely and fresh. It claims to protect hair from sun, sea and chlorinated water and suggests that you can apply it to dry or damp hair. I always put it on my hair when it was damp. I find that while it does protect my hair so that it doesn't dry out, it feels quite tacky on as it dries in over time. When I'm on a beach holiday I tend to reapply it after swimming and throughout the day and by the end, my hair feels in really desperate need of washing. I would prefer it left my hair feeling a little better during use, and as a result I don't use it on land holidays as I don't like to wander around feeling that my hair needs washed! On the plus side, it washes out easily and seems to provide adequate coverage from the sun, sea and chlorine as claimed.
I have given it three stars because it does do what it says on the tin and my main complaint is the way it leaves my hair feeling when it is on.
I decided to treat myself to a bottle of this before going away over the summer. I knew I would be in and out of the sea and in strong sunshine a lot and I wanted to protect my coloured hair as much as I could. This product is meant to have UV defence and stop hair from being damaged by salt water and the spray seemed convenient so I bought it, knowing that Kerastase products have a good reputation.
The bottle itself looks very nice and is a red pump, not a huge size so good for travelling. It sprays a fine mist which has a pretty watermelon-y smell that lingers on your hair. But, I have to say, I really did not like the texture of it and the way it made my hair feel. It seemed to coat my hair and make it feel brittle and straw like. I will admit here that my hair was not in the best possible condition and I was in and out of the sea/sun constantly so maybe it was too much too ask that it made my hair nice and soft!
But I just don't feel that this product helped my hair at all, despite reapplying it throughout the day - my hair colour seemed to get bleached by the sun quicker than it had on past trips, and was incredibly light coloured and damaged by the time I left. I honestly don't think this spray did me any good at all, which is disappointing considering it's not cheap. I left the remains of the bottle behind when I came back! My advice - save your cash and wear a hat...
