I had seen mixed reviews about elnette hairspray in the past and bought it when I saw it on offer to give it a go myself.
I must admit I don't use a lot of hairspray in my hair but just use a little for my flyaways and have experimented with lots of different brands in the past!
The first thing I like is the packaging is sleek on the bottle. I think the spray itself is a little pricey at full price but the bottle does make it look expensive too and not like a budget brand.
When you spray it, it does have a nice smell to it, again justifying the price paid. Cheaper brands tend to have an overly toxic smell which can also be really strong and screams to bystanders 'I'm wearing hairspray!!' With elnette the smell is pleasant and subtle. My hair smells like my shampoo and conditioner, not an overpowering toxic smell when I use it.
It goes into my hair nicely too. I found that some sprays I have used in the past make my hair look like it has been concreted into place or leaves the indents where you have run a brush through your hair. I didn't get any of those things with elnette. It definitely has a firm hold but distributes through hair nicely when you brush it through without leaving the unwanted indentations.
One of the downsides is I do feel you have to add Afew layers of the spray for it to take effect. Just one layer doesn't quite seem to be enough to take hold on the hair but having said that, the bottle still lasts quite a long time so you aren't buying a new bottle too often (which kind of justifies paying a high price).
The last good thing I will say about it is that it doesn't leave a stubborn residue in your hair for the next day or leave your hair brittle and open to extra breakage. Some hairspray a I have used in the past leave horrible residue in your hair that can be sticky and make it really hard to wash your hair. I haven't had that with this spray. It brushes out easily and is like there was nothing in your hair and isn't a horrible sticky texture either. I also found with other sprays that as you brush it out, there's a lot of breakage from your own hair which can be a little concerning for those of us who like to look after our hair the best we can! With elnette not only does it brush out easily, it leaves your hair with a lot of natural movement and bounce so breakage is a lot less likely.
It took me ages to decide on how many hearts to rate this because this little classic that has been nothing short of a hair miracle, on those scary bad hair days and all night dancing parties I trust this won't let me down, even if my dancing does!
This is meant to have that extra hold. Usually, I just hold the nozzle down longer but I thought I would try this.
This aim is to give you that versatile all day hold with extra strength due to hair technology that micro-diffuses the spray as it leaves the can. Who knew?
I will be honest with you, this as per usual does exactly what Elnett always does and very well.
Did it improve the hold? Not for me I really didn't see any extra benefit only that my hair was more sticky and harder to brush at the end of the day.
This was a 75ml for £2.50 on offer in Boots, and its a perfect size to pop into your bag.
Sorry, but I think I'll stick to the original x
WHAT IS IT?
This is hair spray that is made by Elnett. It has got extra strength hold.
The hair spray I have got is in a tin that has got 200ml of hair spray in it, the tin is gold and it has not changed for many years.
WHAT I THINK
I think this hair spray is very good and it holds a style good as long as it is a regular style and not one that needs more than a basic hold. It has got quite a strong smell but the hair spray does not make my hair very wet like alot of hair sprays, I am happy about that because if the hair is made to look too wet I cannot see properly how the style is going to look when it is finished.
The hold I do not think is very much different to Elnetts regular hold and I would not describe it as extra strength.
On the tin it says that the hair spray will disappear when you brush your hair but I do not think that is true and it leaves a little bit of residue in my hair that makes me have to wash it. It does not make my hair sticky or greasy.
You cannot tell when I have used this hair spray because my hair looks natural and moves even though it holds the style.
This hair spray costs about £3 and I think that is value because it is very good hair spray that makes my hair look good and does not give it any bad effects.
5 Dooyoo Hearts.
When looking at all the hairsprays on the shelf in my local Boots I was a bit overwhelmed, there was far too much choice of different brands / holds / sizes. I opted for Elnett as it is a brand I recognised and the gold bottle is easily identifiable. I then opted for 'Extra strength' as opposed to diamond hold, or any of the other options as frankly it sounded exactly like what I was looking for. I need a hairspray to hold my hair in place and extra strength could only be a good thing. I wasn't sure how much I'd end up using it, really I only use it for when I'm going out but I chose the 400ml can as it was better value for money than the smaller sizes. It does mean I can't pop it in my bag when I go out, but I have never been out and thought 'I need a top up of hairspray' so that's not a big deal for me.
The gold can is pressurized and you need to give it a shake before you spray. The product comes out well and gives a good coverage without being thick or heavy. You are supposed to spray from 30cm and in short bursts but I always end up spraying in one long squeeze. For me, this hairspray holds really well and it is so easy to brush out, it doesn't stick all my hair together like some others I've used. I would definitely recommend this.
I bought this hairspray after my hairdresser used it on me.
I honestly believe that smells bring back really strong memories of times and places, and this hairspray does that for me. After going through an awful part of my life, I finally decided to get my life back on track, I had a huge hair overhaul which made me feel wonderful, and then this was sprayed all over me. As such, the scent of this makes me happy!
Also, the fact that my hairdresser uses it must mean that it's a good one!
I bought this 400ml can from Boots and it cost about £6.50 but the can is huge, has lasted a year already and is still going strong. The can isn't exactly portable but you can buy this spray in several different sizes if that bothers you.
The spray comes in a gold can and is quite old fashioned looking. But then it is a good old fashioned product that I am sure my mother used to use when she was my age. So this definitely has stood the test of time.
This spray really does come out in a fine mist, so spraying the whole of your 'do is effortless.
Because of the reasons set out earlier, I am probably biased when it comes to the smell, but this is fragranced nicely I think. Like all hairsprays though, you want to move away from the area after you've sprayed it though - not a great idea to be breathing it in!!
This stuff holds well. It holds me in shape all day at work each day and so for that reason I give this a 5/5.
I would certainly recommend it and will buy it again.
I used to buy this hairspray for styling up-dos and for when I had curled my hair and wanted it to set and stay curled. I would buy the 400ml bottle from Boots, but the price has changed since then and it is now available for £6.60 in Boots. I tend to try out a new hairspray every time I run out, and when I bought this I thought that it was a classic and that I needed to try it.
However, anything I have to say from here on is pretty much negative.
The bottle is rather attractive, gold with black writing and an illustration of a woman with very bouncy hair in bronze. The lid however, is something I have to complain about. First off, it's just plain ugly compared to the bottle. It is white and doesn't even have a cover cap. The shape and design of it is just tacky and ugly, and doesn't really match the rest of the bottle.
The hairspray smells really strange too, its not completely choking or overpowering, and its not the chemicals that are in it making it smell, its the actual scent of it. It is really hard to describe the scent of the hairspray and all I can say is that it doesn't smell like anything normal. It's definitely artificial, and it means you walk around smelling of it too. Some people like it, I understand that, but I have a very sensitive nose and when I don't like a smell, I don't want it on my head for one thing.
The hairspray itself is utter rubbish. It just doesn't work. I used to have a short fringe that had to be kept perfectly in place with hairspray to keep it looking neat, and this did nothing for it except make it greasy when I was in despair and used too much of it.
Not something I will be buying again. Smells strange, has a contradicting bottle and does nothing for hair apart from make it greasy when too much is used.
I love pinning my hair up into various 60s style hairdos and so I need a hairspray that can keep up with this. After seeing the adverts for this products I decided to try it. Here are my thoughts :
This is the standard gold tube with different coloured plastic spray cap that is a a different colour depending on what version of the spray it is. I think his has had the same look since the beginning. The cap on this is one of the plus points it is built in meaning that you don't run the risk of losing a tiny bit of plastic and then all of a sudden it is wasn't.
The metal used is of good quality a doesn't get dented etc.
A lot of these products upset me and give me headaches after I have used them, but I can use an entire bottle of this and it would be ok. This smells of the hairdressers but without the toxic effect.
The extra strength is very sticky initially but within a few minutes this is perfectly dry and has the same light feeling that all elnett hair sprays do. The hold on this is very similar to the diamond strength and it bushes out just as easily but the diamond had a bit more of a shine.
It does not leave hair crispy either and other people have no idea I hairspray in my hair.
This hold me hair all day I have completed an entire beehive with two very carefully placed hair clips before and the spray and it managed 10 hours!
Price and Availability
This is a little more expensive then other products but this is due to the fact it works so well, and its cult. It is is or ally about £4 for the medium size bottle but the more you buy the better value it is. This can be bought from any good chemists or supermarket and you will get so much use of it.
In conclusion this is a great classic that everyone should be using.
